Highgate Vancouver is an excellent assisted living community! They offer a wide range of care…read moreoption from independent living homes to memory care. Both of my parents moved to HG when my father's Alzheimer's became too advanced for my mother to mange, along with her own health issues. They had tried the in-home caregivers for awhile in order to stay in their home, but their needs had increased to the point it was not safe for them to stay at home. They both improved immediately within the first month of moving into HG. Having more consistent care and medication management really helped them, plus having more social time with other residence and staff was another bonus. They were honestly getting a little isolated in their home when they could not get out and about like they used to. The director, nurses, caregivers and all other staff have been nothing but fabulous, caring people to work with. And even if there have been SNAFUs - they are always quick to address any concerns. I would not hesitate to recommend Highgate Vancouver to friends and family!

These people are great. We moved my wife's brother here from another nearby "assisted living"…read morefacility that wasn't really taking very good care of him, probably because they have a lot of turnover. Highgate is a smaller facility that is much more intimate. They have a bulletin board with about a dozen pictures of staff that have been there for at least 10 years. When we ate a meal in their dining room I noticed (1) their tables are widely spaced for walkers and (2) some of the administrative staff actually serve the tables. They are all very intimate with the residents. The food is great by the way. We were fortunate to tour just as they had an opening in assisted living. However, after 10 days they called us in for a conference. There had been an incident and they recognized that he was in an early stage of dementia. We were afraid they might say he "wasn't a good fit" for the place. We said that in the meeting and all three staffers immediately reacted for us to be assured, that this is what they are equipped to handle. They have people who are trained in dealing with dementia and have a program for helping keep the minds active which can otherwise lead to pent up frustration. We realize we were too close to see the subtle changes but when they explained how all the little signs added up, it really explained a lot. When something like this hits a family member you are in denial, you don't see it happening. We didn't. They started him in the program and shortly had an opening in memory care where they get the same great food. These people really care and evaluated his behavior. Another place just told us that he was "misbehaving". Highgate is much much better. We're very glad to have found them.

With l resident moves inincluded rent is transportation to doctors shopping outings./excursions. What is left out is there is no lift on the bus, only two stairs with railings on each side but at the top of the steps, they spread out too far to hold onto with both arms No reimbursement for what they have already paid for on the facilities bus . This is the only vehicle they have for residents the managers refused to reimburse me so I went to the regional manager, who agreed to reimburse me for one year worth of rides. This did not include outings and excursions which I missed out on entirely for the whole time. I was there. in conclusion, if transportation is included in the rent and a resident is not able to board the bus because it has no lift yes should be clearly indicated before they sign the rental agreement Thusly, two star rating because everyone likes to get out in the world, even when we're old-er!

This is an update, after almost two years here for my parents…read more There is a lot to say about Touchmark. I will limit my observation to the willingness of middle and senior level staff to treat my parents with respect, listening carefully to what they say and working diligently to craft solutions that work. We recently presented them with some unusual problems. They came together, worked outside the box and creatively, energetically, proactively turned a family crisis into a little oasis of safety and calm. I'll let others talk about the normal day to day routines that make a place like this a home for our honored parents and loved ones. And it's all good, believe me. But, when we needed help ... they were there. Impressive. That's a sign of deep corporate cultural health.

I was one of the early residents of their villas, and they were initially a great improvement to the facility. I felt the facility fully deserved a five-star rating. However while the staff is still outstanding, the quality of services has degraded. It seems that they added over fifty villas to the facility but failed to increase the kitchen size, the transportation support, and likely some of the staffing needs to maintain the high standards of three years ago.

