She then said she could remove the $250 fee only if I leave a "5-star review" on Google and send them a screen shot to prove that I've left it. After I sent it to her she removed the fee. The initial forms state that there might be a $250 fee for expenses. When I asked the lady on the phone to clarify that, she said it would only be incurred if they actually paid expenses related to my husband's case, such as fees that doctor's offices would charge them for documents. I informed her that I can get all the forms so they don't have to, and therefore, and avoid being charged. She said that's fine! I was under the impression this whole time I could avoid this fee... once the case was approved for disability - I get slapped with the surprise $250 fee for opening and closing the case. Literally: "Opening expenses. Closing expenses." (My sister referred me to this office and she told me they never had to pay the $250 fee.) If they planned to charge us this fee regardless, they should've told me when I asked the lady on the phone about it! (I was later told that the intake staff are not office staff.) I might have sought out a different lawyer had we known they'd be charging "extra." Especially since we only got one phone call, were confused by the process, and filled out all the social security forms ourselves. In fact, I'm sitting on another request for information right now and have to call Social Security about myself. - I've contacted their office requesting they remove this fee because I was misled.
