This review is a result of visiting this church for over a year. We have not decided to make this…read moreour home, but we've served in various ministries, and we've been praying for a Godly, bible believing church to plant ourselves. We feel the pastor has given inspirational and (more importantly) bible-based messages. We love the focus on missions. We've been fed in many ways and keep coming back. The people have been kind...for the most part. We know God is the ultimate judge and we are not. However, something saddens me about this ministry. It may not be a measure of the spiritual temperature of this church body but it means something to me. The worship time is important and I'm not a fan of some songs...others I like. This is not a big deal but some can be shallow...spiritual chants...simple songs repeating the same lines over and over. This seems likes what the world's music sounds like...marketing music to the masses. More concerning is that one Sunday (when the pastor was away) the worship got creepy. The monitors displayed hell fire and they were mostly black and red...wanted to leave but we brought a guest. The music was so loud that I couldn't hear anyone around me and it felt more like a rock concert than a Christ honoring worship service. Fortunately, the substitute pastors was a compliment to Pastor Jeremy's biblical teaching. This was a blessing. In addition, when our family is asked to attend a "Catholic" church (while visiting our in-laws), we notice that women and men (in leadership) dress modestly...not in skintight, hole filled jeans. The church leaders look socially relevant (with the latest style) and yet they don't distract from the service. Holes in jeans or jeans fitting so tightly that the zipper is holding on for dear life might distract some people. The Morman's and JW's look more respectful when they come to our door. I know it's not about how someone dresses. But we are talking about leaders of the church service. This is sad for me to say. Is it too much for true Christians and the leaders to dress as they might be attending a nice dinner...one that is God honoring? Can tight fitting attire be distracting? If this is all a person has to wear then I understand fully. But I doubt this is the case in Kingwood, TX. I only know that when it's my family's turn to bring our in-laws to this church (upon their visit), I will be hoping that church/song leaders will not look like they took a detour to come to church...while in the midst of cleaning out their garage. I know that my in-laws might find this distracting and compare it to their own church. We pray that we can expose unbelievers to the gospel message without needless distractions...stumbling blocks. Maybe I'm more concerned than I should be. But why take the chance when this possible distraction is easily avoidable? I don't claim to know what's inside the heart of any leaders...only what can be seen on the outside. We know it can be deceiving. But please consider how a person of God might dress, might influence the youth or appear to the unsaved world. I have taken time to listen to what some unbelievers say about Christians. You can ask people at the grocery store, work, gym or the park. Some will call Christians a hypocrite and say they look and act no different from the world. What's the first thing they see? Should not our desire be to honor God in all our ways? Thankfully, God gives guidance regarding His dress code... "...likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel (looking like women), with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness--with good works." (1 Timothy 2:8-10b) Perhaps Christians take the prohibition on costly attire to the extreme and this is how the grunge, distressed, tight fitting clothing look has crept into the church? I can only guess why there is no longer a desire to do our best in all things...as we represent our Lord and Savior to a lost world.

ESL classes upstairs for beginners Monday and Wednesday, and more advance on Wednesday and Friday…read more(all in the mornings 9-11). Pretty big classes. In the advance class they read books. They'll have parties too on the holidays.

This church does a lot of good in the community, offers a tremendous amount of outreach programs,…read moreand they pride themselves on being volunteers at every level. However when I say pride- well, I mean exactly that. As in LOTS of pride: as in too much pride, and it really hurts the church. Let me also take the time to mention that there are many good-hearted and kind people there who are members-but this is mostly by default. I say this, because if you are a Methodist, then there are only 2 choices in larger congregation Methodist Churches in Kingwood, and lately both have had their separate issues (but sadly, both have been almost equal in their divisiveness, this along with a few other very different, but let's just say, separate but equal issues!) So that being said, sadly, (and this is after attending there for several years), a lot of the members at KW United Methodist can also be incredibly judgmental, petty, arrogant and as mentioned: divisive. And if you don't volunteer your time, and pretty much everything else that you have, then they tend to judge you, because they all seem to be working very hard at trying to "outdo" each other. Maybe they are trying to get a bigger mansion in Heaven or something? I guess I just don't know...But their recent church leadership over the past 6-7 years has been very weak, and therefore they sadly seem to promote this kind of un-Christlike behavior. They have also hired some very morally questionable Directors, Worship Leaders and other music, teen etc. support staff. Unfortunately this has had some far reaching negative repercussions for their membership and the community. You may not have an issue attending there if you don't dig too deeply, however I found that attending KUMC was the kind of churchgoing experience that has given attending church and Christians, esp of late, a really bad name.
