I have never known anyone who got a paying job through the American University Career Center. The Professors I had were also useless. Many of them teach directly from antiquated text books. They do not teach you any technology of any kind and they never taught us any programs that you would need to know for employment purposes. You take an Economics class and they do not teach you how to use econometric software programs. Their curriculum is something out of the 1960s. This school has had several large scandals over the years with school Presidents. Google Richard Berendzen and you can read about his disgusting behavior. The school would not fire him. He was allowed to keep his job as a professor at the school. Also Google Benjamin Ladner. He was another school President.

She fell in love with this college right away. My son got excepted into the SIS program, school of international study. My daughter will major in psychology. She started school at 4 and was reading at 3.She is still unsure of her law degree she also wants to get but she has plenty of time. I'm so proud that next year I'll have two kids in the same prestigious college with tons of history.

A major I never aquire, because I got burned out. I tried two different to continue my education ang graduate from college, but I guess as of now...2019...its not likely to happen. Let's take a step back and I will tell you what happened with me over the years at Montgomery College. In 1996-1997 I was attending Marshall University. Yeah, the same University where the movie We Are Marshall was filmed. I had come to Montgomery College to repair my grade point average. At Marshall the College life had gotten good, but I wasn't prefirming well in all of my classes. History is just one example. The teacher...no...professor, had her whole class sign in using one's social security number as way of attendance. I put my name down instead of my social security number. What the hell kind of system is that? Off topic for a moment. I once applied to work at a Fed Ex in Rockville. It was a group interview and at the end of the group interview they had people put their social security number down on paper. The paper was passed all the way down to me. I put my name down and passed it on. A few others followed my lead. Needless to say, we weren't hired, had a list of social security numbers in my head,....but I digress. I saw every student get 20 to 30 pages of reading every night. If you fell behind you were shit out of luck. The game of catch up was a very popular game in her class. I did what I could, but failed and ended up dropping her class. I ended up dropping a four hour algebra class that met twice a week too. Needless to say, I need my GPA at a higher level and once I enrolled in Montgomery College, I kicked some major ass. I had a new game plan and I liked the size of these college. The campus was pretty much all in one place without having to travel long distances to get to classes. Upon regestiering, I saw the line seemed pretty long, but it moved fairly quickly. It was then I notice a sign with a picture on the wall. The sign said "And you think you have it bad." The picture showed lines of students out of the building going all the way towards the security office and beyond. Now adays there should be a line since online enrollment is the new way to do things. Paying for books was expensive and the return of unwanted books was highway robbery. This is the way colleges are and this is not going to change. Now if you didn't know, there are three Montgomery Colleges. In no particular order, Rockville Montgomery College, Germantown and Takoma/Silver Spring campuses. Since I now lived in the Rockville area, I sometimes walked, drove or took the bus depending on my mood. This is a day/night campus, but you didn't live on campus like other colleges do. During the Spring semester of 97, I took several classes to help get my grade point average up. By the end of it all, there I got ready to take a test where if you don't pass, you don't pass the class. I believe they called it the competency exam. I had A's in the class, but failed the test. I appealed their fail grade, but lost. I was bummed out, but knew I could pass on the next try. I was taking classes that were beyond the normal, but it helped me out a great deal later on. Yeah, once I got over taking English 001 and 002 I learned a great deal and more importantly, had fun. Between classes after finishing homework, I stumbled upon an arcade inside the Student Center. I don't know if the students center still has this arcade and pool, but it was a way to unwind. I believe there was a small copy center there too...I may be have been something else though. I noticed the last time I was in Maryland, Montgomery College has been broadcasting the school's mascot. A large Raven and the Color of Montgomery seems to be my favorite color purple. When I went to this school, I never saw much of the mascot or the new colored clothing. Guess not enough merchandise is being sold and Montgomery College is trying to change that with better clothes. I will check this out for myself next week. This is one of three Montgomery College campuses and is the one I've personally spent the most time taking classes over my tenure, which has been far from linear. There is parking that surrounds the circular campus, mostly lots, but there is a garage as well. The facilities are fairly nice and it's my preferred campus with Germantown taking a close second. There are busses that run through the campus all day and into the evening.

