And it was my misfortune to be referred to Murphy by my dentist for a tooth extraction and an implant. Every day stuff for most dental surgeons, right? Well, for me it turned into a three month ordeal of pain, illness and expense. The critical issue in an implant is whether there is enough bone to set the post to later receive the false tooth. After a series of scans I was assured by Murphy that there was indeed enough bone to take the post. The issue of proximity to the sinus cavity was never discussed, though that later proved to be something I should have been made aware of. The tooth extraction went fine. He placed the post. So far so good. Then I started getting headaches. Bad headaches and fever. As it turned out, he had breached the sinus cavity and an infection set in. I was given penicillin based antibiotics, which didn't do the trick. There was an accident - I bit into an olive pit, which dislodged the post. Went to see Murphy again. He removed the post and placed bone grafts to build up the area to receive the post again after healing took place. The headaches and fever continued. I went to see him yet again to get help for the serious sinus infection and debilitating headaches I was suffering from as a result of the procedure. At that time - my last face-to-face meeting with Murphy - I asked what he was going to do to provide me some relief. In reply, he simply shrugged his shoulders and offered the advice that maybe I "wasn't meant to have an implant." And... that was it. He showed an appalling lack of concern, and gave no help or hope for a further course of treatment. It was apparent that he couldn't get rid of me fast enough. So much for the Hippocratic Oath. So much for professional pride and care. Shortly thereafter I received a letter from Murphy which "fired" me as his patient. The letter stated, "Our relationship seems to be missing the important elements of communication, trust and mutual understanding" and that it was his opinion that "my recommendations for your dental treatment are not being followed". That was pure nonsense. I'd done everything I'd been asked. The only recommendation of Murphy's I didn't follow was to keep paying his bills. I saw a different implant specialist for an opinion. She examined me thoroughly and gave the opinion that there was insufficient bone under where Murphy attempted to place the implant and it never should have been attempted in the first place. This doctor also said it should have been apparent to Murphy from the x-rays and scans that the sinus cavity opening was too close to where the work was done and the chance of breaking into the cavity and causing an infection were too great to take the risk. But that's what Murphy did; he took the risk - with my health. As a consequence, I suffered from chronic headaches and sinus problems for a month before, in an attempt to avoid surgery, an ENT doctor recommended Clindamycin - a very powerful antibiotic. Unfortunately, though the Clindamycin cured the sinus infection, it also wiped out all of the beneficial gut bacteria in my intestines, enabling opportunistic bacteria to take hold. As a result, I now have been diagnosed with colitis and C. diff., and am struggling to regain the good health I enjoyed prior to the unlucky day I walked into Murphy's office. Murphy never should have performed that implant in the first place. Everything that has happened to me since has been the direct result of his incompetence and his unprofessional and brazen disregard for responsible caution with the health of his patients. Even all that might have been forgiven at some level - doctors are only human, everyone makes mistakes, etc. - but the worst part is, when push came to shove, he really didn't care at all. He had taken his shot with me and when things went wrong he just wanted to wash his hands of what had turned into an annoying problem. In my opinion this guy is nothing but a quack in a lab coat. And a shameful embarrassment to the medical profession. There were other issues in this office; members of the staff did not know how to operate the equipment properly, their billing practices are overly aggressive, etc. But for me it was all about Dr. Murphy. If you are considering using him I cannot say this strongly enough - DO NOT let this man work on your teeth.

That orthodontist (see my other review) was telling me to accept what I considered a very unacceptable result after using three different types of alignment methods (lingual braces, clear aligners and then regular braces). Dr. Walvoord listened to my concerns and evaluated my teeth. He agreed with me about the alignment issues and discussed possible ways they could be addressed. I started treatment with him and was delighted with the contrast to the experience with my previous orthodontist. In particular, Dr. Walvoord has a very light touch and does everything he can to cause minimal discomfort during braces wire changes - which was quite different from the very painful wire changes I had experienced with the previous orthodontist. Not only that, but within days of being in my new braces I could already see improvement in the alignment of my teeth! I continued to see steady improvement from one visit to the next, and Dr. Walvoord always listened to any concerns I had and addressed them successfully. The course of treatment took a mere nine months, and my teeth look better than I had ever thought was possible! Scheduling appointments was easy, I was always seen on time, pricing was very reasonable, the offices were lovely and the staff friendly and extremely competent. My only regret is that I didn't come to see Dr. Walvoord in the first place and wasted two and a half years with the first orthodontist. I highly recommend Dr. Walvoord without reservation!

