I called their corporate office for the 4th time yesterday requesting that someone call me regarding their Town Madison community.  (Which I live in) I've spoken to Madeline (at their office in Opelika) on four different occasions requesting that someone from Stone Martin call me.  To date I have not heard from anybody. Below are neighborhood issues: - Runoff/stormwater drains being blocked (No silt fencing on any of your lots) - Streets are a mess - "sweeper" is no longer running in the neighborhood - Lots are a complete mess - See Pics - My lot has had continuous issues with your trades using my water and power after we moved in/closed - Mud being tracked all over my property by your trades (see pics) - Lack of communication on unfinished lots and estimated completion dates (we were told that they would be completed by  May/June when we signed a contract on December 11, 2021...BTW-  Lot's 16-19 were all "dried in" at that time) - General condition of Stone Martin lots  - Lack of Trade Management and accountability read more

We have had the worst experience with STONE MARTIN. The worst with your company. This is our second home we've had built and this by far is the worst company to work with. We have a swamp in the back yard and they basically refuse to fix the issue. They repeatedly had us walk the plot to make sure the land was what we wanted. The land was flat and had zero drainage issues. We came in rain, sun, and other weather conditions. The land was fine. Once the home was built our yard was not flat. It was sloped and can not be used. When it rains a river is in the back yard and NEVER drains. It will lower but never goes away. We placed our fence 12 feet above property line to avoid water and it still rises into the middle of the yard. The standing water has caused snakes, bugs and other creatures to come into the property. It's a health hazard. We in turn have drain flies in our house in the 100s everyday. Stone Martin told me to get a fly strip. I've hired and fired 3 pest companies only to learn it's the landscape and home builder. There landscapers also didn't sod the front yard and only did half. They planted buses that died. Upon digging the bushes up there was rock and trash all in the ground. We've spent hundreds trying to correct all the problems they won't and still have many issues. Corporate will not respond to us. The warranty company says they will get around to it and we've had appointments and no one has showed up. The warranty company is at a loss of what to do. I would never build with Stone Martin again. I should've went with another home builder. The homes in this neighborhood are on flat land with great landscaping. I'm sure they haven't had to repay for issues the company didn't and won't fix. It's a shame to have these issues in a 400k plus home. Ridiculous!! All of this was stated before closing and they stated it would all be fixed and corrected. Our next step will be a lawyer. Edit:: We've spent 1000s correcting bug, landscaping, and buying new bushes. It's still not totally fixed. We are a military family and my husband is a disabled veteran. Due to them not fixing the issues we've both been in the yard for hours on end. I dare not bore you with the details. Just know stone Martin doesn't not do what they say. They will sell you a lot and completely destroy your lot with drainage to do it the quickest and cheapest way for them. The lack of communication and updating is embarrassing on their part. My dad is a builder in a different state and knows how to destroy a builder. A route I'm willing to go down if my backyard isn't fixed. What a shame, this is suppose to be such a beautiful experience for owners. Now my yard is a hazard for my 6 kids with a drop off off my back porch. read more

Very strange experience with our almost build. Very unusual way of doing business. A contract from heck. Appear to be way over their head and they have questionable management and subs. In my opinion, the quality of their product will result in many future problems. Glad we escaped our nightmare. Make sure and read all reviews and work hard to get into the details before hiring a contractor. We have a great contractor now and wow what a difference. read more

I have purchased over 10 homes, some were over 60 years old. Our Stone Martin home was the first brand new home we have ever purchased and to say we are disappointed would be an understatement. We have had more awful surprises in a Stone Martin home than with all the other homes combined. 1. Roof leaked within 3 weeks of moving in and water gushed out of the attic onto our new floors. According to Stone Martin Builders not a big deal and still haven't explained what happened and if it was fixed properly. Supposedly they did the work. A brand new home and the roof is leaking and they have the nerve to say not a big deal. 2. They flipped the whole design where our garage was supposed to be according to the documents we signed. They did not tell us about the change but threw it in an email with a bunch of other documents. 3. Built our porch 8 inches higher than the design showed on documents we signed. Had to tear the whole thing down. 4. Garage door is busted so we have been manually lifting our garage door on a brand new $550k house for weeks as they try and figure out the problem. Neither flood light outside works in the back. They told me to get a ladder and screw in the bulbs and they would light right up. I did. The lights don't work. 5. Shower in master bath leaks every time I take a shower. They said they fixed it. It's not fixed. 6. Cold water valve not working in laundry room. Every cycle is hot and painters painted right over valves so I'm sure small traces of paint get into every load. They said they would fix. They haven't. 7. Nails sticking up in carpet from tack strips when you walk in bedrooms. These are just some of the issues we have dealt with. Get a higher quality builder to build your new home. These surprises are not worth it. read more

