"I never thought I'd need a criminal defense attorney, but after an accident where a law breaking e-biker collided with may car and totaled it, I found myself facing a felony charge of DUI/Severe Bodily Injury and the possibility of losing my freedom for 5 years for something I was completely innocent of. I was a complete mess that first day I met Attorney Rick Rivera and Laura Morgan paralegal from Carlson & Hayslett, not even 24 hours after I bailed out of jail. I was already so worried about how the e-biker was doing but now I could not even comprehend what I was being charged with. The anxiety was overwhelming. Rick Rivera changed everything. From our first meeting he was straightforward about where I stood and what to expect, and he never tired of my million questions. With Laura Morgan paralegal rounding out the team and always at the top of her game, knew I was going to be in good hands. I finally felt some sense of calm and control on leaving the office that first consultation. Although my complex case had unique characteristics, he researched and became expert quickly in the unfamiliar. I heard from more than one office staff that Rick was often working late, problem solving, searching for some hidden gems of evidence. He hired the most qualified respected court tested experts and during depositions found evidence of my innocence in the States own witnesses. Then he organized it all into a clear, persuasive letter to the prosecutor in which he really tore apart their case piece by piece leading them to finally open their eyes to the truth. The result: the State dropped the case entirely. No charge, no plea, no conviction....after 11 months of hell, the truth was finally visible!!! Thank you Rick and Laura!!!! No, I still do not understand why I was arrested that day 2 weeks after the accident but I do know who I want in my corner...Atty. Rick Rivera. because Rick is smart, thorough, and his years working as a police officer gives him valuable insider information few others have. He made a terrible situation bearable and for that I will forever be grateful. read more

I honestly cannot say enough good things about Rick Rivera and everyone at Carlson & Hayslett. After receiving my second DUI within a two-year period, I was scared, overwhelmed, and extremely worried about what this could mean for my future. I knew I was facing a serious situation, and I was honestly expecting the worst. From the moment I hired Rick Rivera, I felt like I finally had someone in my corner. Rick was incredibly understanding, professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate throughout the entire process. He never made me feel judged or like just another case. He took the time to listen to me, explain what was happening, answer my questions, and make sure I understood my options. During a very stressful and frightening time in my life, having an attorney I could trust made all the difference. Rick worked extremely hard on my case and was able to get my second DUI reduced to a reckless driving charge. Given the circumstances, I truly could not have asked for a better outcome. I am beyond grateful for the work Rick put into my case and for the opportunity to move forward with my life without the consequences I was originally facing. My experience with Carlson & Hayslett was also exceptional. Everyone I interacted with was professional, helpful, and respectful, but I especially want to recognize Rick Rivera for everything he did for me personally. He went above and beyond, and I genuinely felt that he cared about getting the best possible outcome for my situation. Going through something like this can be incredibly scary, and choosing the right attorney can make such a huge difference. If you find yourself in a difficult legal situation, I would absolutely recommend Rick Rivera and Carlson & Hayslett. I will always be grateful for the way Rick handled my case and for the second chance he helped me receive. The Attorney Who Changed My Perception of Lawyers, It is with the utmost respect and appreciation that I write this letter in recommendation of Daviana. Before working with her, my expectations of lawyers were largely negative--shaped by a prior experience where, as soon as I paid, my attorney vanished, leaving me feeling lost and unsupported in a complex legal situation. I had come to assume that legal professionals, while knowledgeable, often lacked warmth, empathy, and a true investment in their clients' well-being. Daviana shattered that perception in every possible way. From our very first meeting, she was warm, kind, and reassuring, instantly making me feel like I was in good hands. Navigating legal matters can be incredibly stressful, but Daviana's patience, attentiveness, and unwavering support gave me the confidence I needed during a difficult time. She was not just a legal representative--she was an advocate, a guide, and a steady presence who made sure I understood every step of the process. What truly sets Daviana apart, and what I believe is exceedingly rare in the legal profession, is her deep sense of empathy. She doesn't just handle cases; she cares about the people behind them. Her rare ability to blend legal expertise with genuine compassion rightfully earns her a reputation as one of South Florida's top attorneys. If you are looking for an attorney who will not only fight for you but also support and uplift you throughout the process, I cannot recommend Daviana highly enough. She redefined what I thought was possible in legal representation, and for that, I will always be grateful. Sincerely, Ian F. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Rick Rivera and the way he represented me. I hired Rick during what was easily one of the most challenging and stressful periods of my life, and from the beginning, he gave me confidence that I had the right attorney in my corner. He knew the case inside and out, represented me aggressively and professionally, and ultimately helped me achieve the outcome we were fighting for and win the case. I can't recommend Jennifer Burns and her team enough. This was my first time ever having to go through something like an auto accident and the legal process that followed, so I wasn't sure what to expect. From the very beginning, Jennifer and her team made me feel supported, informed, and confident that I was in good hands. What stood out just as much as the outcome was the communication. I never had to wonder what was happening with my case. Every question I had was answered promptly, and I always felt informed throughout the entire process. Sue, Jennifer's right hand, was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was kind, patient, and always willing to take the time to talk me through any concerns I had. Whenever something needed Jennifer's attention, she was there and ready to help. Going through an auto accident is incredibly stressful, especially when it's your first experience dealing with something like this. Jennifer and her team made the process so much easier. They genuinely care about their clients, fight for the best possible outcome, and treat you with compassion every step of the way. I am so grateful for everything they did for me and would wholeheartedly recommend Jennifer Burns to anyone in need of an exceptional attorney. read more

Kaitlyn was wonderful. i looked up 5 star DUI attorneys in Pinellas County and Hayslett was the only firm that showed up. I explained my DUI arrest and she felt she that she could get my charge reduced. i told her that i had a DUI on April 30, 1978 while still in high school and was the understanding that it was expunged. She recommended that i attend Level I DUI school. I attended that class and was later told i needed to attend Level II class. Kaitlyn gave me a checklist of things that i needed to complete as a result of my DUI arrest. I completed 50 hours of community service, MADD impact class, 10 day car impoundment, Level II, and 12 weeks of treatment. All completed before my court date. She debated with the state attorney for 8.5 months and got my charge reduced to reckless driving. I do not need the "high risk insurance". This firm is the BEST. Do what the attorneys tell you to do and be proactive. I went to court and was issued probation termination after verification of everything that i was supposed to complete. If you need a DUI attorney this firm is the best. read more

I hired Rick Rivera, from Carlson & Hayslett, to represent me in a case of stalking filed by my previous landlord against me. Rick, Laura and everyone at Carlson & Hayslett made me feel welcome and heard from the moment I arrived at their Clearwater office. The majority of the plaintiffs claims were misconstrued, embellished and/or untruthful. Mr. Rivera saw right through all of these false claims. Once in the courtroom, in front of the judge, Mr. Rivera's true legal talent shined! He was absolutely brilliant at breaking down each of the plaintiffs false claims against me and proved, without a doubt, that the plaintiff was seeking a bogus injuction for stalking. Mr. Rivera won my case, hands down, and the injunction for stalking was dismissed. If I ever get into any legal trouble in the future, I will confidently retain the services of Mr. Rivera and Carlson & Hayslett. Once again, I want to thank you, Rick, for your time, energy and showmanship in the courtroom... it was all greatly appreciated. read more
