I had a great experience at Stonehaven because of the dental assistants. It honestly feels like i could give 2 different reviews: one for the dental assistants (which I would give a 5) and one for the dentist (which I would give a 1). My assistant Kalani who I saw my first visit was so knowledgable and helpful with my pregnancy and answered so many questions that I had. He was really thoughtful about everything I had mentioned, even in passing, like how I have really sensitive teeth-he warmed up the water he used to rinse my mouth so that it wouldn't be painful at all for me! He was also extremely helpful in offering different treatment options, being really mindful of payment options and were so kind and welcoming as a new patient. The other dental assistant I saw was amazing as well. She was so thoughtful, took iniative to also do above-and-beyond things to help me be comfortable (like getting me a blanket when I was cold) and maintain my dignity (like frequently wiping my mouth to get rid of saliva). But then you have to see the dentist. There are 2 at the practice, and the one I saw both times was unfriendly, careless, and inconsiderate. He was so thoughtless with everything he did, like jabbing the stick with the mirror in my mouth when he was holding it with one hand and doing something else with the other-just totally unaware of me. Or when he was pulling some sharp little pieces of metal out from between my teeth after doing a filling and DROPPED IT INTO MY MOUTH-- I almost SWALLOWED IT! I don't even want to imagine what could have happened because of his absolutely careless mistake. My daughter was at college and came in for a check up/cleaning and was told she had 6 cavities, needed a gum graft and a crown! We had her come home to our normal dentist who told us she has ZERO cavities. The dentist is horribly dishonest and wanted of a young college girl that needed papers signed for her mission. read more

This was my first appointment with them. The receptionist were nice and so was the lady taking my x rays. But then they had a lady come and measure my gums. I understand the reasoning for this but when I came in for just a cleaning I don't want all this extra stuff. Then she proceeds to tell me I need to get my gums lasered and it's cost an extra $50 and that because of this laser stuff they wouldn't have time to clean my teeth this visit. Uhh yep! We're not doing that. So I left. Paying nothing. No cleaning. And not a good experience. Honestly felt they were just after my money. read more

The staff was really nice and helpful overall. The dentist seem to be a bit cranky and not really welcoming, but it was late and I guess he was ready to go home!. I went there to fix a cracked Molar and after a quick check they had to do a lot more work on me. I would give them 5 stars. Except for the burn they left on the right side of my lip... I started hearing things about stonehaven dental and how they'll leave smaller cavities and wait until they're big until they're too big to just fix. Then they have you get a crown. For the past year and a half I really combated anyone making that claim. Then today I went in for a filling and crown. I knew where a cavity was on one of my molars and it wasn't a big deal. Well I get into the car after my appointment and that cavity was still on my molar. When I went to leave, they said "your teeth look great! Thanks for coming in." And I'm pretty sure that a cavity on my molar isn't a great looking tooth. So tell me, how long have you been practicing this way? How long have you been intentionally screwing over my teeth and hoping I wouldn't see or feel any cavities? You have lost a customer for good. read more

My sister and I both went to stovehaven provo after moving to provo from Arizona for school, after 1 year there I got married and decided to go to my husband's dental office, Stonehaven told me I had 4 cavities on all of my molars then when I went to my husband's dental office 1week later, they told me I only had cavities on my bottom TWO molars and another one that was completely somewhere else than all the rest! I told my sister after they told her that she had 2 cavities, so she decided to go to her usual dentist is Arizona and they said that she didn't have ANY cavities! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. I'm so upset, I would not take the time to write this if didn't think that EVERYONE should know this before they choose Stonehaven Dental. They have super nice staff but obviously LYING or UNSKILLED dentists. read more

I hate to be "that person" with the long negative review. However, my experience was such that I didn't want anyone else to deal with what I went through. I never expected dental work to be cheap, but I do expect a dental office to be upfront and honest about what they're doing, and how much it is going to cost. Its ridiculous that they decided to make an extra buck by manipulating, and forcing someone (specifically a poor and very pregnant college student) to pay for work they didn't even want done, especially when that person is already numbed, and in the chair unaware of what is being done... I originally went to Stonehaven Dental because of their student discounts and their free x-ray and checkup. I had a small chip in my front tooth, and wanted to see how much it would cost to fix. The check up was pleasant, the staff was very friendly and at the end of the appointment they printed out a sheet of paper with all the things that I needed to have done. I went home and showed my husband the treatment paper and we both sat down and tried to figure out where we were going to get $1,000 so I could get everything they said I "needed" done. My husband and I are both still in college, I'm 8 months pregnant and expecting our first child the first of September. My husband works a part-time job, and I haven't been employed since I started getting really sick with the pregnancy, and I'm trying to quickly finish up school before the baby comes. Needless to say funds are short. My husband and I decided that we were only going to get the 5 cavities that were actively decaying filled, since thats all we could afford. (and even that was pushing the envelope) I communicated this to the front desk when I went in, who said they would refund the difference to my account and it would take 5-7 business days. I made sure to tell the dentist and the assistant that I was only getting 5 cavities filled, and not fixing the front tooth. The dentist mentioned that the chipped tooth had a cavity on it and so they were going to fix it. I agreed and said yes, the 5 cavities are what I'm having done. So they went to work and to my understanding fixed only 5 cavities. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. While my husband and I were anxiously waiting for the refund to hit our bank account so we could buy groceries, we noticed after a week that no such refund came. I called Stonehaven only to find out that they were only going to credit back $50 to our dental account (not our card) instead of the $157 that we were promised. It turns out that the Dentist had done more work than I had requested, he had filled 5 surfaces on my front tooth which resulted in 6 fillings, and that they were charging me for this work. I was completely devastated and outraged. I had been very specific to the lady at the front concerning what I could afford to pay for, yet the dentist and assistant decided to go ahead and do more work than I had explicitly stated I wanted/could afford. I told this to them yet they couldn't refund it because the work had already been done. They tried to reassure me that they had done a favor because the additional tooth they worked on would eventually turn into a $2,000 root canal. So they actually saved me money... smooth Stonehaven dental... I will not be going back to Stonehaven Dental. The back fillings don't match up with my bite, the front filling on my front tooth doesn't match, the office staff appeared to be friendly, yet they manipulated a poor pregnant college student, in order to make more money. read more

