Stephen Alan Salon - Incredible Partial highlight by Alyssa J. - Hair Salons Near Me - Yorkville, Illinois

I cannot say enough great things about this place! I've been a client since 2009 and followed Stephen Alan Salon from Sycamore to Yorkville as they've continued to grow over the years. They've taken my hair from drab to fab with the right products to keep my hair healthy and beautiful. They've helped me battle hair issues and hair loss from cancer and other surgeries. And even taught me how some of my medications can impact the tone of my hair and what products to use before my color appointment. They aren't just stylists at a salon... THEY ARE FAMILY! read more

I have never had my hair look better and feel healthier than going here. Nicole did an AMAZING service from the time I stepped into the salon. She was very professional and accommodating. Great experience every time....Nicole is the best! read more

I just had the best, most relaxing experience at this Yorkville salon. Kristen touched up my grays and nailed the color. She was so fun to chat dogs, kids, and schools with. Tori did my wash and blow dry and completely blew all other salon services out of the park. The scalp massage while she was washing was absolutely amazing and, paired with the ambiance of the dark room, gave the whole experience a 10/10. When we got back to the chair, she was super knowledgeable and informative about the products she was using. She then worked her gentle magic while drying and, again, it was the most relaxed I've felt in a very long time. I'm pretty sure I feel asleep three different times while with her! Upon checking out, even the girl at the front desk was as sweet as could be. She shared pricing of a couple of products, but didn't make me feel pressured to purchase anything at all. I can't wait to go back for my next appointment in six weeks! FIVE STARS all around. Oh, and the icing on top of the already-sweet cake!? I work for the Yorkville School District and, last spring, I reached out to the owner, Heather, about a partnership with our employees. She happily agreed and, in an effort to give back to her Yorkville community, she offers a great discount to all Y115 employees. It was her willingness to partner with us that prompted me to make my first appointment here and I'm so glad I did; I've found my forever salon home. Thanks, Heather, Kristen, Tori, and everyone else at Stephen Alan Salon. You guys are the best! read more

Nicole is THE best. Not only does she do a great job with my cut and color, she's super nice and fun. The salon is nice and the prices are very reasonable. read more

Moved to Yorkville and needed closer salon and I'm super picky with my blonde hair. I called and left 3 voicemails and NEVER got even one call back. Their loss. I go every 6 weeks for roots, full foils, toner, trim, blow dry, style, waxing and I love to buy good products like Oribe, Christopher Robin, IGK, Harua, Emera, Bumble and Bumble, Davines, Kevin Murphy, Aveda, Rene Furterer, Olaplex, Lanza etc so they lost out on a lot of money by choosing to simply ignore my 3 urgent voicemails. Very unprofessional. I go to Lola by Gina in Geneva instead. read more

LOVE IT! 1. The place is easy to find/park, the decor on the inside is chic, modern, relaxing & clean. I love the tour of the whole place! (It makes me feel like a family) 2. The receptionist was very friendly, and helpful. 3. Samantha Ridge was my hair stylist! She is very knowledgeable, sweet, kind, fun & took VERY great care of my "oh so messy, I need a magician to fix it" hair-LOL. She colored/cut my hair exactly how I wanted it! She took her time very carefully, very patient & the end result is outstanding! My hair looks very healthy, cute and it smells/looks amazing!! 4. The price is GREAT!! The best hair salon around for sure! 5. Heather (the owner) was helping around the place, and she was very helpful, caring, kind and gorgeous! 6. I will come back!! Highly recommended it read more

I had an amazing experience at this salon. Nicole is top notch and did an amazing job on my hair. With newly moving to the area from FL, I was thinking it would take me a while to find the salon that I could call "home". It is so nice to know I found it on the first try thanks to a referral from my neighbor. Something that sets this salon apart from others I have been to is not only the friendliness of the staff, but the LATHER LOUNGE. AMAZING!!!! I look forward to going back. read more

