My family and i had been using other lawyers in the past, until about 2 years a ago when I was recommend to contact Mr. Miller. He has helped my father in law battle some immigration issues and he has helped us with title work when we were purchasing a new home. BEWARE - SCAMMER! What a thief! I was referred to him to look over an extensive 50 pg prenup..... Unfortunately, it was my fault that I did not look him up to find out that family law is not his expertise.....no where near it. Just because "he has been practicing bankruptcy and immigration law for a significant amount of time over 30 years", it does NOT qualify someone to look over a prenup, as family law is such a niche. I have plenty lawyers in my circle of friends/family... none of which are family lawyers unfortunately. But when they are approached with something like this, they usually do the ethical thing and say "Unfortunately, I do not practice family law but I would happy to refer you to someone else". This was not the case with Mr. Miller. He was very quick to ask for 1K payment via email (no signed retainer) and scratched up about 3 pages with edits, sent them over, and that was it. Never called me with any explanations, any feedback, any guidance, nothing. I think being that I paid him 1K, I could have been given at least 1 phone call going over his edited pages, esp. someone who has been a lawyer for over 30 years....This is just simple malpractice in my book. Had to hire another lawyer - a professional family law attorney - she laughed when I told her this story and could not believe his way of going about this. Although, I did give this situation to an attorney to deal with, nothing has been filed. He has the opportunity to seek good karma and do the right thing here and give me my money back....waiting to see if he will...On top of everything, I am getting married this wknd and that money could have gone along way! UPDATE 8/1/2013: This attorney's response is a lie! This same lie he told the pre paid legal service and the Florida Bar. He can boast all he wants he was believed by them [because of his persuasive and convincing skills he learned to help win cases] but God, this attorney and I know he was of no help to me.. He did not represent me as agreed upon which was a mediation. I had to ask him several times to let me see a draft of anything he was going to on on my behalf. After he got my money, he didn't return any of my calls. When I read his drafted letter to my opposing party, I noted he had not understood my needs which were discussed during the intial telephone consultation and he was ending his letter asking opposing party not to contact him but to contactr me directly, I fired him! and asked the return of my monies because under the prepaid legal service agreement in the Members Manual a Plan Attorney IS NOT supposed to charge a Plan Member one cent for first letter. But he charged me $500.00 with the belief he was going to mediate my matter.. His drafted letter did not request a mediation meeting or a phone mediation with my opposing party to resolve our issues but only included docs to discuss during mediation and asking that any further contacts shoujld be with me, NOT him!. He refused to return my money when I fired him. He did not honor our verbal agreement, the Legal Prepaid Service Members Manual provision of initial letter should be at no charge. This attorney took advantage of a Hispanic single mother of a person with special needs, which I made him aware of during my one time telephone consultaton and the mediation would have helped my special needs. Because mediation never took place, he should have had the decency to return my entire $500.00, but this attorney charged me for 5 hours work at $95.00 an hour, thus, not honoring the Legal Prepaid Members Manual entitling members to get one letter (first time) prepared by a Plan Attorney at no charge to members. This attorney never saw me face to face. He demanded a retainer payment of 5 hours work over the phone during the intial phone contact, but after he got my payment we never spoke again. He never returned my calls and refused to return my money. read more