If you're someone who has dental anxiety, don't even bother going here. I have never disliked a dentist this much. Dr. Moody is extremely condescending and will make you feel like a child for being afraid of the dentist. Last time I went, I requested to have Dr. Neilson because I had yet to have a positive experience with Dr. Moody. That was probably the worst dentist visit of my entire life. I had just finished a retreat on my root canal at my endodontist (because I would never in a million years trust Stonehaven to retreat my root canal) and I was told to go to my regular dentist to get a permanent filling put in. I went in to get a permanent filling with Dr. Neilson and I was incredibly shocked at how rude he was. I have serious dental anxiety and I am always sure to tell my dentist before hand so he is aware. While he was working on my tooth, I was tensing up and making a moaning sound because the vibrations and the jerking in my mouth terrify me. After a couple seconds he pulls everything out and says "Ok, STOP. You need to calm down. You can't be acting like this, there are people next door! If you keep acting like this I'm going to have to sedate you." in a very rude tone. I understand dentists have to deal with all kinds of anxiety on a daily basis, but that's no excuse to treat a patient that way. Anxiety is a real thing. I don't expect my dentist to understand WHY it's scary for me even if I am numb, I expect them to be gentle and patient. I would easily give 1 star, but I decided to give 2 because the front desk ladies and the dental assistants are all very pleasant and kind. They are very sweet and do their best to help you have a good experience. Update: 7/8/2019 I just changed this from 2 stars to 1. I just returned from another dentist in Provo (not Stonehaven) for a cleaning and exam after deciding to never go back to Stonehaven. My new dentist just informed me that my crown needs to be replaced. A crown that I JUST GOT last November from Stonehaven that I'm still paying off because guess what? They put it in incorrectly. I had an experience a long time ago with a different dentist where my crown was put in incorrectly and it caused bacteria to enter into my tooth which resulted in two root canals on that tooth. I am not at all interested in going through that again. My new dentist told me today that if I don't get this crown replaced, I could be looking at a root canal in the future. I literally having been paying off $600 for a crown that is useless. Please save yourself money and stress and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Their business is absolutely terrible and dishonest. They do not care about you here, you are just a number. Because this is a big corporate business, they only care about quotas they have to meet and basically making you pay for overpriced treatments that could be done better with their eyes closed. I love Stonehaven Dental in Provo! The entire office is so friendly and I feel welcome every time I go there. The last time I was in I actually waited longer than normal but I was just fine with it because I know the doctors are taking great care of their patients and don't just pop in and out super quick.. even if emergencies walk in -- they take care of everyone! I have seen both dr. Moody and dr. Nielsen and I think they are amazing and I will not go to a different office ever. Their assistants and hygienists are really some of the best in this county. Very poor experience. I was last seen in October, it is now March. I just got an email yesterday telling me I was being sent to collections. I called and was told my X-rays weren't covered and I owed that payment. I said it would be nice to be made aware of that before being sent to collections. I was met with excuses by the office manager and not one apology. Since X-rays should be covered, I called my insurance company. I was told they did an X-ray that was not covered and that stonehaven would have known that. They would know what is covered and what isn't. But went ahead with it anyway. Every time I go, they have the breakdown of costs and get my permission for anything not covered. However this time they did not and with their mistake was sending me fo collections. Very poor experience. After reading other reviews it looks like this is a common practice. I won't be using them in the future. read more