I just moved to the Sycamore/Dekalb area this past summer and I was looking for a new salon. I found this salon through word of mouth. My first appointment I was looking to touch up my dark brown color, add a few highlights, and add some layers. My stylist was very friendly, but she didn't seem to know what she was doing. The color that she touched up my roots with was very red-even though my base color didn't contain any red. In addition, she started my highlights half way down my head because she said they would look more natural. When I went home to visit my family the following weekend they all asked me when I was going to get my hair done because they thought the color problems were due to fading! In addition to the poor coloring the salon did not schedule enough time for my appointment. So my stylist rushed through styling my hair and the owner kept telling her that her next customer had been waiting on her. I found it extremely difficult to relax knowing that they were rushing. After the poor coloring and rushing, my stylist tried to push a variety of products on me. I kept trying to politely tell her no, but she did not back down until I told her that I could not afford to spend $80 on products. The pricing for their services also seemed extremely high! I go to a salon near Chicago and get the same services for 1/2 of the price! I think this salon is great if you want something very basic and are willing to pay high prices. read more

I have found my new salon! Margaret was absolutely fantastic and I cannot wait to go back again. As someone who gets nervous every time I cut my hair, I felt so relaxed and comfortable the entire time. She showed me around before we even started and walked me through her entire process. I will definitely recommend Stephen Allen (and Margaret) to anyone who asks, because I can't wait to go back myself! read more

You'll definitely get your money's worth here... I have been trying and trying and spending money on places to find a new "go-to" location for my hair needs. I absolutely LOVE the color bar-you relax while your color does its work..genius idea! I hate sitting in those chairs at other locations..when shampoo came I got an amazing head massage-complimentary! The massage in a quiet semi dark room so you truly feel relaxed and just feel refreshed leaving this place. When I got to pay-I was blown away how affordable this is and it solidified my reasons to come back. I definitely found my new hair salon. read more

The staff and atmosphere is fantastic and professional. However a few weeks ago I took my 7 year old to get her hair curled (left down, not in an updo ) for her 1st communion and they charged me 70 dollars. Which I do not see appropriate at all. read more

The three words that come to mind when describing this salon are, "BEST SALON EVER". The entire staff is pretty and super friendly. They treat you like you've been friends forever. I first started getting cut and color from Heather the salon owner, but if Heather was absent, and I had to get cut from someone else, I would have complete confidence in whoever was available. The lather lounge is something I enjoy as well. It's very relaxing. Keep up the good work ladies!!! read more

The staff is always so friendly, the stylist are up to date on all the latest trends! I have used 3 different ones over the last 5 years and leave looking fabulous. Thanks ladies for always being so knowledgable and knowing what I need to look great! read more

The absolute best salon experience I have ever had. I have been to a lot of different type salons, high end and not so high end, and this was the best. Very enjoyable experience and the prices were very reasonable. The staff were very professional. I got my hair done by Hadley and it was the best cut and color I have ever had. She is very knowledgeable and did a great job. read more

This salon is amazing! I am VERY particular about my color and the tone of my blond. I always feel that they truly listen to what I am looking for both in my color and cut. I have a background in the cosmetology industry and this salon does it right! From the beginning, the way you are greeted, to your consultation to the ahhhhhmazing lather lounge experience. The best part in my opinion of treating yourself to a hair appointment is the shampoo and this experience will not disappoint. You are taken to a separate room with calming music, its dimly lit and fully relaxing. The staff are extremely friendly and caring and want to make sure you love your experience from beginning to end. Highly recommend them. read more

I had a great experience and got a great cut. I went from very long hair to short, and cut about 5 inches off. I did not give the stylist much to go on and she nailed it! read more

The staff go out of their way to make sure you have a relaxing and great experience every time. I have been coming here since they opened and have never walked out unsatisfied. read more

The best customer service and friendly staff! Price is right on target for the services offered. They are slightly trendy/edgy, so no lavender flowers and fluff to be expected......who wants that crap anyways, i want a stylist not a candle shop. They are extremely professional and represent the Paul Mitchell brand well. They offer complimentary drinks, a spa experience that fits into your budget and time, and great periodic deals. I always get the Tea Tree experience with my haircut for no additional cost. The staff is very approachable and friendly, if a salon can make this dorky guy feel comfortable then trust me you will enjoy your visit as well. 5 stars from me! read more