I was expecting the campus to be nicer considering all the celebrity alumni and major donors. Not sure of the internal resources for students but the campus needs a little updating. I know some will disagree, but they can/should do better. It's of course a historical reference for African Americans a proud HBCU. I can only imagine the clout of celebrities that walk the campus, my hope is that a wealth of knowledge is shared along with donor dollars. We met some friendly staff whom gave us the overall impression of the campus and having the college in the city adds to the experience. Check it out!

Visited Intellectual Point to sit for a certification exam. I chose this location because of its…read moreproximity to my home and free parking. Everything was done by the book, lockers were provided as well as water. The testing room itself is comfortable. Unfortunately there was a small problem - the proctor didn't remember the username and password required to start the exam. It took 20+ minutes to get the exam loaded. In the end the employee apologized and it really wasn't a big deal to me. However during this time another person was having problems starting his exam and the proctor kept going in and out of the room to call someone for help. I felt really bad for the two other people testing in the room because I'm sure all of this commotion was distracting to them. The facility does provide headphones that could help with the sound but I'm a slight germaphobe.

Consider this a review of the building, not of the UCDC program itself (5 stars btw). The building…read morefirst opened a week after 9/11 (i believe) and probably hasn't gone through any major renovations since. It's decent as far as student residential buildings go, but it does have it's fair share of setbacks. 1) Internet sucks. All the rumors about the slow internet are true. If you live above level 3, you can't even load youtube videos from your room. 2) Gym sucks. 2 treadmills, an elliptical, some weights and a few other machines. If you really want to exercise, you're better off going to the YMCA or running around the (national) mall. 3) There's a $20 guest fee and you have to submit a roommate guest agreement form 24 hours in advance. Some other general things to keep in mind: A) You do have to show your building ID to security every time you enter the building, but there's no curfew, so you can stay out as late as you want. B) As of May 2011, the building installed new laundry machines, but they're a lot smaller than what you expect and it costs $1.25 per cycle. C) Anytime the program says that it's going to serve dinner, it's going to be pizza, except the farewell banquet (which is catered). D) Since January 2010, there a 5 cent tax on plastic bags, so if you really want to save $$, bring recyclable bags whenever you go shopping. E) While you're here, definitely plan at least one trip to another city along the East Coast. The prices are much cheaper if you plan early and if you check Megabus or Bolt Bus frequently enough you might find $1 bus deals on different days at certain hours.

Since I was locked in this building during the Blizzard of 2010, I figure it's about time to review…read morethe place I've called home for the past two months. Let me bust out some tips and advice about UCDC: 1) Kitchenware SUCKS. BYO--dish towels, wine corkscrew, cheese grater, knife (the ones they supply will not cut through anything), skillet (anything you cook in theirs will stick despite anything you do) and bakeware. If cooking matters to you, come prepared or purchase these things while you're here. It will make all the difference. 2) Ship your comforter/blanket/pillow and as many things as you can. It was the best decision I ever made. 3) Don't take any extra classes if you don't need them. Spend your time exploring DC and soaking up your internship. Think about it. Do you really want to spent three hours in a classroom after working all day? Since I'm not taking any electives, you can find me at the Beacon while my housemates are in History of Bureaucracy. Happy hour or class? Your call. 4) The Beacon Bar and Grill will be your biggest comfort, being that it's right across the street. Go for happy hour and order the $5 calamari plate. You won't regret it. Unless you eat the whole thing by yourself, then you'll feel pretty gross. 5) Pick an internship close to the Center. My commute is a five minute walk down Rhode Island and my housemates all work within a quarter-mile radius. The neighborhood is home to many nonprofits, agencies, and businesses so there's plenty to choose from. Most importantly, you'll increase your savings and slumber if you choose an internship close by.
