being a patient of this clinic, through the years I have seen a lot. most of the providers are wonderful, however, front desk staff can be very unprofessional. horrible phone manners and can be very sharp when speaking to people. as for back office, they talk a lot about others not realizing patients can hear the conversation. most of the back office staff tend to be pretty lazy and out work off no to others which I find very unprofessional. could be a great place but management needs to change if they are not going to make changes with front and back staff. can't be their friend. it's a business not a country club read more

Historically Dr Stokes was an excellent doctor. He has delivered one of my children 16 years ago. And I thank him for his past professionalism and expertise. We recently revisited Stokes for a consultation and he went on a political rant out of the blue bashing Trump then rambling on about his religion in India. It's a real shame to see such a wonderful doctor with vast experience lose his professionalism and turn into a retard like the rest of us. Politics don't belong in a doctor patient relationship. I used to have respect for Stokes but now I think he just needs to retire. read more

I needed a full hysterectomy and removal of a 17 cm sized football mass surgically removed ASAP! The quality of care I received was Outstanding!! Well, if you need fast and efficient care in a town that doesn't offer much of that, then DK is a lifesaver. That was my case, and wuthin 30 days i went feom a person with a cancer dx to one who is deemed "cancer free." Thank you doctor But if you expect to be part of the treatme t team; if you expect to have your questions answered or support after surgery, well, you will be sadly disappointed. He's def got an old fashioned approach to medical care and the hospital he works from offered zero in aftercare support. Luckily he had another surgeon assist and i was able to get my needs met there. Dr Stokes is ok, but get support or a referal out of town for a second opinion. I just heard that Dr. Stokes is opening up a medical clinic that promotes injectables, lip fillers and other such fake things. A once respected doctor is now stooping to plastic and superficial non-sense. We should be teaching our children to love and accept themselves as they are. I went to see Dr. Stokes as he is listed as an endocrinologist specialist, and the only one in the area my insurance would cover. The mixed reviews left me hesitant, but I was diagnosed with cysts on my thyroid and was scared and wanted to see a specialist to see what my next steps would be. I should have waited until I visited the bay area again. I waited over an hour and a half to even be taken to a room, when apparently there was a free room just opposite me in the hall that was forgotten about then given to patients that had appointments after mine. When I was finally taken in and Dr. Stokes entered the room, I was hardly even acknowledged with a "hello" before he launched into asking questions about my gynocology history, which I wasn't even there for. After ordering a pap smear that I wasn't even expecting to get, he finally mentioned the reason I was there, the cysts. He didn't even bother to listen to my family history of thyroid issues or anything I said, I could barely get three words out before I was interrupted and talked over as he acknowledged his assistant. I briefly mentioned noticing my weight gain, as it is a sign of issues of hypothyroidism apparently, and was told he would order blood tests to see about helping me lose weight, which wasn't my concern. I was told before he began the pap smear, again which I wasn't there for, that he would refer me to a general surgeon and this surgeon would call me about setting up an appointment. I asked if this means I need surgery, obviously alarmed, and was met with "Probably not but they will see, they'll tell you." I never did end up getting a call from the general surgeon, but apparently they wrote a letter telling me who the referral was and to contact them which was written a week after my appointment, and then I didn't even receive this letter until another 4-5 days after that! Overall, I was talked over, not listened to, terrified, and made to feel like an idiot for even coming to this facility throughout the whole experience, I will never come back to this facility or this doctor again. read more

