We ordered beef sous vide and some kind of river or lake fish with creamy tarragon sauce and asparagus. Both were divine. Desserts were a bit odd, hot cheese dumplings with cold plum sauce and a poppyseed cake with strawberry sauce (again cold). Very different and interesting for our American tastes. The huftsteak (which I learned was rump steak) was a satisfying 220 gm and cooked exactly to my specification. I added a pepper sauce and a delicious side of grilled mixed veggies. It was all quite delicious. Schmid's has an extensive beer menu with 7 on tap and a comprehensive range of 80!bottled beers and ciders. In addition, a large number of wines are available. Service was very friendly (staff were fluent with English) and the establishment has an atmosphere that would not be out of place in any university town with touches of corrugated iron and rough sawn (but properly finished) timber and engaging background music. Should I return to Krems am Donau, I'll be coming back to Schmid's for sure.
