Since switching to contacts I've had a couple eye issues that have popped up. It's always good to visit as Dr. Auerbach is actually really funny and good conversationalist. Beyond that though he is extremely knowledgeable in his field and very skilled at breaking down diagnoses. Lastly, the office manager is really nice too. Overall great eye dr experience.

Being a New Yorker can take a real toll on your spirit, body and mind. Anyone who wakes up before…read morethe sunrise in New York knows battling for a spot on the 6:00 am train alone can age you by five years. A few weeks ago, during my daily Manhattan mayhem, I started to notice that the street signs and subway arrows seemed to blur together. 95th and Broadway started to read 9th & Bradway; I was even having trouble making out the prices on the Dunkin Donuts menu not that it matters because after multiple trips to and from America's favorite coffee chain store, I've got most of their products memorized. After days of experiencing on again, off again blurry vision, I knew it was time to make the dreaded eye doctor appointment. I say "dreaded" because my experience with eye doctors in the past was just that. When I was younger I was diagnosed with a lazy eye, so was in and out of eye doctors until I grew out of the problem. From the age of about 6 to 16 my nose was pinched under a pair of glasses, and my eyes were poked, teased and dilated year after year. I had not visited an eye doctor in about 8 years and hoped whatever was causing my blurred vision could be easily treated. I began to cruise around my insurances website, looking for an eye doctor who was in walking distance of my apartment so that I could avoid giving the MTA any more of my hard earned income. I quickly came across a 315 Central Park West office, conveniently located on my side of town. I gave the office a call and because I needed to see someone after 3pm, was told to schedule with Dr. Robert Auerbach. I came to find that Dr. Auerbach only treats patients in the Upper West Side office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. His hours are wonderful for us working class individuals because unlike many offices in New York he has later availability. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Auerbach at 4:00 and after my usual chaotic day at work rushed myself to the office. I arrived to 315 Central Park West, early and had a moment to take in the incredible building. The building is beautiful, my first thought was "so this is what Cinderlla's Castle looked like". The building is made up of some offices and apartments, and I thought to myself if you don't work in this building....what do you have to do to live in it? Anyway, I entered Dr. Auerbach's office early, and was able to be seen almost immediately. There was zero wait time. His office assistant was warm and friendly and Dr. Auerbach was just as charming. I was quickly thrown back to my 6 year old self, when Dr. Auerbach pointed me in the direction of the bear like 'eye exam chair'. However, the exam itself was nothing like what I had experienced before. Dr. Auerbach did not just throw my head back and squirt a bunch of chemicals in my eyes; instead he sat down with me like an old friend, and truly listened to what I was experiencing. We even went over my family health history as well. When Dr. Auerbach did exam my eyes he did so carefully, and listened to my concerns about having my pupils dilated. I was afraid the dilation would affect my vision and had a writing assignment to complete that evening, Dr. Aurbach respected my concerns, and was careful to move quickly to get me in and out of the office in order to allot enough time for my eyes to go back to normal. Dr. Auerbach diagnosed what was wrong with my eyes, and I was happy to learn that it's nothing a few hot compresses and a little bit relaxation can't cure. Dr. Auerbach coached me on how I have great vision but some slight inflammation in my eyes, and explained that we should try the holistic approach, instead of going ahead and prescribing a bunch of eye drops. He did not push me into a prescription of any kind, or a procedure of any kind. Instead, just gave me tips on what I can do at home to improve the condition. Dr. Auerbach is very knowledgeable, courteous, and has a very warm personality. He takes his time to listen and understand any and all of your concerns and does not just shove a bunch of machinery in your face and tell you to read through it. I also observed Dr. Auerbach speak with other patients and you can sense how much he really cares and loves his job. Scheduling with Dr. Auerbach is a real treat that your eyes will Thank You for. My surgery is scheduled for next week. I am this-close to cancelling it. I am incandescent with…read morerage at the abysmal quality of communication, follow-up, incomplete and incorrect instructions, and the overall lack of professionalism dealing with Dr. Ilan Cohen and his staff. First encounter: Ilan Cohen walks into the examination room, greets me by my first name, and introduces himself as "Dr. Cohen." I am a senior citizen, a woman and also hold a Ph.D., so I'm a doctor, too. I bit my tongue and did not insist he address me as Dr. [Surname], but should have. It was a tip-off to subsequent arrogant and disrespectful behavior. After agreeing to cataract surgery, I received an 11-page binder of information, including a form for surgical clearance to be completed by my primary care physician. I made an appointment for a check-up within the allotted timeframe and my PCP submitted the form. A full three weeks later, Cohen's office calls to say they won't perform the surgery unless my PCP submits EKG results. Nowhere was an EKG mentioned in pre-surgical information packet, in oral instructions, or most importantly on the form my PCP was required to fill out and sign. Less than a week before the surgery, I am compelled to upend my schedule for an urgent EKG tomorrow. I told Cohen's office that because none of this was communicated until after the fact (weeks after), I expect any co-pay from the additional PCP appointment to be deducted from my surgical fee. Cohen's office manager countered with, "Is this a request or a demand?" I replied that, since she put it that way, it's a demand. This is an egregious waste of my time, my PCP's time, and there was zero mention of an EKG. This remains unresolved. Multiple times, I was told a prescription for the eye drops I am required to use for three days prior to surgery would be called into my pharmacy one week before the procedure (i.e. today). This has been in my calendar for weeks. By 3 p.m., my pharmacy had not received a prescription. As recently as this morning, it was confirmed by Cohen's office that prescriptions would be called in today. So I called the office back and was told no, my prescriptions would not be called in until Friday, a contradiction to what they confirmed multiple times. I must begin using these medications on _Friday morning_. The office told me prescriptions are not called in until after 5 p.m. Were the prescriptions to be called in late on Friday, there's no way could I begin taking the medication on schedule for a Monday procedure. [Update: Prescriptions were called in. One medication is out of stock. Had they waited until Friday, there'd be no time to fill it prior to surgery.] All this back-and-forth is by phone. I have begged Cohen's office to text or email me. They say they cannot. In a world in which the majority of medical providers use a portal to communicate with patients, Cohen's office calls...and calls...and calls. They call when I'm in the subway, in an elevator, in a meeting, and at midnight when I'm seven time zones away. It's not as if the guy doesn't have a budget for digital, he just doesn't use it for the benefit of patients or staff. Instead he churns out video after video (60 and counting on YouTube, all SEO optimized to the hilt) to reassure patients that he's great, his skills are fantastic, and cataract surgery with him is a walk in the park. In reality, it's a master class in appalling communication, colossal inconvenience, and gaslighting (starting with the fake-academic name of his outfit). My level of anxiety and distress dealing with this shitshow is sky high. I must now make a hard decision. If I cancel the surgery, insurance won't agree to start at square one with another ophthalmologist. I'll need pre-surgical clearance yet again, also not free. It would take months of additional time and boatloads more money than I've already committed to this absolute fiasco.

