Location: Oestrich-Winkel is in the middle of the Rhinegau wine region (Assmanshausen in the west to Weisbaden in the East). This allowed me travel in both directions, by making this my base. There are a number of places to eat and drink within walking distance like winegut Hamm, Allendorf's Brentanohaus etc. Line 171 bus halts are about 100 meters. It connects to most villages along the Rhine in Rheingau. Oestrich-Winkel station is about 10 minutes walk. My Room: My room was for a single person. It was small, which is pretty usual in Europe. The room was clean and comfortable. It is next to a church. So you do hear church bells go off. Host: This is a family run place. Mr. J. Meckel, who runs it, was very flexible about my late arrival and early departure. My flight arrived at Frankfurt late in the evening and I took public transport from the airport to reach Rhinegauer Hof - Oestrich Winkel. It took me about 1.5 hours to get there. He was there to meet and greet me on my late arrival. On my return my flight was in the morning, which meant I had to leave Rhinegauer Hof pretty early. Mr. Meckel arranged for breakfast earlier than usual to meet my need. During my stay, he was always around to answer any question I had, guide me about places I wanted to visit, and even helped me pack the bottles of wine that I had purchased during the visit. Food: Breakfast was neatly arranged (slices of meat, cereal, bread, coffee, eggs, yogurt etc.) and ready every morning. In the evening, it was fun to join him and other guests and locals in the bar. Plus, it's a little on the swanky side, which is cool. We were on the penthouse level with great views, a wonderful room, and nice upgrades. I especially liked the electronic blinds mounted on the outside of the windows which helped block both the sunlight and the street noise. The breakfast, which was included, was by far one of the nicest we experienced in our two week Euro-trip. An abundance of quality and assortments for different tastes abound for all. The air conditioning is a great asset for the few month it is needed. The room is completely sound isolated from the street. Parking is not included, but parking in the public garage gets you use of the public transport system. Staff was friendly and helpful with tourist sights and directions. I will stay here again if I'm ever in Mainz again.
