Restaurant was a little sparse, more privacy! Corn was very yummy. The shrimp ceviche was flavorful and had a nice kick.

Mid week brunch meant a quieter atmosphere and open seating. After perusing the menu we ordered at the counter before sitting at a table after picking up utensils and water. We ordered Fambrini's Breakfast, Brie & Mushroom Omelette, Crab Omelette, and shares the Lotus Biscoff Pancakes. Everyone loved their egg platters. The eggs were perfectly light and fluffy. I generally avoid omelettes getting scrambles instead because restaurants tend to overcook the eggs. Our dishes were prepared with quality and flavor in mind. I personally had the crab omelette and left no crumbs behind. The potatoes were well seasoned and wish I had enough room in my tummy to finish them off! The drip coffee was bold and delicious not watered down at all! Finally, we shared the 2 stack biscoff pancakes for a sweet finish. The pancakes were bouncy with biscoff sauce and a mound of whipped cream. This was mouth wateringly delicious. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but this was so yummy. This isn't a traditional sit down service but counter staff were friendly and efficient. There is a small parking lot off to the side and there is indoor and patio seating. Come by for a meal and you won't be disappointed! I wish I lived closer so I could taste the rest of their meal. Kudos and thanks for an awesome meal!

Our Food: We ordered the french toast and Biscoff Pancakes as our sweets. Both were fluffy and perfectly sweet. We also ordered the Monte Cristo and Chicken Pesto Sandwich. The Monte Cristo was okay, but the Chicken Pesto outshined it. The ciabatta bread is housemade and you can tell! Its perfectly soft and pairs super well with the garlic aoili and pesto sauce. The dalgona coffee looks amazing but is only okay, I'd maybe try something else. It is definitely Cafe style, where you order and pay at the counter first. They usually help you find seating (which is all outdoors) and bring out the food. From there everything is self-serve, whether that's for utensils or simply getting water. The food is delivered very quickly, but not super hot. Overall, I think its good food, and worth the visit if you're in the area.

I came with my dad and two kids, and I ordered 3 things, each of which went on its own tray, while carrying my daughter. An employee came by to help me bring the trays to the table which was unnecessary but totally appreciated! The food was exactly what I expected, but that's a good thing - it's very comforting, large portions of hearty meals. I think the biggest downside to my experience was the other diners. This place is patronized by some of the most curmudgeonly elderly folks I have ever met. A man literally came up to the front of the line to scold us for not lining up correctly? I'm not a regular, sorry I don't know how the line usually works, but I did line up exactly as everyone else before me. My kids are pretty well behaved and cute, and usually passersby at least smile at them, but not here! The whole meal felt like I was carrying two screaming children on a transatlantic flight. I thought a woman sitting near us was giving me the stinkeye the whole time, but maybe I was imagining it. The cherry on top was another woman who came into the bathroom while I was washing my daughter's hands after she used the potty. This other woman was coughing like crazy and looked at us then made some sort of sound that frightened my daughter quite a bit and never bothered to apologize or smile or anything??? 4 stars for the establishment -5 stars for the other customers, shame on y'all

Today was horrifically disappointing. Being on a fixed budget we are barbecuing here at home and so I went to get some roasted vegetables to accompany the meat. When it was time to pay they said I owed $31.‼‼‼ I said "are you kidding? " She said no that's the price. $18 for a quart of simple broccoli cauliflower and carrots steamed. It wasn't two dollars worth of vegetables. That is a total rip off. $18 and nine dollars. I had to buy them because I had no other choice since the meal was starting soon. I want buyers to be beware. It's a rip off!! there is no way you can justify $31 for a quart and pint of plain steamed vegetables.

I do like how they have a lot of fresh options and a lot of the grab and go options looked good as well - I saw a lot of folks making salads at the salad bar. I thought the servers were all friendly and there were a lot of meatless choices. I didn't think the soup selection was as good as the one at Tibco, but it's nice they had two choices. I had the panini and it was really good and comes with your choice of side, including having a side of asparagus if you want to be healthier. (I got the fries.) I also really like that they have a large variety of fruit-infused waters available for free. The price seems comparable to other places in the area and also I heard that if you are an actual Varian employee you get a discount, which seems nice. I could definitely see that if you were working here, they mix up the menu enough so that you could avoid getting into too much of a lunch rut. For a visitor, I did find that the cafe didn't seem quite large enough, many of the tables were full. Also it was a little hard to find visitor parking, and I ended up just parking in one of the open lots. My car wasn't towed, so not really an issue as far as I can tell.

