The appointment was scheduled for 40 minutes, but it took nearly an hour. Unfortunately, despite taking extra time, the haircut wasn't even styled before we had to leave because we had ran out of time. During the haircut, the barber accidentally nicked, my godson, causing him to bleed. Mistakes can happen, but combined with everything else, it added to an already poor experience. What bothered me most was the atmosphere in The Shop. Throughout the appointment, another barber and a client were having an ongoing conversation that was inappropriate, especially with a child sitting just a few feet away. They made repeated disrespectful comments about women that were completely unprofessional. I realize barbershops are places where people talk and joke, but employees should know when a conversation isn't appropriate. The repeated comments about women were offensive and not something a thirteen year-old should have been listening to during a haircut. I also observed that this same barber did very little cleaning between clients. He barely brushed the hair off the chair before seating the next customer, and I didn't see him, sweep the area or sanitize between appointments. I was hoping for a professional, family, friendly experience, but unfortunately, this visit fell short of those expectations.

They DEFINITELY NEED TO LIGHT AN OPEN SIGN at the door for customers and walk-ins. For some reason Ashland just can't get black hair right. The boys made appts with Aaron and I can't recommend him enough. After a couple of bad cuts from people who insist that they are good with "curly hair", the teenager ended up with a buzz cut and swore off trying again until just recently. Aaron was very welcoming and not at all intimidated by ethnic hair. Case #1: He crafted a perfect mid-fade/taper cut and has super clean edges. Aaron welcomed feedback and did tiny detailed adjustments until the teenager was 100% satisfied *excellent customer service* Case #2: It was more like a project. An out of control mop of mixed hair that had been neglected for far too long. Aaron listened intently on what the teen wanted and repeated back to the client with demonstration of what the plan was *YES* He did exactly what the client asked for and waited for feedback. He then suggested that the look would be more balanced with more of a taper in the back. The client felt confident enough that he agreed and I am SO glad that he did. Aaron was right and the style turned out Great! Aaron does black hair with ease. He didn't even touch the water sprayer, just picked it out a bit and used clippers and a wide toothed comb to shape it *5 stars*
