What a rude, rude office!!!! Since I did not want to take all the extra paperwork since I had read it a billion times already, they turned me away from their office. Dr. Adame seems to be a nice guy, and his office is bright and airy, but unfortunately it's rather antiquated and ill-equipped. His x-ray equipment still uses film, which exposes you to a much higher dose of radiation than newer digital methods. Another piece of equipment he wanted to use was actually broken and I got the feeling from what his assistant said that it had been broken for a while. When he wanted to show me what my filling looked like, he had to take a picture of it with a consumer digicam, then show me on its little display. Other dentists I've been to in the area who charge similar amounts have fiber optic cameras and can show the teeth in detail on a screen (and can store the pictures with my file to refer to). As nice and well intentioned as he may be, if his office is outdated the work he can do will be limited by that. read more

I don't recommend this practice. Ray, the front desk admin and partner to Dr. Adame, is rude (see other reviews) and never returns voicemails, which Dr. Adame is aware of. It took me weeks to reschedule a visit. Additionally, on my last visit he was sitting there while the phone was ringing and did not answer it while he was viewing his iphone. I like the dentist and hygienist. However, I don't trust a dentist who cannot manage his front desk person. read more

After 10 years of living here, I finally found the right dentist a couple years ago: Steven Adame. Sadly I wasted tons of money and time on two dentist offices in the Financial district because they were "close to work." NOT a good reason to see a dentist. The first charged a fortune for what I needed done, replacement fillings, and seemed to focus mainly on "cosmetic dentistry." While I don't have a problem with cosmetic dentistry, I want my dentist to focus on health first, service second, and cosmetic concerns way down the line. After all, we aren't all blessed with my crooked chiclets are we? My 2nd attempt at a dentist in the financial district was met with better prices, but a total series of follies as this old retiring dentist (who did a bad job on one of my fillings) was handing over his practice to new guys. Any time this is going on, beware! It's now called Greg Larson Dentistry. Greg was nice, but I had the WORST hygienist there, who absolutely butchered my mouth, lectured me like she was my mother, and I swear one time I was about to jump up and smack her! (now that i think about it, I think I ended up yelling at her, and that was my last visit.) Anyway, Steven's office is very conveniently located off Market St, easy from Muni, and I can always find parking even! The office has big windows and they usually even leave a door open so there's a nice breeze blowing through. Steven is great and his staff is very friendly. My hygienist is very sweet, gentle, and I never walk out of there bleeding and angry like I did from my last dentist. Highly recommended. read more

Ok, I forgive all. Even walking into the office is a pleasure--you go through a courtyard filled with bonsais into a light- and plant-filled space. Dr. Adame is so kind and gentle, and very good at explaining various options and the best way to care for your teeth. He and his dental technician were really nice about my pregnancy--I was worried I'd have to ask to stand up periodically (lying on your back for long periods of time is not so fun), but they checked with me regularly and I didn't have to say a thing. You wind your way down a cobbled stone path, away from all the hub and even the bub. Upon entry, Ray, the friendly and highly capable receptionist greets you by name. Sometimes you go straight to the hygienist, other times you wait about a whole minute. (Really remarkably on time for a dental office, and I always see them in the afternoon, when things would normally be getting backed up.) You are escorted back by the friendly and professional Heather who proceeds to make sweet and gentle love to each and every one of your pearly whites. (No joke, I"ve sent several friends who claim to have super-hyper-sensitive teeth who say Heather was the only hygienist they could tolerate.) Last, Dr. Adame swings by to check everything and answer questions as needed. All the while you're relaxing to non-obtrusive, non-elevator music that helps keep everything mellow. Aside from the weird fluke I mentioned in previous updates, the service has been consistently great. When I needed a filling replaced, Dr. Adame himself called me to remind me about certain considerations related to me being a new (nursing) mother. I make my 6 month appointments each time while I'm still in the dental chair, and those appointments are always honored and are smooth as tartar-free canines. read more

So Dr. Adame plays good music and fixes my jacked up teeth, and gives me drugs and doesn't seem to prioritize his work based on 'This tooth must get worked on because the doctor want to go to Bali in October', unlike some other dentists I have seen (whose practice might rhyme with **Blen Blark Blental**). My only criticism of Dr. Adame is that he is not Dr. Eugene Sigler. Dr. Sigler was the greatest dentist known to man. He was the wind beneath my wings. When he retired he hand-picked Dr. Adame to take over his practice. So I know Dr. Adame is in fact the second greatest dentist on earth. read more

