There are a couple of open farms around Belfast but what sets this one apart for me is the fact that they produce their very own ice cream from their very own cows. How cool is that? The grass grows, the cows eat the grass, the cows make milk and the clever people at Streamvale make ice cream from the milk. You can even watch them making it. Of course the bet bit is eating the ice cream which is lush. The rest of the farm is well worth a visit, with all the usual farm type animals - horses, sheep, goats , ducks and chickens. When there are lambs on the farm, kids can even give them a bottle feed of milk which they love. The kids that is. Although I suppose the lambs love it too. Kids can also have a pony ride, feed the chickens and enjoy the slide through the hay bales. At Christmas, Streamvale is just magical - an elf tells a Christmas story and then you take a tractor ride up to the top field to see the herd of reindeer which live at Streamvale. After the kids have fed the reindeer, you then walk back down to the farm by torchlight singing Jingle Bells. Truly enchanted for kids big and small. Spring has sprung, summer's in the air, but wait...my little cuckoo has grown up and left the nest for college. That's why I borrowed my nephews to go to our fav farm for a day out. Streamvale is dead easy to get to (behind the Dundonald Ice Bowl) and ticks all the boxes for a family trip. Nature walks, baby animals, big animals, petting and cuddle-time...everything that's fun and informative about animals and farming. For the parents there's a tea room and toilets (again, I seem to have a toilet obsession going on, but when a 5 year old says 'toilet', you jump to it!). Streamvale has seasonal events too - and a great up-to-date website. And to finish mums off, there's insects and a Mouse Farm-bleuch! But on the plus side: Grandparents go free in May (god forbid you should want to spend time away from your precious little ones, but Victoria Square is surely a 'me-time' destination?!!!) read more

Took the better half here for her birthday and we had a blast. We came at the end of the day, which was just about the right time because we didn't have to worry about all the little rugrats interrupting our fun. Come on - old people like animals, too! The only bad part about going that late is that by the time we were done, I was really hankering for a Streamvale Open Farm ice cream and, sadly, the cafe was closed. I could only look on in disappointment as the little kids who were lucky enough to get a Streamvale Open Farm ice cream cone eat theirs. In addition to all the animals, they have rides - a tractor ride in what looks like old oil barrels, and pony rides for the little ones. We took a little time out to wander around on the hiking trails that lead through different parts of the farm. I like the bunnies. They were pretty rocking. And they also had a cage full of Guinea pigs which were actually really noisy. I had no idea they caused such a racket. read more

Another Saturday and time for another little daytrip out. Continuing with my penchant for visiting places I used to go to when I was small, we decided to take a trip to Streamvale Open Farm. This is a proper little working farm, with a gorgeous woodland walk, and on the sunny August day we went, it was a perfect way to spend a few hours. They have all the animals you would expect to see on a farm, hens, chicks, goats, cows, ponies, and a few enormous pigs - not to mention some other animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and a huge houseful of mice (avoid if scared!) They also give you free cups of corn to feed the chickens. There is a huge barn where you can go in to see the animals up close, and the little ones can hold the rabbits and guinea pigs. They do pony rides and have a barn with a straw bounce (slides) and you can see a proper milking parlour in operation. Last but not least, they have a little cafe where you can grab some lunch, and sample some of their home made ice cream, or do what we did and get a tub to take home! read more

Wonderful location for a kids party. Especially for little toddlers. We brought our own food but got tea and coffee from the cafe. The guided tour was great idea and the bucket tractor ride went down a storm. read more

This is a must-do for all familes. It is a perfect school holiday treat, especially if you arrive at feeding time. Some of the animals which are fed by bottle - goats mainly - can be fed by kids or parents and this is a one-off for most kids. There are lovely chick barns where you are lift and pet the baby chicks who are strengthening themselves under a warm lamp, and there are barns with slides into haystacks for children. This open farm is a real treasure in the outskirts of Belfast and is well worth the trip. There are also fruit picking fields where you can fill a punnet and pay per pound/kg for the fruit you have picked yourself. Streamvale is a really memorable experience. read more

Really nice farm for children to visit. Lots of animals to see and touch, chicks etc. Feeding time is good fun, children get to hold the animals and help feed the lambs etc Tractor rides to see round the farm. For those with children 'Mr Tumble' visited here fora 'something special' episode. Nice cafe but also a enclosed picnic area. Lovely summer day out. read more

This is a great place to take the family with loads of different animals to see and activities taking place. Recommend trying the tractor ride and sampling the home made ice cream. It is also a venue for kids parties which I have heard are very good. read more

love it here would pick here over the zoo any day as u get to interact with the animals here and it is well worth a visit in the spring/summer when the babies have arrived as u can feed the lambs and the kids and hold the tiny fluffy chicks,ducklings and rabbits.the goats and kids have always been a firm favourite of mine as is the little black pig. read more
