I am probably the worst person on the planet to Yelp about a chicks fashion store given the fact…read morethat it is sooooo hard to find a dress that moulds to the shape of my hips, but I do rock a pair of pumps! Fortunately my Girlfriend, oddly enough, does wear womens clothing and spent quite some time in th the Replay Emporium.....which also meant that I spent quite some time there also. Yay for me. As is the case with most of these recycled clothing 'boutiques' the used rags they stock are not on the crap side of the scale. In fact there were a number of items that really made my eyes pop.....I mean my girlfriends eyes.....yeah, thats it. For those out there with a shoe fetish, there are a select few funky examples to drool over (none of them in a mens size 12 unfortunately).

Replay Emporium, ahhh what can I say?…read more I stumbled into this place for the first time when I was showing my visiting relatives around Hahndorf. Little did I know this place would soon capture me with its fashion, trinkets and accessories - not to mention squeeze the life out of my wallet... Walking in, the first things that caught my eye was the cute homeware decor to the right of the entrance. There sat different photo frames, necklace stands, mugs, vintage clothing hooks with such intricate detail, and much more. There were only about three small displays, but I swear I spent about half an hour looking at those alone. They weren't expensive either! I bought a beautiful ballerina jewellery stand and the vintage clothing hooks that are yet to be drilled into my bedroom wall. Next, the fashion. You would never know that this is a recycled clothing boutique. The clothes selected are still intact and of good quality. I bought a minkpink black dress and a cute pantsuit both for under $40. The rings and accessories in the cabinet displays are, however, on the more expensive side. I guess it's because they're hand made, not to mention unique in style. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who loves shopping, or a boyfriend looking for a gift perhaps..?

Raymond Poulton Shoes - Don't be fooled, this isn't actually the store's name!

They only stock a few brands, with a huge number of styles within each brand. Their largest ranges are of Geox and Raymond Poulton, followed by Josef Seibel. There are some very nice shoes in here, however after the neat and attractively arranged shoe shops on the other side of the mall, this shop feels overcrowded and messy, with all the shoe boxes stacked along the walls. It isn't actually mess, it just feels that way! Their prices are as high as all the other shoe shops in the centre, yet you feel like you should be in a discount store. In a place where appearances really do matter, they're selling themselves short.

This week I had the worst experience ever in a shoe store. Raymond Poulton/Geox, Burnside's lay-out…read moreis a bit of a shambles, but the most egregious part of the shopping experience is the shouted, uninvited advice from the two women who rule the shop with their huge personalities. Comments/ unsolicited advice are shouted at customers from several meters away - it's a long and narrow store - as though customers were kindergarten kids in a park needing control by carers who couldn't be bothered getting off the park bench. Although this is a store which stocks quality European shoes, the service, in my opinion, really lets it down. One of these 'assistants' couldn't tolerate my wanting to browse unhassled by her interuptions, then brazenly argued with me about my correct shoe size which I have had measured by the best professionals, and have been wearing comfortably for decades. Later, while at last managing to browse on my own, I was verbally bullied in a grating, patronising voice over the top of the heads of other customers - from halfway down the store. At this, I made a hasty exit, and was able to find an ideal pair of shoes in just ten minutes in a nearby shop where the staff could not have been sweeter or more helpful. A friend visiting the same store on a weekday last month was told by the two women just before 5pm that they were about to close. When she enquired about the exact closing time, the both tried to avoid answering; but when she persisted, the women told her - and any other customer within earshot - to hurry up as they both had appointments and were not staying a moment after 5.30pm.

With most businesses, high frequency of customers and prominent location usually lend to success and high quality. Unfortunately, with op-shops this can be a fatal draw back. Strolling along the aisles in this community store, you can't help but feel some other young trendster got there before and picked up all the cool shirts, jeans and hats. They left you with daggy, out of size dress pants and jackets missing buttons and smelling kind of like death. It's a shame. I can't speak for the women's stuff, but I assume it would be the same or worse for them. Regardless this is a good store to find simple second hand clothing. Daggy shirts to paint in, or throw away pants and jackets for a costume party. There's also a lot of kids stuff kicking around, if you want some crazy toys or old VHS and story books for the young 'uns. The women that work their are lovely too, and offer some of the lowest prices I've seen in my op-shopping experience.

What a great recommendation it turned out to be! The cobblers did an outstanding job replacing the sole and heel, effectively adding another good few years of comfortable work wear out of a very reliable pair of legendary boots. It was the best price I could find at the time and having worked down the road it was a eureka moment when I found it was there in store. Ideal Shoe Repair performs a great service to the local residents, workers and passers by as they cut keys and repair leather goods and the prices are reasonable. Besides selling hand bags they also sell lugguage and accesories like belts, shoe laces, shoe inserts and scraves plus jewellery and umbrellas. Being a dealer in leather they also sell leather protection such as polish, sprays and sealants for leather and suede, even motor bike accesories. Service is fast and friendly and keys are cut on the spot unless there's a few to do and depending on their work load, but overall a great long standing shop which has recently seen a facelift.
