We are so thankful for this BRAND NEW state park that just opened up in TX!…read more My husband secured us a spot online during their first opening weekend (through their official website) since they were limiting guests on the trails in the beginning. You make a reservation online or calling the park! Amenities: The bathrooms in the Welcome Center were very clean. Trails: The trail along Tucker Lake. It was a moderate trail with some climb and descend, but it was not intense. The trail was beautifully kept, and there weren't a lot of hikers at the time we went because they were limiting hikers to just reservations at the time.

I know that this has been a long time project in the making and it has finally opened. This park…read moreis the first state park in several decades and sits on some old land that I was told used be owned by a very wealthy individual. The old foundations and landscaping tiers are still visible along the lake trail that has picnic tables along the trail. There are trails a plenty in this park, many that lead for several miles and it is very horse friendly. It is a very steep hill to the top but it is paved and traverses easily with an RV or camper in tow. There are equestrian campsites at the base level, the same level as headquarters, and they sit at the base of the dam that holds the lake in. Tho from here the lake is not visible, but a short walk along the right side of the dam along an access road and it becomes accessible by foot or horse. Going up the hill you see some good views of the valley and canyon, there is a train line that runs along the north end and winds through the western valley between the peaks of the hills and mountains. At the top there is a four way stop. Go straight and you go down a steep hill to the lake. To the right is a the Pavillion and day use area, a walk in camp site area, and the trailhead area. To the left is the RV and camper parking with full hookups. The lake area is very pretty. I believe it was said it's a 90 acre lake, no motors are allowed but it believe electric motors are. This lake has been untouched for 11 years and has also been stocked several times during those years. It's a 5 fish limit consisting of any fish but only ONE can be a large mouth bass. This was per the park ranger on site. Parking is tiered in 3 areas, boat slip is long, there is an also a floating dock to launch canoes and kayaks, with a special slip for handicap access. The trail that leads to the location of the original home (house is gone) has several picnic tables with grills and have some really good views. There is a fish station to clean, scale, or do whatever needed to the fish that are caught. The RV/Camper section on the top of the hill has concrete parking with concrete padded shelters, fire ring, lantern pole, and the tent area is lined with boulders/rocks and filled with DG, meaning no dirt to track inside your tent should you choose to be in a tent. Day use areas have shelters with tables and grills, there is one large pavilion with a large fire ring for sitting, a fireplace, large overhead fans, and even wi-fi. Yes, they do have wifi, use it, cell service is VERY limited here. Trails are all over the place, the long walks in the woods is best access at the southern most location, or trailhead. Again, friendly to horse, just be aware that there are rattlesnakes, wild boar, coyotes, and the larger version of wild cats in the area (bob cats for sure). This is a great looking area, camping is really nice. It's rugged yet very organized looking. It's a great place to visit.

I was part of a corporate outing where we spent 2 days and 1 night at the Castle and lodge property…read morewhich included the skeet course and a tour of the property and hunting / animal preserve acreage. The first thing that was apparent here was the employee and staff pride and attention to detail for our group of guests. The food was fantastic - easily 4-5 stars and varied from tender filets, chicken-fried steaks and homemade desserts. The property is beautiful, high on the hill overlooking the gaming average below. The main clubhouse with pool, hot tub and gaming rooms is modern and comfortable - a great place to relax with your group of friends or co-workers. I felt the rooms, beds and accomodations were first rate & the conference room large and adequate for our needs. We spent time on the skeet-course and had a blast riding in the oversized carts and trying our skills at the wide variety of shooting stations placed across the skeet course Great visit and a great spot for a team meeting!

The owner and staff were friendly and the party package was way more reasonable that the other bowling alleys around in the other cities nearby. The bowling league was sweet next to us, and politely gave the boys tips to improve their game. It is a classic alley without any pomp and circumstance. Just good, traditional bowling fun. Bowlers bringing their own equipment should know about our experience…read more Our bowling ball sustained extensive gouging while we were bowling here, as shown in the attached photo. The staff mechanic dismissed it as "normal lane wear" and pointed to a sign stating they were not responsible for damaged bowling balls. In my opinion, the damage pictured goes well beyond reasonable wear from normal bowling. The manager eventually agreed to replace the ball, which we appreciated, and suggested having it drilled elsewhere. However, when we went to collect the replacement, the pro shop refused to release it unless we surrendered the damaged ball. We explained that the shop drilling the replacement would need the original to copy its layout. Staff suggested taking a picture and would not release the new ball otherwise. What should have been a straightforward effort to resolve the damage became a three-way disagreement between us, the bowling alley, and its pro shop. At this point, the replacement simply is not worth the aggravation. They can keep the new ball. We will purchase our own replacement and will not return to this venue. If you plan to bowl here with your own equipment, I strongly suggest photographing its condition beforehand and getting a clear explanation of how damage claims, replacement, and drilling costs are handled. Based on our experience, getting a problem resolved can be more frustrating than the damage itself.

It seems to be maintained by volunteers only, so some of the paths are a little overgrown (watch out for thorn bushes), but we still had so much fun and it's honestly just very cool to walk through this old zoo from the 1920s - 1930s! While you're on your way out here, make sure to read the history of why the zoo closed down (mystery!) and take a picture of the map at the entrance to help you on your mission to find the various animal medallions. I hope you have better luck than we did, but maybe we'll be able to come back and find more! There are bathrooms, a playground, and a decent amount of parking. You can also get a nice view of the dam and the lake while you're here, just make sure not to cross the boundary into private property, according to some tips I read online they're kind of sensitive about it but we didn't experience any issues on our visit!
