They work with you on scheduling appointments, they explain everything before hand and at the end, your child will receive a coin (or two) to pick their own prize ranging from sugar free suckers to rubber duckies. He has some texture and sensory sensitivity and they acknowledged how brave he was being. He's worked hard to overcome fears and even had braces for a year. The dentists (at least the two we encountered) were abrasive and seemed callous or untrained in working with kids. -The first dentist was aggro about whether we had sealed my sons teeth the at our previous dentist (we had and they're warrantied). He seemed mad we did not want to pay out of pocket to do it again. -The second dentist was filling two small cavities on my above mentioned 9 yo. My son did not tolerate the gas and was struggling to breath normally with the 'pillow' (it goes along the cheek and back of tongue to minimize spit) so I was encouraging him to count his breathing (I'm a therapist/counselor). He snapped at him to just breath normal and hold his legs still. They were shaking in panic. No empathy. How do you work with kids? Even though we liked the office and other staff, the last dentist ruined it for us. I don't want or need my kid to have unnecessary fears from avoidable stressors.