BUSINESS LUNCH This…read morecafe is located on Varian Medical Systems campus. Yes, even if you don't work there you are more than welcome to eat there. When I am working at the Southbay office I am surrounded by first world problems. 1) unfamiliar with the area and don't know where to eat 2) it's not the city it's Silicon Valley so seeking a place to eat is minimal 3) selections... There aren't many. The trick is to goto other corporation/HQ's campuses and eat at their cafes. Scored me a great place! Selections selections selections AND AFFORDABLE PRICING! On yelp it says they close at 4. That's a lie, it's actually 2pm. Maybe the espresso bar connected to the cafe is open until 4 and that's not the cafe. Service is predominantly self serve but the staff were so friendly - I appreciate friendly staff! They have a variety and to name a few: salad and soup bar, grill station, deli station, pizza etc etc etc. all items were priced decent for its portion. That sounds like a fairytale when considering working in Silicon Valley! I kept my first experience simple. If simple can impress me I'll be back for the other heavier goods. MINESTRONE SOUP - cup or bowl, your choice. Self portion control, pour as you please. The soup was very hearty and tasty. It want overloaded with sodium and didn't put me in an afternoon food commas behind my computer! SALAD BAR - they charge by pound. Their salad bar was "off the hook" with a lot of healthy options. I didn't know where to begin with all these selections to choose from. I must recommend getting the sweet potato dish located next to the soups. It was phenomenal! I can eat an entire plate of it by itself. FRUIT SHAKE - super healthy. It had a mixed of fruit, Greek yogurt, and honey. Kind of pricy ($4.95 for a small) but it was needed because Southbay is hot. Will I be back! Yup..

There will be plenty of foot traffic going in and out of the restaurant. My dining companion and I settled in at the counter since the weather was a bit brisk today. Joanie's has been around long enough to wear its old-school vibe with confidence. The service is just fine. Nothing to complain about and nothing to tell write home about. It's a small enough place you are able to flag someone down if you needed something. We both ordered the "Joanie's Breakfast Medley" which includes French toast or two pancakes, two eggs any style, home fries, and your choice of protein (bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, chicken-apple sausage, or ham) for $25.95. We added two coffees, because we are functioning adults who require caffeine to make decisions. The food was fine, it was what a Sunday breakfast should be. I had a bit of a sticker shock when I asked for the bill and saw that it was OVER $75 for two people at breakfast, with tax and tip. I sat there doing the math in my head the way you do when you're hoping the numbers will somehow rearrange themselves into something more palatable. They did not. Now, to be fair, I am fully aware that the cost of ingredients and labor has gone up across the board. I was just operating on an optimistic budget of maybe $60 which I now realize is one of those "back in my day" comments to bore the Gen Zs to tears. If you want a recommendation for something sweet, go straight for the Cherries, Berries and Mascarpone French Toast. The eggs benedict is a reliable choice too, if you're feeling classic. The restaurant is easy to get to as it is located at the corner of California and Ash Street, and there's a large parking structure right next door. Would I go back? Probably, yes. But I will be prepared so that the wallet shock doesn't catch me off guard again.

Personally, I love Blue Door, which is a more affordable version of Ettan and serves delicious Indian street food. It's still on the pricier side, but the flavors are absolutely worth it. The drinks are great (also a bit pricey), and on Tuesday nights they host trivia -- which makes the whole place feel even more lively and energetic. I ordered a lychee martini, which was delicious, along with paneer tikka, naan, and daal makhani from Blue Door. We also shared the sesame leaf chaat (my favorite!) and a margarita pizza. The pizza was okay -- not my favorite, as the crust was a bit too crunchy for my liking. Overall, though, such a fun and vibrant spot!