We were referred to this doctor by my son's dentist because my son needed some teeth pulled. I called to make an appointment for this and was told we first need a consultation, and that was fine. We arrive for the consultation which was lasted less than 10 minutes of what seemed more like a sales talk than a dentist consultation. He was nice and tried to be funny but I had serious questions about the methods that would be used to put my son out during the procedure but all I got was "yes we'll give him a little something to go to sleep". Well that was exactly what I wanted to know in detail, what will he get. My son is only 6 and I do not want to drug him unnecessarily, if there are other options. He didn't mention any other options but I know they are out there. When I asked if my son is too young to be completely out he said "well we would like him to be older but...". I'm sorry but that is just scary. We thanked him for his time and started to walk out, when the lady at the front desk said that will be $90 for consultation. What? What consultation? Why didn't anyone mention that there will be a charge for this when I called to make appointment? Why didn't my questions get answered? I paid and left that place feeling like I wanted to cry. Two weeks later I get a letter detailing the charges that this procedure would result in and I was looking at $1100 for 2 tooth extractions. I of course did not go for this as it is a rip off, but most importantly I felt like my concerns were not addressed or even understood. We were rushed out of there with only some petty sales talk that everything be ok and my son would be fine. We were treated like parents who know nothing and like we should not question anything. That was insulting. I want what is the best for my son, and this place was not that.

After my insurance company pledged to pay $2,000 toward the cost but only paid $1,000, I asked the office for some kind of assistance in pursuing additional recovery from my insurance company. I was told that they don't get involved and the insurance company could do whatever it wanted. When I asked if they would consider a somewhat reduced fee as I had a second child who needed the exact same procedure (diagnosed by our dentist less than six months after the first child and would be scheduling soon), I was told that they don't do that. Friends told me that their oral surgeon (in another suburb) knocked $500 off their bill with a second child having the same procedure a year later. After paying more than $2,500 out of pocket for the procedure for the first child, I would have expected some kind of consideration for bringing a second child with the same issue. Decided to go elsewhere because I could not afford a second procedure at the price charged here with no help on insurance issues or consideration as a return patient.

Across three procedures from 2021 to 2025, after reviewing the history of my account, I was quoted a lower price each time and then billed more after the procedures were done. They blamed the insurance and the app they use to estimate, but the fact is they don't do pre-authorization for their quotes. For my recent procedure in 2025, they failed to disclose a prior denial for the same code and same tooth from 2021, yet still gave me a quote that was wrong and later told me the insurance "unexpectedly declined" the same code. They also pre-charged me before insurance finished processing, without my consent, which broke their own policy and added confusion to the bill. This left me questioning whether they already anticipated there would be a remaining balance - otherwise, the pre-charge and refund back doesn't make any sense. When I reviewed the documents they sent me, I also found another patient's EOB in my file. Overall, this office shows a pattern of low quoting followed by higher bills, lacks transparency in billing, and fails to safeguard patient privacy. If this is their standard practice, I can only imagine how many patients may have ended up with the same experience I had.

A month or two later, I received a bill for $1076.50 - the amount my insurance denied. Looking back, I realized I was naive and they manipulated the situation. I thought they would be accurate by merit that Dr. Jodhan's was a professional organization, that their estimates were accurate based on experience. It was after they put my apron for surgery was put that that said I needed to confirm. I assumed that because they were professionals, I might be obligated to pay $100-200. Also, when though the estimated included a tooth graft, they have the recommendation again - thinking back they knew it was optional all along! $1000+ is a huge amount. Knowing that the insurance company pays a substantially lesser amount than the listed price. And their estimate was way off. I called to discuss a mutually responsible settlement. After ignoring 5+ calls, Dr. Nikisha Jodhan instructed that I could pay the full amount with a payment plan. I find her actions to be irresponsive, manipulative, and misleading--which will cost me $1000+ more than I expected She offered a payment plan after I declared to publicize my experience.
