They are basically a two man operation, there's Gerry, who is a walking encyclopedia of all things clutch related, and Paul, who looks like he should be ripping the guts out of a Harley in LA somewhere instead of working in a clutch shop in Belfast. In any case they were able to supply a clutch to fit and were very reasonable about it. My second visit was an emergency when my father left his car into his local mechanic and the clutch supplied by the mechanic was wrong, just what he needed on a Saturday morning, of course the clutch was an oddball item that wasn't in stock, fortunately my hairy namesake took one look at it, told me to "Bugger off for an hour" and when I returned he had refurbished the clutch like new. In short, it's one of those businesses that's a throwback to a previous age, two blokes who know what they are talking about and will take the time for a bit of banter and to make sure you're happy.

The customer hires out space and then is free to use the Motor Gyms tools and equipment to fix up their motorbike or car. The Motor Gym offer membership schemes for renting out the bays and equipment so you can save yourself even more money. The best thing about this place is that if you fancy yourself as a bit of a Phil or Grant Mitchell in their mechanic days you can pop down here and work on your car in relative safety instead of working in your driveway or garage and causing general annoyance to your neighbours. Also if you do not fancy doing the work yourself but like the space and the work the guys at the Motor Gym do then you can pay them to fix your vehicle. The Motor Gym is open 7 days a week and I think is an absolutely amazing idea that is sure to catch on.

And it's a big job to fix. At least £350. So, why didn't they fix it? After phoning me and explaining, they recommended that, if I can persevere until the timing belt needs changed then it would be better to do the two jobs at once. I appreciated their honesty. They could have easily told me it needed sorted right now, and then I'd need a timing belt at another time. I know nothing about cars other than that they cost money!!