Good value for very competent work. They don't do cosmetic work, which for me is a plus since it means they have less overhead than cosmetic dentists who rely on selling you services that aren't medically needed in order to stay afloat. I spend cash for my dental services, so I shopped around a bit, asking for rates for various services, before I settled on Adame, who offered me a small discount for paying cash. I have been very satisfied over the 4 or so years I've been using Adame. Linda his hygenist just does solid work and is very knowledgeable, constantly updating her knowledge for thoughtful patient education. Her experience is clear; I can relax and don't worry when she's on the case. They have been very good at not pushing unneccessary services; I only got X rays on the ADA schedule, and they actually talked me out of having some work done. A dental appliance from Adame cost only ~60% of what I paid to a previous higher-end cosmetic dentist. Yet it came from the same lab and seems to work just as well. read more

i generally loathe dentists, having had some horrific experiences with nasty root canals and novacaine that just didn't work... but Dr. Adame is fabulous! Dr Adame is an excellent dentist. Friendly, and willing to work with you. I had a bonding done for a chipped front tooth and he worked with me and took my directions for creating the symmetry I really wanted. The final result looks excellent. Be forewarned that he does not use metal for fillings and as a result a filling may cost more than at other dentists. I consider this a good thing because I don't like visible metal. You might be more interested in the cost aspect though in which this more expensive procedure is a negative for you. read more

I am so greatful for Dr. Adame, he is truly a very dilegent and thoughtful care provider. He took his time to fix me up in the most careful way and didn't chair hop as much as other dentists usually do. Lovely light office with a cheerful staff. Give them a try, you will be happy you did. On a sunny day the back doors to the garden will be open and sun will be coming in the windows up in the rafters. Its awesome. Its like being in a spa, but they are drilling the hell out of your teeth. The music is good too. Muzak makes me nervous, but not the tunes here. The office is just comfortable and comforting, oh and sterile. Dr Adame is great. He tells you what he is doing and why. He actually visits with you and treats like a human. And he is not out to drill your for dollars that is for sure. He saved me from a root canal just last month. Many other dentists would just do the expensive procedure so they could bill it. Not him. It already takes a month to get an appointment here so don't try. Just know he is great; I am lucky and you aren't! : ) Just kidding. read more

Linda Dr. Adame's hygienist is AWESOME! I just went to the dentist last week and she was so nice and polite and professional and she explained everything thoroughly and was concise and very pleasant. I've been with this practice when Dr. Eugene Sigler retired and sold his share to Dr. Adame, even having been with them over in Laurel Heights (two plus decades ago) and having Dr. Montalvo as his dental assistant until Raoul got his CA licensure and now has a separate practice at the same location. Phyllis has also retired from the front office; but, the new staff are very helpful with a comfy reception area and interesting up-to-date magazine selection. If they are running ahead or behind schedule, I am telephoned so I can adjust my arrival. Linda W, the hygienist and I go back to last century and it's as though I'm visiting with a second cousin. Dr. Adame has always been very professional and courteous and helpful in arranging deferred payments when I needed some bridgework done to match my budgetary constraints. When I've had an urgent 'problem' I was able to be promptly scheduled in, to be evaluated. A loyal set of choppers here! read more

I am so glad to have Dr. Adame as my dentist. I'd been going to Dr. Eugene Sigler since 1973, so it was a big concern to me that I find another wonderful dentist. Dr. Sigler did a wonderful job hand-picking Dr. Adame, and his work is just as good. But here's the clincher: I HATE the gigantic needle when it is time to get numb, and it often takes several shots to keep it from hurting. (okay, I'm a wimp.) Well, the last 2 times I was in his chair, Dr. Adame's shots did not hurt at all. He goes as slowly as I need, and takes a break between shots to let the numbness spread. I literally fell asleep while he and the wonderful Ruel (his assistant) went to work on me. I recommend Dr. Adame 1000%. read more

I've been going to the same family dentist for almost my entire life, so I was definitely concerned about trying to find a new dentist after I moved to SF in June. Dr. Adame and his hygienist Linda are excellent. Linda has years of experience - 2+ decades as a dental hygienist, and they were both extremely knowledgeable and highly skilled. What I like about Dr. Adame is his ability to listen and help me take care of my teeth. He always makes sure I know what is happening and why before doing anything to my mouth. He's pretty humble and doesn't act like the GOD of my mouth. It is clear that Dr. Adame and his staff are committed to quality hygiene and health and not just the "almighty buck." Dr. Adame and his staff are professional, friendly and a pleasure to deal with at each appointment. A few years ago I lost a filling (that a diffrent dentist put in) and Dr. Adame got me in to take care of the situation quickly, relieved my pain. I did not have insurance back then, his services were extremely affordable. I also love the location which is off set from the street almost in a cottage like building on the back of a property. During the summertime the french doors are open and you can see and hear the soothing sounds of the water feature in the back, while smelling the beautiful flowers. read more

