I see they somehow deleted my review from a few years ago…read more DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS "SCHOOL". The "teachers", incompetent. The facilities, piss poor. The principal, a money hungry, lying, conniving woman! The only reason my child went here is because someone convinced my son's mother that this awful establishment was a decent place for children to learn. Upon my first time dropping my son off, I got the impression it was everything but that. From their humble beginnings in an office park building they've managed to transfer to a new location with stolen funds all while falsely claiming to be a center of excellence. If they're so excellent, explain to me why one of their very own teachers couldn't discern between a noun and a verb. Explain why that same teacher didn't have an education license to save the school money. Also explain why that teacher was formerly a correction officer no more than 6 months prior with no prior education background. These are the individuals the principal are hiring to teach your kids. The principal herself is a joke. She's too scared to even have a face to face conversation about how terrible her staff is and threatened to call the cops on me for wanting to have a private face to face convo with her and one of her staff. Trust me, you'd be better off saving your money because you won't get the value for what you've spent when you could have sent your child to Georgia State for a year instead for what it cost to go to Philmore. You'll regret it and wish you'd taken heed. I beg of you, don't do it to yourself or to your child. I promised this woman I'd ruin her business and I will not stop until she's out of business! The post below is so she doesn't come on here lying as if she's never dealt with me before.

The flip side: Constant hidden fees, too many last minute changes, watered down work to appease unrealistic parent expectations for grade level work, several teachers teaching multiple grades and/or subjects to save money, staff lacks diversity even with age (One had the same hair as that character from Suicide Squad, literally.),many of the teachers are constantly dressed unprofessionally, constant campus relocation, alot of false advertising, ongoing "bait and switch," abrupt and unscheduled changes to school schedule, consistently late and disorganized in general(Typical.), unethical behaviors, unprofessional turnaround when it comes to withdrawal paperwork and refunds, technology is outdated, not enough working computers for students, campus facility upkeep and cleanliness is poor and office administration is pretty much non-existent. Graduation was terribly disorganized and it was painfully clear that it was held in an unauthorized space where even the owners of the building appeared, and were flabbergasted at the audacity! Some parents completely missed their kid's shining moment because the ceremony started outside of what the parents were told and they were pissed! And rightfully so! What an absolute nightmare! Older students are constantly tasked with things to do around the school that are horrendously outside of an appropriate scope, even when it cuts into their classes, and its excessive to say they least. Barely any really nice field trips or opportunities for travel for students and the STEM program is a sham at best. Overall, 3.5/5. Depends on what's important to your family. You get what you pay for with private BOBs.

I can't say enough great things about the experience my son had at A Unique Learning Academy. He began at age three and continued through first grade. The foundation he received has prepared him well! The administrative staff (Mr. & Mrs. Hunt) have been nothing short of amazing! They ensure that the children are loved, respected, fed well and provided the best opportunities to succeed. The teachers are also amazing and provide the structure, rigor and reinforcement critical to student success. A Unique Learning Academy has provided a foundation for my son that will last a lifetime! The owners Mr. and Mrs. Hunt love what they do. Mr. Hunt is the cook ( good hot meals at breakfast and lunch with extra incentives for academic excellence.) Mrs. Hunt is the Director, business driven, a teacher, mother and a friend. The school only goes to 1st grade and when your child graduates they are very well prepared for 2nd grade. My son is in the 99th percentile 3rd grade 6 month level in Reading, Language Arts and Math according to the ITBS test results, My daughter was 3rd/4th grade when she graduated from AULA as well. This truly is an unique place, phonics, counting, reading comprehension, computer, karate, weekly spelling test ( not the baby words either). Learning begins at 1 years old. The children enunciate their words and are challenged to be critical thinkers. The teachers care, know the children and parents by name, The rates are reasonable in relation to the results you will see in your babies. I definitely recommend this school to all parents with babies, toddlers and young ones. This is the right path to achieve the strong foundation for your children.