JUST LIKE HOME, ONLY BETTER!…read more My grandmother moved here after a sudden and dramatic decline due to a major surgery. She couldn't take care of herself any longer and needed immediate care. I am so grateful that I found Emeritus during an online search of local senior living facilities. I walked in off the street to tour Emeritus, which is marvelously located in East Vancouver minutes from Hwy. 14 and close to gobs of shops, restaurants, doctors, dentists, pharmacies, grocery stores, and anything else you could need--not to mention about ten minutes from PeaceHealth Southwest. Anyhow, the staff welcomed me and gave me a tour on the spot. The building is beautiful, bright and cheery with a spacious feeling and lots of art on the walls. Better yet, it smells great when you walk in--like it's just been cleaned, combined with the aroma of something delicious coming from the dining room/kitchen. Several residents were gathered in the lobby, chatting to each other. I asked them if they were happy living there and to a person they all answered yes. (Maybe they thought I was a state inspector, but still...) My family and I joined my grandmother in the dining room on her first night, with complimentary meal tickets, and we were amazed at the quality of food. I was expecting something institutional and bland but what we got was worth savoring and tasted home-cooked from the first morsel to the last crumb. Our extended family also attended the Thanksgiving meal, which was EXCEPTIONAL and so crowded they had to seat people in the lobby and activity rooms (two words: BOURBON TURKEY). I used to worry about my grandmother when she lived alone, but now I know she's safe. Her one-bedroom apartment is large (about 600 square feet), always perfectly clean, and overlooks an inner courtyard with trees and benches and winding paths. She's made friends, has been invited to attend activities and outings (Plays! Restaurants! Day trips!), goes to the on-site beauty salon, and the staff encourages her to use the 24-hour beeper necklace she wears not just in case of emergency, but also for little things, such as help adjusting the thermostat in her room or if she's in the hallway and can't remember where she's going. She is treated with respect, dignity, and courtesy. Rarely have I encountered a staff so enthusiastic about their jobs. Everyone seemed delighted to help me, and I'm pretty sales-resistant but these people won me over by treating me and my grandmother with genuine kindness. They did everything they could to make my grandmother's transition easier and more comfortable--and they went far, far above and beyond to help me with the overwhelming number of tasks necessary to facilitate the move, including recommended a moving company that specializes in moving older people and helping me get the proper doctor's forms in order. The financial arrangement was explained very clearly and transparently and the prices--compared to other senior living facilities--are on the low end, even though they could reasonably charge far more. Finding a place for your parents or grandparents is HARD, but Emeritus is just like home, only better...not just because the building is beautiful, but because of the staff's unsurpassed dedication to caring for the people who live there.

I'm reviewing only as a guest vendor. I've been coming here about 7 times, as a vendor, (from…read more2023) and I've always been treated with respect, and I would give them 5 star, because of one person: Marti. Today, made it exceptionally impressive for the following reasons: 1. My two tables professionally covered in black, waiting for me, 3 lights already on. To me, that's a very nice WELCOMING Customer Service, for a visiting vendor. 2. I called yesterday, if I should bring lunch, or if I could purchase. I was told: since I"m working here, I just need to get a ticket from the Desk. 3. My meal was delivered, and I could have taken advantage, by picking everything I wanted from the menu, but I only picked Grilled Chicken Salad. More than I could eat. Boxed leftover to eat another day. 4. Even though a couple customers wasted 30 mins. of my time, (after all that, they told me 'they didn't have money', I was not kicked out of the door. I remained until they were gone, and Marti was understanding. 5. Happy Hour, live music, was a bonus! This was Wednesday. I don't know what it's like on days I wasn't here. Many residents attended the Happy Hour with some of their guests.

Vancouver Pointe (VP) had turnover of 3 Executive Directors in approximately the last 6-8 months…read more Though 3 full meals a day is a part of everyone's resident agreement, VP claims to have to get approval from corporate off site to repair or replace the juice machine and even to reorder food. That's the reason VP gives when they run out of so many menu items. We went close to 2 weeks without any juice at all for every resident here unless they bought their own. VP took around 2 or more years to hire someone to run the kitchen. The maintenance head comes in to my unit with his master key after I denied his request to come in,, beats on my door like police executing a search warrant, screams at me and demands I pay for service I wasn't legally obligated to pay. Don't put loved ones here unless they stop mistreating and abusing people who simply refuse to pay bills that are VP's under the resident agreement. Most of the staff are kind to me, but the management is either incompetent or unable to withstand the demands of corporate to slash costs regardless of how much it hurts residents. When an issue has been resolved with an Executive Director who leaves, the next director starts doing the same thing that was already resolved. Given the turnover, this comes up a lot. I've lived here approximately 10 years, never missed a payment or made a late payment, and never expected to be so miserable living here.