I discovered this morning that I've been going to see Dr. Adame for almost a decade now. I don't know where to begin with this review. . . . his thorough care, great attention to detail, his genuine concern for my life out of his chair, the fact that he isn't an ouchy dentist? I know. . . I will start with his hygienist, Linda. Linda who is the BEST hygienist on the planet. Oh, they can all scrape the tartar off your bicuspids, polish up your incisors real purty and keep you from gagging when they put the xray plate thingies into awkward positions in your mouth. . . but have you EVER been to a hygienist that doesn't lay on the guilt for not flossing? I bet the answer is no! Not only does she come up with good excuses for me ("that tooth is in a really weird position, no wonder your gum depth rating is a 5"), but she gives good suggestions for tools to use with which to floss other than string or tape ("how about a a shower attachment water pic device?"). I want to be better for Linda - oh yeah, and Steven too. read more

yes, another 5 star review. I found Dr Adame more than 5 years ago on the recommendation of fabulous yelpers who did not steer me wrong! The team here is amazing, through umpteen cleanings and my inability to get numb (despite 6+ shots of novacaine) to a nasty infected wisdom tooth and a referral to the best oral surgeon in SF, I have never had a bad moment. I have referred many friends here and they have all been pleasantly surprised that going to the dentist doesn't have to be horrific! Bonus points for the beautiful garden setting, big windows and good wall art. read more

I sit in the same chair with a view of the trees outside, the music is always great, and Linda (hygenist) is perfect and knowledgeable. I get very freaked out over dentists and these folks have been wonderful with me. Dr. Adame is very calm and comforting and extremely thorough. I always have fantastic conversations with Linda on all sorts of topics - self-help, child-rearing, drum circles, Tales of the City and other subjects meaningful to San Francisco residents. In short, I'm a little hard to please and this dentist office does not disappoint. Even the receptionists are great - Phyllis is a kind soul! Dr. Adame was kind, gentle & very thorough with his work. He really does excellent & beautiful work at a reasonable price. Right from the beginning, I should have known there would be some trouble with a dentist that requires you to provide your bank, bank account, how long you've been at your residence, and whether you own or rent it. It was like filling out a credit application form. Then there was the clause I had to sign that gave the dentist the permission to take a full set of xrays if a set was not provided to him that was taken under 3 years ago. I had a set of x-rays that were under 3 years old, and I was informed that the dentist may need to take additional ones, even before anyone looked inside my mouth. When I did show up for my teeth cleaning, although Adame had seen my x-rays, he ordered another full set, because the office found out that my dental insurance will cover the cost of any x-rays, no matter how frequently they are taken. This he did without even taking a look at me. When I said I preferred not to have a full set of x-rays taken since the ones I had provided him were under 3 years old, he told the assistant to take 8 x-rays anyway!! The hygienist was nice enough, but I was surprised that on several occasions when cleaning my teeth the spray would go up and over my face. Never in all my 25 years of going to a dentist did it ever feel like I was getting a shower at the same time my teeth were being cleaned. Add to this that Adame was not even cordial during his time with me. Perhaps he was upset that I wouldn't let him do the full set of 18 x-rays with his antiquated x-ray equipment. After advising me of a condition in my mouth that "concerned" him, he abruptly left the room and never came back. And this was how he treated a new patient he had never seen before. I would not recommend this dentist to anyone. read more

I really had high hopes for Dr. Adame after reading all the reviews. After my experience, I realized that most of the reviews included men saying how cute Dr. Adame is, and not mentioning him as a dentist as much. He was nice I guess. I went for fillings, and at my last appoinment, Dr. Adame saw that I flinched, asked "oh, can you feel that?" while he was drilling in my mouth, and even though I nodded yes, because I could feel pain in my jaw, he kept going!!!! The next day I had a pretty good cut in my gum from wheer his drill had been resting and that's why I felt the pain. Needless to say, I cancelled my last appointment, no thanks. read more

