If you are looking for an organization that is committed to serving the needs of the poor, you need look no farther than Street Church. This group of committed Christians faces extreme temperatures below 40 degrees in the winter and above 30 degrees in the summer, yet despite the extreme temperatures and being harassed by Calgary bylaw officers and police officers, they steadfastly serve the homeless four days a week with food, clothing and a Christian message of hope. They have successfully gotten hundreds off of the streets and these individuals are now contributing citizens in our society. They also serve the thousands of working poor that grace our streets. Some of the people they serve are banned for life from entering homeless shelters, so without the help of the Street Church, they would literally starve. I have looked at their organization in an in depth fashion and am convinced that they are all that stands between life and death for some of Calgary's homeless population.
