Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home - First Responders Appreciation 2017

Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home

You may want to seriously reconsider if you plan to use Chapel of the Valley for a funeral…read more They're associated with Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives in Medford, and based on our experience, they don't offer the kind of experience you would want to remember. Our daughter's funeral was held there at the Chapel of the Valley last February and it went horribly. To be fair, I never should have taken their word when they answered my questions, I should have inspected the location, but honestly I was grieving so hard and it never occured to me that they would lie about things. The young girl who handled things for us seemed like she had never done it before and was really floundering. She was later heard to make the comment that she was glad Charlie Kirk was killed because he was evil, which was really disturbing to us, as no one should be glad a husband and father got murdered, even if you disagree with his politics! They graciously allowed my ex and I to view our very own daughter's body for free, but were careful to charge like $200 or so for anyone else - even her big brothers and boyfriend - to spend a few last, private moments with their little sister and soulmate. Just let that sink in. Monetizing grief. That's a new low. We were promised things they didn't have available, told there was room for up to 150 people (barely sat 75) so that many people had to stand in the back and others couldn't even get in. The elderly manager there literally interrupted the hour long comment time after about 10 or 15 minutes to close it down and what was supposed to last over an hour was like 20 or 25 min. I don't know how recent the photos they're showing of the site are but the place did not look like that when we had to use it. As far as room size goes, the pictures definitely did not reflect the reality that we experienced. The building had dingy older carpet that needed cleaning, they literally just spray foamed a big hole in the wall and leaving it all lumpy, painted over it... at least half of their building isn't wheelchair accessible or is barely compliant; we had a family member who couldn't get to the bathroom in their wheelchair. Their "gathering/socializing" area was in their basement down a steep, narrow flight of stairs which none of the older or disabled people could manage so we had to try to serve the food in their crowded foyer. Our experience was like if we went to Motel 6 for a funeral. The whole experience was really upsetting, and you just can't do it over, so what was meant to be a deeply loving, emotional send off for our precious daughter was rushed, tawdry and a complete waste of money. ** In a Very disrepectful and unprofessional move, what had been meant to be a private call afterwards to the manager about it all was - unbeknownst to us - played out loud to everyone in the room. We found this out later from someone who was there. That just added insult to injury! The manager did said they were sorry and they could set up a page on their website for people to go to and leave the comments they would have wanted to say at the funeral. But how could that even begin to make up for Anything?! People wanted to grieve with loved ones, not look up some obscure site to post comments that others would never see. We noticed that the manager wasn't sorry enough to even offer to refund even a part of the money they took for that debacle. We weren't going to post a review at first, but then thought it was only fair for people to be able to make better informed choices when it comes time for their once-in-a-lifetime opprtunity to send a loved one off. As I said before, you just don't get "do-overs" for a funeral.

Rogue Valley Cremation Service - untitled

Rogue Valley Cremation Service

Not exactly the most compelling of businesses to be searching for, but when the time is right, it's…read morenice to know that places exist like this. Sadly, it was time to say goodbye to my big sister. Her wishes were quite simple. Cremation, no fan fare, no funeral, not even a memorial celebration, just a loving goodbye to those who were close to her while she was still here. She wished to have her ashes tossed away in the air over the ocean. That was all. I could (and would) do that for her. Her Hospice Social Worker was the one who gave me this name and just one other, since these services are limited in their locality. And I discovered quite surprisingly that Rogue Valley Cremation Service provided the exact same services as the "other" place, but perhaps at a 40% discount. I never had to step outside my door to arrange this. I could pre-arrange everything online, which definitely helped me to maintain my own composure and dignity during a most difficult time. Their basic fees include immediate transportation of her remains to their funeral home in Medford, storage until the cremation is completed, the coroner's certified death certificate done, and a non-descript container that can be shipped to me. $945. They made it very easy. And now that she has passed, I am in direct contact with them for the final details and billing. There are a few additional, a small fee mandated by the state (Oregon), and a $25 charge for each certified death certificate. And for the next 6 months I can order more certified death certificates and receive them quickly. After that, it is not as easy. The employees were very kind and understanding. It is a pleasure that I write this review, if if I can help others find a reasonably priced service that is both professional, uncomplicated, and empathetic. Thank you Brandy for your sweet disposition and efficiency.

Supposed to be open 24/7 but cannot get anybody to answer any of their 2 phone numbers.read more