I have now been part of TWO dirt lot, from the foundation to door knob builds. I was 100% involved in EVERY aspect, watched each phase take place, and witnessed everything first hand. One build was Stone Martin Builders 'SMB' Another was Hughston Homes 'HH' STONE MARTIN * Said a lot we wanted was taken, then it wasn't, then it wasn't "buildable" - then was caught in a lie when it went under contract (we think by a friend, realtor held it for them) * cut corners on studs, lapped 2x4s butt to butt to turn a foot short board to a full length board. * have young boys running the builds, I'm assuming nepotism, since they hardly can have experience at that age. Literally never see them on the build sites, and contractors ALWAY cut corners. * used Cat5e to run PHONE LINES, literally could have just swapped ends and punched in the remaining wire for a modern house. However, they'd rather nickel and dime an internet plug, and stick you with a land line phone jack in ALL rooms. * driveways, sidewalks, exterior landscaping were all substandard. Concrete chunks left as is, literal cliffs built in so cutting your yard will be parkour. Puddles form on sidewalks, horrible water drainage. * Both walk throughs required tape, and even up to closing problems weren't fixed, and promises made at closing table. * realtor was rather uncouth, came to walk through late, and didn't even show up to second walk through. Instead she had an "assistant" come in her place. Said assistant was approximately 13 years old, played on her phone, and didn't understand how wire transfers worked. Yes, a 1/4 million dollar wire transfer was not her concern, and had no interest in figuring out the wire transfer info. Her Instagram must be super dope. * Original SMB realtor cashed the WRONG CHECK for earnest funds to contract build. * general attention to detail was very lacking, I'm capable and able to fix all of their errors, and was so over their lack of standards that I've decided to just get after it myself. * leading the final paper review, pressuring for 5 stars and looking over your shoulder and suggesting and guiding their own review. * And last, which was par for the course, every realtor I've dealt with had a closing gift for the buyer. Well, SMB said it was coming/lost/wrong address and we would get it later. * the only saving grace for SMB was our third party realtor Brook. She kept the thing glued together which helped us finish moms home and not just walk away from the circus that is SMB... HUGHSTON HOMES: * realtor started off by walking up and down the street, on FaceTime with us while we were 2,000 miles away, just to show us dirt lots to pick from. * foundation and framing went fantastic, zero corners cut, inspections were simple and above code on many parts. * older middle aged men running the job sites, meaning experience and a little bit of 'asshole' was applied to contractors, which keeps things tight and build to standard and on time. * unlike SMB - HH actually builds a "smart home" from the jump, it's a standard feature, and has ETHERNET hooked up for internet access in every room. * driveway is fantastic, drains properly, sidewalks flow rain extremely fast and zero puddles form. Landscaping was smooth and sod was easy to cut on first go around. Level for a mower and zero cliffhangers * walk through required tape, as all of them do, however ALL issues were addressed and corrected to standard. Even some issues caught by the foreman we didn't even see, were corrected. That's the standard, and is expected when you take pride in your work and have experience (looking at you SMB) * HH standards are literally SMB upgrades. So much more house for the money when you compare the two. My Game day porch is absolutely fantastic. * HH Realtor was an absolute perfectionist. Realtor set the standard for all others to follow, was constantly on time, communication was on point, never made us miss anything, explained details, very involved, hardworking, and was there to answer questions every step of the way. * Realtor even came with a huge 'new home' gift basket with all the necessities for a solid house warming. All this being said.... This is a REAL 100% hands on review between both homes we own. Both homes are within 2 years of each other, and both homes were built one street away from the other. Our house and my moms house. This review is as authentic as you can get, and I hope it helps others figure out how and where they spend their money. I've built several homes and this was by far the best experience I've had. Everyone is extremely professional and responsive. We were kept up-to-date during all phases of construction. Our questions were answered and issues were resolved quickly. Also, we LOVE our floorplan (Dogwood II). I highly recommend Stone Martin. read more

The only reason I'm giving Stone Martin a 1 star is because there wasn't an option for zero stars. These are the WORST people I ever worked with. I've watched for MONTHS as other homes get built while mine just sits there. The market went up and my house is now worth more than the contract, so they really don't give a damn about completing mine. They're responsiveness and customer service is basically non-existent. Buy elsewhere, I'm sure you'll be happier. read more

It has been a nightmare. Our 11 month walk through was never completed or approved. All our open items were put into the completed folder by the lady that was the project manager and we were told they would be addressed on the 11 mo th walk through. We found this odd but it must made the bosses happy ro see no items open in the open items folder. When the walk through occurred we were told the items she put in the closed folder would not be addressed. Ahhhhh it all makes sense now. Our concrete is awful, the teim is a disgrace. It seems children did the work. Our neighbors have kitchen cabinets falling off the walls. They can't help us bit, they can keep building more homes. The lady we purchased from at Stone Martin would not contact us or our neighbors and most likely blocked us, and SMB did they same. So here we are with thousands in repairs and no warranty they guaranteed us. I would never buy their home again. We have all the evidence in the builder trend app and copied and sent to lawyers. We have at least 100 photos of shotty craftsmanship. read more

This is not a review and I have not purchased a SMB home. I did do my homework tho. I checked with the BBB online and read all the negative complaints on this builder and followed that up with speaking with homeowners in the Charleston Mills Subdivision where my wife and I were looking to buy. It was unanimous as to the quality and customer service of this builder. I saw some of the problems first hand and it was enough for me to drive away and seek another builder. read more

Please consider the quality you are looking for before building with Stone Martin. They are the bargin basement of builders. Everything they do or put into your new home will be low end. Unfortunately you will pay a premium for this low quality. This is the first home we have built so we believed the hype about Stone Martin. Best piece of advice I can give is choose another builder. If your forced to use Stone Martin please take your time through your first and second walk through. Make them fix all the issues. We were so excited to move in that we over looked so many issues. That is our biggest regret next to using this builder. read more