I went in for a filling on one of my back molars. They first off didn't have the laughing gas working right and had to try to fix it 3 different times before it started to work. Next my girlfriend came with me and they asked her to help with moving/grabbing things for the dentist. Last but not least they drilled to far and damaged the nerve in my tooth. Now I have to get a root canal. I know that tooth decay wasn't the cause of this because A, they could have told me I needed one before from the X-Ray and B, I take very good care of my teeth and had no pain before then. I went back to see if they could tell me what went wrong and they told me that the filling was hitting high but later was told I needed a root canal but told to come in again to check. At first I really liked coming here for my dental work but that is when I was only getting basic cleanings done and evaluations, now all of which I question highly. I had a major procedure done 9 months ago, they said everything was good even though I felt discomfort and sometimes pain with the tooth even after the procedure should have healed. Finally I decided I would bring it up again and knew for sure that there was a problem but after maybe a 3 minute evaluation the doctor said he had done a perfect job and that there could be nothing wrong with the procedure. My two options were to wait another 6 months or have the tooth pulled.....I don't think any Dentist would recommend pulling the tooth if anything else could be done, and I know there are other options. Then my hygienist, who had been and always was the one good thing about this place came in and asked if I wanted to see a specialist, which I have done and am now getting some help. I would not recommend getting your dental work done here. Hopefully that great hygienist can find another job at a more respectable office. read more

The staff was so great! I love how friendly and talkative everyone was, especially Kalani. I felt like I got pretty straightforward answers to my questions and I didn't feel pressured into choices. And the financial part was made very clear. I believe Dr. Nielsen was the one who looked at my teeth, not sure how I feel about him yet from the short time he was there but maybe he was a little overwhelmed. I could tell they were behind, and it took about 30 minutes to call me back. For x-rays and a cleaning I was there 2 hours. BUT I still really liked them compared to other offices I have been to! Made an appointment 3 weeks ago for a braces consultation for 8:30 am. Got there 8:25am, checked in and was brought to the booth. I was told by one on the dental assistant my dentist was with another patient. I waited for 30 minutes and left with nothing done. I was given the excuse that a lot of patients like to go at 8:30 am, but what's a the point, you would think you would be helped on the time you scheduled. Why give appointments for 8:30 when you will make your customers wait 30 minutes. Don't double book, is very unprofessional and disrespectful to your patients. read more

Had a horrible experience at this office my child had a root canal done she needed to use the restroom in the middle of it so she started throwing a fit because she couldn't talk with hands in her mouth which caused her to have a potty accident which angered the dentist, the tantrum did, at which point he tried to put his hand over her mouth and tell her to be quiet yelling at her and then threw his dental tools down and said he was done even though the procedure wasn't completed I had to take her elsewhere to get the work completed. I will be sticking to our regular pediatric dentist from now on I've already taken the steps to file malpractice on this. Tried several times to contact the office to speak to the manager or owner which my efforts were to no avail I was left on hold or hung up on several times this experience has traumatized my child they had to sedate her at the pediatric dentist office just to complete the work that the dentist in this office refuse to complete because she threw a tantrum read more

I love the staff and dentists! Everone is so friendly and the service is prompt. I've never had to wait more than a minute after I've arrived for my appointment. The office has modern, has high-tech equipment and you get to watch movies if you need dental work done! I feel so lucky that I stumbled upon their office when I moved to Utah 10 years ago. The other thing I really like is that before any dental work is done, they explain what the cost will be. I have never felt they are trying to do more dental work to just make money...they have provided honest opinions about dental work and give me strategies to keep my teeth healthy and they give you a care package at the end...a new toothbrush, toothpaste, mouth rinse and chapstick. If i could give this place ZERO stars, I would. I am not the type of person to leave reviews ever but I specifically downloaded this app to leave a review for this place to warn others. My husband went in for a free cleaning and exam, he does not have dental insurance so upon first glance this was our best option. My husband has had one filling in his 24 years of life. (confirmed as of this morning when he went to a different dentist) Very healthy teeth. After the dentist sees him at Stonehaven they proceed to tell him he has 3 cavities and quote him nearly $800 and were pressuring him to make an appointment. My husband knowing he has very healthy teeth and hasn't seen any sort of inkling of a cavity himself (black spots, pain etc.) confronted the dentist and asked him to point it out. The dentist literally couldn't remember where he pointed the first time (from what my husband felt) and pointed to three different teeth. He went to a different dentist today that we trust (family friend- just a bit more pricey) and has NO CAVITIES. This place is a SCAM. do NOT go here. read more

The staff is always friendly, and I feel confident about how they take care of my teeth and teach me proper home care, but the wait is always twice as long as what I would expect. Let me first start by saying that my experience resulted from an unfortunate misunderstanding that happened on my part, but that was terribly handled by Stonehaven. We had a set amount of money to get our family of 3 seen and cleaned. When I talked to the appointment lady I accidentally wrote down the child's cleaning price as the regular cleaning price. I know this because Stonehaven pulled the audio from that phone call to avoid having to refund me the difference. What they didn't tell us on the call was that there would be an additional $25 also charged for flouride treatment. In short, my husband's appointment ended up costing 2.5 times the amount we had anticipated and resulted in my daughter and I not being able to been seen at all. I was very upset upon learning of the misunderstanding. The receptionist could not have cared less. I talked to three people at that office. They were all cold and seem to enjoy their ability to prove that I had misunderstood and they were in no way at fault. When I asked that the x-rays be emailed to me so I could consult with a retired dentist friend, I was told that I would have to purchase them for $50. It was a terrible experience with abhorrent customer service. Upon speaking with neighbors about the incident, I discovered that this was par for the course for Stonehaven.