Rating: 5/5 Stars -- The Gold Standard of Patient Care…read more I've always been impressed when a practice maintains a near-perfect 5-star rating with hundreds of reviews, and after my EVO ICL surgery, I finally saw firsthand why they are so highly decorated. From the moment you step through the door, the experience is absolute concierge-level service. The logistics and booking were incredibly efficient, but it's the people who truly set this place apart: Yari and Briana: They were my rocks throughout the entire pre- and post-op process. They checked in on me so frequently and with such genuine care that any nerves I had completely vanished. I never felt like just another chart; I felt looked after. Cortes: Took the time to dive into the "why" and "how." I walked away with a deep understanding of the ICL fit, my candidacy, and exactly what to look out for. Dr. Brissette: Simply an amazing surgeon. She talked to me throughout the entire procedure, which was incredibly calming. Her confidence and decisive nature made me feel safe and comfortable in a situation that is normally quite intimidating. It is clear that this culture of excellence starts at the top and trickles down to every staff member. Their bedside manner is unmatched, and it's obvious that the patient's comfort is their primary mission. They even went above and beyond to ensure I was fully recovered and ready for my wedding day, which was the goal we had been working toward from the start. This was the best surgical experience I've ever had. If you're considering eye surgery, this is the only place to go.

I had very bad blurred vision. When I went back I was told by Dr. Brissette there was nothing that could be done . In other words I would have to live with it. After 2 operations I now have clear vision back in my left eye. I was very fortunate that I found a very well respected surgeon who was able to help me. It appears that I was not the only one out there who this has happened too ! PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS DOCTOR !!!!

Very disappointing experience…read more Before arriving, I called to inform the office that I would be running late and specifically asked if I would still be able to see the doctor. I was told that it would not be a problem. However, when I arrived, I was suddenly told that I would need to reschedule. No one contacted me in advance even though they were aware that I might be late. According to the hospital's appointment system, the visit is listed as 15 minutes. When I arrived, I was unexpectedly told that the appointment would take 2 hours, yet no one could clearly explain why. If the appointment actually requires two hours, it raises the question of why I could not be seen the same day after confirming my arrival. The 15-minute late policy does not seem to be applied consistently, and there appeared to be little effort to help or find a reasonable solution. While trying to understand the situation, I asked several polite questions but unfortunately did not receive clear answers. At one point I briefly took a photo of the area, making sure not to photograph any patients or front desk staff. I was then told that photography is not allowed due to a sign prohibiting it, however no such sign was visible anywhere. Overall, the experience felt very disorganized and unhelpful. I remained polite throughout the entire interaction and simply wanted clarification, but none was provided.
