Stitch by Stitch was not at all on my radar when making my list of shops to check out during our recent weekend in Cape May, but I happened to stumble across it, somewhat hidden, in the end corner, downstairs, of the Washington Street Mall. I was so excited to see that it was actually opened during the off season!
While I used to be an avid cross-stitcher, these days my stitching is limited to getting small souvenir type kits. I was hoping to find one of a little light house or something reminiscent of Cape May or the shore in general, but no luck in small kits. Plenty of large patterns, though. I did, however, find two small kits that I loved: one, a bunny for Easter, which incorporates lots of bead work, which I'm in the middle of working on now; and the other a Loch Ness Monster bookmark, which actually my husband found. (Go to Cape May to find a Scotland souvenir, who knew?) The woman working was also very nice, trying to find something that fit what I was looking for, and explaining to me the technique of doing the beadwork on the small kit I did buy. My husband actually also found a pattern that HE loved (it was airplanes - who knew they made cross-stich patterns of airplanes?) so I hope to get my hands on that at some point and surprise him with it for Christmas, perhaps.
Browsing the store did make me wish I were more into my cross-stitch these days, but I was good and I didn't buy anything I knew I'd never complete. Stumbling upon Stitch by Stitch was a nice surprise, and I'll plan to stop back next time we're in Cape May. read more