For being a "premier dentist" I would expect to have at least my upper AND bottom teeth cleaned as a first time customer. When I asked my hygienist why he didn't clean my upper teeth he claimed he did and I did not want to argue with him but I'm certain he didn't as there is a distinct clean feeling you get after you've had a cleaning when you run your tongue over the back of your teeth. They were also quick to suggest extra services, at an out of pocket cost, that have not been suggested to me in the past and I'm religious about my cleaning, exams and X-rays. To be exact, when they were probing (measuring) my teeth/gum pockets, my measurements have improved since my visit with another dentist 6 months prior. I could be wrong but all these things make me a skeptical and I feel it's worth getting a second opinion. read more

like many younger siblings, my big brother is very protective over me. however, unlike many others, my big brother is a dentist. he lives in the chicagoland and works for the VA, so aside from the occasional casual check-up spread out over the couch at thanksgiving, all i can really use him for is some genuine un-motivated-by-money advice when i feel like i'm not sure what i need. i used to go to dr. adame when i lived close by, but tried out a different dentist one time at a place that was in my neighborhood and that my partner swore by. although i was more than happy with dr. adame, i tried out this other dentist and immediately regretted it. not only was this other dentist a bit mean, he said that my permanent retainer wasn't broken (despite me feeling the spiky wire poking out with my tongue and the obvious x-ray showing a huge gaping hole in the wire), and was extremely liberal in his decision to fill two discolored (but not sticky) deep grooves that everyone who has ever looked at my teeth all consider "an area to keep an eye on." i checked in with my brother, who was shocked that this other dentist was still using film x-ray, plopped me down on the couch, confirmed that there were no cavities, and told me that when it comes down to drilling out bits of your teeth, you should always be conservative. i called dr. adame's office and asked if he'd be able to take off my retainer and give me a sealant instead of filling them, and was immediately put on the phone with dr. adame himself. he immediately spoke to me by name (even though i didn't even give it), and clearly had my file in hand. he asked me about my brother and, without even trying to appeal to what he knew i wanted to hear or put down the other guy, he reiterated everything that my brother said about the need to be conservative about drilling your teeth, about how it's obvious to see whether the retainer broke, and even expressed surprise at how this other place hadn't gone digital. he also said that he would fax over my information to a great orthodontist and would have his office assistant schedule an appointment for me the next day. that being said, dr. adame is THE BEST. 1 star for being super sweet + 1 star for being super gentle when he's working + 1 star for being super knowledgable and making good decisions about your teeth + 1 star for the prettiest office space that i always drool over (no, not just after that swirl and spit thing) + 1 star for being super flexible = a keeper. why did i ever leave dr. adame in the first place?! he is the dentist that everyone is looking for. read more

I've been going here for a couple years, and it's far and away the best dental experience I've had in the Bay Area. Dr. Adame is great - friendly, competent, and thorough - but as we all know, you spend most of your time during a cleaning with the hygienist. My hygienist, Heather, is extremely knowledgable, capable, and even passionate about her work. She's even won hygienist awards for her efforts to keep up-to-date on the dental field. in my umpteen years of going to the dentist, i have never really adored my dentist...until dr. adame. when i moved to the city five years ago he was recommended to me, and i just loved him from first visit. such quality treatments with attention to detail! i then had dental insurance that he didn't participate in and went through a long epoch of dental misery! i came crawling back and he remembered me...just further proof of the impeccable personal interest in his patients and their teeth. he is professional, kind, gentle and has a most charming bedside manner. i will continue to go to him although my current insurance doesn't cover the costs, but it's worth it to me....it's worth the peace of mind that i have knowing i am getting outstanding care of my smile! read more

Dr. Adame has changed the way I feel about going to the dentist. To start with, his office is beautiful. They have a pretty little garden and on warm days they leave the doors open and you can hear the little fountain outside while they work on your teeth. Dr. Adame is very nice and is a very good dentist. Dentistry is not a place in my life where I look for a bragain. I want to have these teeth for a long time. I am cofident that the work Dr. Adame does is good. I have been to other dentists before findign Dr. Adame where they tried to sell me things I did not need. My boyfriend has been going to Dr. Adame for years, and always comes home saying that he really likes his dentist. I recently needed to find a new dentist, and went to Dr. Adame and was really happy with the experience. He was so genial and sensitive to my dental worries. He answered all my questions and was there almost the whole time. The only time he left is when the dental hygenist was doing my x-rays. He seems to be slightly more expensive that average, but I expected that, recognizing the level of service. read more