I am 23 years old and came to Dr Stokes in Jan 2021 with EXTREME abdominal pain. My symptoms lead me to believe that I either had a cyst or endometriosis. I had 3 ultrasounds done where they found a cyst on my right ovary. He told me that the cyst had absolutely nothing to do with anything and that women get cysts on their ovaries every month and they just go away. He thought I had endometriosis. I had a diagnostic laparoscopy done in June 2021 where he just went in and took pictures of things. Did not biopsy ANYTHING - only pictures. He diagnosed me with Endometriosis and put me on 6 months of Zoladex injections - which essentially stops your hormones and puts you into menopause to try and "shrink" the endo tissue inside. It is very very intense and I've barely been hanging on, if I'm being honest. He recommended another laparoscopic surgery once the injections were done to laser whatever endo tissue was remaining. I asked him about preventative care for after and he just said "Oh you just go on with life and if it comes back then we do a hysterectomy" I am 23 years old and he's essentially recommending NO preventative care and a hysterectomy when he knows I want kids. I was devastated to say the least. There are a few options for preventative care and I even brought the Zoladex nurse into the appt with me to try and help me advocate for myself but he kept cutting me off and seemed very irritated that I brought her in and was questioning him. I decided to make an appt with an OBGYN in Arcata. They said that in Humboldt County they are given very very basic guidelines to treat Endometriosis and Stokes treats the diagnosis not the individual patient's needs. They recommended I look for a Dr out of the area. I found one in Auburn, CA (near family) that was super highly rated and is actually a urogynecologist so he specializes in the bladder as well (i have endo on my bladder and seem to be having some issues with that). I finished the injections earlier this month in January 2022 and just had surgery with the Auburn Urogynecologist yesterday on January 25. He removed the cyst that I still had on my right ovary which had grown onto my fallopian tube. I have many areas with adhesions (scar tissue essentially) which the doctor thinks is from my last surgery with Stokes. He cut/lasered everything out and is doing biopsy's as well. I have 4 incisions from this surgery and my pain is not even HALF of what it was after my surgery with Stokes and all Stokes did was make one incision and go in and take pictures. It seems that he essentially was really rough in there and caused lots of scar tissue (which doesn't surprise me because if you see the way he talks to his patients and rushes with everything, i wouldn't be surprised that he just rushed through my surgery thinking it was a "routine" surgery for him). I guess the point of my review is to just help other women out there. If you have any medical issues that are out of the norm...PLEASE DO NOT GO TO DR STOKES or anyone local for that matter. I am begging you. I truly don't know what would've happened if I continued my treatment with Dr Stokes and I fear for anyone else that sees him. read more

He uses outdated techniques and surgeries that put my life at risk and who knows how many other mothers life's at risk. I will never go back and I would never recommend anyone else going there. He doesn't explain his procedures very well and he is very uncooperative when it comes to finding alternative routes. When I got referred to a different clinic everything changed my symptoms are managed I didn't have to have a full hysterectomy and I can live my life. Not thanks to Dr stoakes. read more

Dr. Stokes has been a long-term medical practitioner in Humboldt County since the early 1980s. His commitment to Humboldt County is admirable. We had our first child with Dr. Stokes back in 2013, and thought that he and his staff did a great job helping us first-time parents through the process. Office technology could certainly be updated, but Dr. Stokes and his staff are a great option for expecting parents in Humboldt County! read more

Getting in to be seen is hard enough and her attitude when you go to the front counter is so unprofessional. I switched from Redwood Womens Health Center in Fortuna to this shit hole of an office and regret it. I am going back to Fortuna where I'm treated with respect and friendly doctors/midwives/front desk. Do not waste your time here unless you want to a bitchy receptionist talk down to you and hangup while on the phone with you. read more

A good 5 years ago, I was a patient of dr Stokes, and I will regret it for the rest of my life. Without going too deep into my personal life, he made an "educated guess" on what my condition was and set about doing three separate major surgeries including a full hysterectomy. It wasn't until after that that he finally did a biopsy and found out he was wrong about everything. He then didn't tell me and dropped me as a patient, simply saying he couldn't see how he could help me anymore. It wasn't until a year later that my new doctor got my paperwork from his office did I find everything out. He also never put me on hormone replacements after the hysterectomy, so I spent a year going through extremely rough menopause at the age of 25 because I trusted that he did everything right. Honestly, I should've sued. But I was so crushed and so ill and so poor that it wasn't a possibility. Please please please don't trust this man. read more

Do not go to this doctor. The office is chaotic, I was on hold for a very long time every time I called, and waits at scheduled appointments were at least an hour or longer. Dr. Stokes didn't review any of my paperwork or medical records. He hurriedly talked to me one time before recommending major surgery. My surgery authorization was then lost in the office for weeks. This gave me time to re-think what was happening. I decided to get a second opinion, and went to a different doctor who is also a MediCal provider. Her office was calm, uncrowded, and efficient. She had reviewed my case before my appointment, then thoroughly discussed the details with me, answered all of my questions, and informed me that, in fact, I did not need surgery. It turns out that the major surgery Dr. Stokes said I needed was not only unnecessary, but could've resulted in life long health complications. Getting a second opinion is always smart. But in the case of Dr. Stokes, it's critically important. In fact, do yourself a favor and avoid this office altogether. read more
