Steve's Grill and Restaurant is a very interesting place for an outsider. As someone from Melbourne, I'm not too sure about the history of Steve's Grill or whether it is considered a high-society establishment, but it appears that is the feel that management is going for, and when I dined here, I experienced a gentleman wearing a tuxedo while dining with his wife! While the lights were dimly lit and the service attempted to be silver, Mr Tux still seemed out of place against the contrast of the fish and chip shop paper tablecloth and the Tasmanian working-class feel prevalent here.
Digressing, quite simply put: the steaks here were grilled to perfection and incredibly delicious, the one staff member was highly competent and very nice (sadly I didn't get her name), and the cheese platter special for an amazing $15 was absolutely scrumptious.
The drink glasses are incredibly small, so I would probably just go with water, unless you want to order three drinks for yourself just in order to get through your meal without quenching.
Nothing let this place down, and I'd quite happily return the next time I'm in Launceston. read more
