Almost left destitute by BMW's incompetence. I've had tens of thousands of pounds in unwanted finance choking my credit report and BMW have gone quiet. Left out of pocket twice due to payments coming out that were unplanned forcing me into an unarranged overdraft.
I found a car that I wanted to view on the website, rang up to enquire that it was still available. I was told over the phone that it was, but I would need to pay a deposit to secure the car until I could view later on in the day. They wanted to charge a whopping £500 for this, but backed down in the end to £250.
I viewed the car and made the decision to buy it. I was selling my old car (1 series) to partly finance the new purchase (4 series). My car was inspected and given a cost, and we negotiated a price based on this for the car I was buying. We agreed the terms and I walked away expecting to pick up my new car a week later (there was some work to be carried out).
Throughout the week I was replying to emails about the car, progress and finance. Everything was OK as far as I was aware and I rolled up on the Friday ready to finalise everything.
After a short wait I was shown the car I was planning to purchase. One job was still outstanding (missing internal trim) and the floor mats were now missing though. These were rectified at the time, but it took over an hour to do this. During this time I cleared my old car out and cancelled my insurance to keep the ball rolling.
We finally went inside to sign the cars over and when doing so it came to light that a finance form hadn't been filled in. I was made to feel at fault until I provided proof that no such form was ever even sent to me. The form was filled in there and then, but due to it being so late in the day, they wouldn't be able to process the paperwork until the following day (Saturday).
I was told that I would have to return the following day to complete the sale which almost tipped me over the edge. I told them that I now had no way of getting home as I had cancelled my insurance. I was offered a loan car to drive home in and return the following day. I informed them that I would be driving the loan car home and that they could collect it from my drive when dropping off my new car. Fair play to the salesman, this is what happened.
This should be where the story ends, but this is not the case...
Four days after the purchase a direct debit came out of my account for the finance of my old car. I rang up and was told that due to the delays and time it takes to settle finance, there wasn't quite enough time for everything to be settled. I was told that it would be settled within a few days and I would receive a full refund.
This I can understand and it's quite acceptable, but then...
A month after the purchase a direct debit came out of my account for the finance of my old car, again. BMW hadn't settled my old finance as they had promised. I rang up to complain and was given excuses of how it had happened. Not a single apology over the phone or through emails. I'm now having to take time away from work to get settlement figures all over again too.

I'm having to ring them on a daily basis to chase something that they're messed up due to their incompetence. read more