As a former teacher of The Academy of Scholars for several years, I am saddened to read some of the…read morenegative and false reviews of the school and their current Chief Learning Officer, Ms. Stacy Lambert-Johnson. As a veteran teacher of the school, I know that the entire administration treats all of their employees with nothing but kindness and respect. The school provides an outstanding education for families in Atlanta's surrounding communities. Like most private schools, they hold their staff to very high standards, but nonetheless standards that are achievable for teachers who are passionate, present, hardworking, and truly want to teach. From what I have witnessed, they believe teachers should educate their students because it is their passion. I can imagine that as a prospective parent, you would want nothing less. Ms. Lambert-Johnson and the rest of the administration work harder than any other team I have had the privilege of working with. They take pride in the school and believe that all of their children deserve a quality education. They are genuinely involved with their staff's well-being and want nothing but the best for all of the individuals that they connect with each day. Ms. Lambert- Johnson and the administration take the time and effort to get to know each employee and honor their beliefs, philosophies, and interests. If teachers have a suggestion, they are receptive and respectful to their ideas. If they have been stern with an employee or given a consequence, it is because that employee's actions were not in the best interest of the child. Like all great places of work, the administration's prerogative is simple - do your job well because the families we work for deserve it. I believe that these negative reviews are a reflection of one disgruntled employee's feelings, and it is so disappointing that an educator would feel the need to degrade someone who gives their heart and soul to the school and all of the people who belong to it. I am proud to be a former teacher of the Academy of Scholars and would highly recommend it to fellow educators and families. I pray that if you have seen a negative review, you look beyond it and get to know The Academy of Scholars and the administration for who they truly are- a community of educators who are interested in nothing but educating children to their fullest potential in the most nurturing and supportive environment possible.

I waited a few years after leaving this school to write this review. My daughter attended Pre-K,…read moreKindergarten and 1st grade before we decided that we had to move on. Our initial decision to send her there was because we wanted a full Pre-K program and the children were exposed to coding, Spanish, bible class, etc. Pre-K was pretty good for us and our family. Kindergarten is the time that my daughter started experiencing some academic problems. It became very test and assessment heavy. However, her teacher was pretty good and we got through it with only a few hiccups. However, there were recommendations of what to do over the summer. However, we had her in Kumon all school year and even started with an additional in-person tutor. 1st grade was a disaster for various reasons. The expectations of the "scholars" became increased and elevated. My daughter seemed to be falling behind even though she was assessed and put in the advanced groups. 1st the ELA teacher for my daughter never showed back up to work a couple weeks into school. Her Kindergarten teacher (who had left) came back temporarily and things were going pretty well. Then at the end of the semester she left for good and multiple switches and transition with staff (not teachers) and teachers made it complicated. I met with teachers, head teachers and even the principal. I was not alone and several other parents did the same thing for their children. Nothing was done and no efforts were made to address any concerns. It was very stressful! The amount and levels of work the students had to do were way too much. At one point, there were four tests/quizzes a week on top of projects. Well once we got out of the school for 2nd grade, her ELA teacher immediately recognized that our daughter was having a harder time and recommmended we get her evaluated for learning differences. It turns out our daughter was dyslexic and it accounted for a lot of the issues we had encountered. It is not AOS' fault that our daughter was dyslexic, but I do hold the "educators" accountable for not being knowledgeable enough (with all the testing and work) to identify that may be a possibility. My honest suggestion is that if you have a gifted child that will thrive in any environment, this may be the school for you. However, if you want an environment with appropriate grade level work, knowledgeable educators and faculty and administrators that care about all students not just the top 10% of all children, choose a different school. My daughter was sad to leave because they do become like family. Loved that the staff knew her by name, smiled when she walked in and even gave hugs as she walked into the classrooms. This was the part I missed as a parent. However, she LOVES her new school and we are working on remediating her ELA skills with outside help as well as the protections of special education in public schools. I just wonder how her educational trajectory would have been different, if the educators at AOS would have been more knowledgeable about learning differences. I would have had to move her regardless, but she would have had less need for remediation with the right help at the beginning. Almost every parent/family we went to school there with have left for different reasons. I do not know if it is true, but some former parents believe the owners are only interested in the financial gains and not truly the education and cultivating a great educational staff. Oh and make sure you read the fine print about unenrolling! I know a family currently in litigation about having to pay a full year of tutition because they did not unenroll by the deadline, although their kids do not attend the school anymore.