Love the lather lounge!! So relaxing. They take washing your hair to a whole new level. Great hair, great service what more could you ask for. read more

I recently moved to Yorkville and wanted to look for a hair salon near by. I found out about this business through yelp and thought I should give it a try. My first experience there was excellent. I am very satisfied with the service. Everyone there was very friendly and made sure I felt at home. The Lather Lounge experience was great, and I felt really pampered. Hadley was my hair stylist that day. She is an amazing person; super friendly and very knowledgeable. I am in love with my new haircut. Hadley gave me the look that I was looking for and I am extremely happy. Worth the price. I will definitely come back and would recommend this place to others. read more

I am new to Sycamore. My last haircut was 5 months ago. I had been putting it off because I had such bad experiences in salons. I saw Tiah yesterday for a haircut & I am so happy with what she did for me! She is not only very knowledgable about the products the salon provides, but is very talented as well. Without a doubt, one of the best haircuts I have ever had! Love the salon, I can't wait to go back. read more

Best 10 minute lather shampoo ever! The owner is the best stylist out there! Her staff is so highly trained that you don't need to worry about who you go to for a cut, they are all great! Nice clean and comfortable atmosphere! read more

I have been to this salon twice - once with Danielle (who is no longer there) and once with Bree. Both times, I was given the stylists complete attention and the took the time and effort to do a great job. I love the complimentary services (heated towels, aromatherapy, massage, etc) that you get with your service and that all of the staff are friendly and helpful. After my most recent experience at a different salon, I appreciate these awesome ladies even more! read more

This salon goes above and beyond in customer satisfaction. The stylists are knowledgeable and approachable. The Lather Lounge experience is amazing. You need to check this salon out. My entire family are clients, even my 3 year old daughter! We love Stephen Alan!! read more

Best place around by far! I go in every 3 weeks to get my haircut, the girls here are fantastic. Very professional and definitely know what they're doing. Unlike most places I've gone to before, I've never had even close to a bad experience here. They really listen to what you want, and are knowledgeable enough to give advice on what would look good on you. Highly recommended to anyone. read more

Great lather lounge, fantastic staff! Love the level of professionalism, committed to a high standard of service. Hair services exceptional. read more

The staff at Stephen Alan is AWESOME! I've been gong to Tiah since she started there and always leave with exactly what I want. (I am very particular with my hair due to bad experiences in the past.) It's refreshing to go into a salon and come out with what you asked, no matter how complicated it may be. I've gotten highlights, full color, shines and the best ombre at this salon. Everyone is friendly and they have amazing perks in their lather lounge. Perfect for new NIU students who are looking for a quality salon. Worth every penny. Keep up the great work! read more

This is by far the BEST salon I have ever been to. I highly recommend this salon to anyone who wants a great cut and style. They really take the extra time to pamper you, unlike any other place I've been to. The staff is very talented and polite. This is the best place for a relaxing salon experience for a very resonable price... read more

I always seem to struggle with finding a decent hairstylist and have ended up with major trust issues due to previous bad experiences at other places. I stumbled upon this salon and decided to give it a shot, and I'm very glad I did. I used to see Tiah but now see Margaret, and she is fantastic. I was going in for a drastic cut and was already really nervous (cutting off 7 inches and doing blonde balayage). Margaret made me feel really comfortable and really calmed my nerves. I am so so happy with the results and will definitely continue to go to this salon. read more

Today was my first time coming to this salon. Usually I don't trust anyone to do anything with my hair, not even curl or straighten it. But I love, love, love this place. From the moment I walked in, they made me feel like a VIP. I was offered a beverage as I waited for my stylist, which made me feel like I was in a friend's home. The lather lounge is the most relaxing thing I have ever experienced. I wish I remembered the name of my stylist, because I want to give her a shout out. My haircut is perfect! (She wears glasses and has dyed blonde, short hair, if anyone knows who I am talking about.) Everything about this place is the perfect blend of professional and friendly. The price is a little high for my college-student wallet, but I can't even complain because I feel like at this salon you are paying for an experience, not just a service. read more

I am rating their nail service (since I have never had my hair done there I can not comment on that). The salon staff and atmosphere are friendly and nice but DO NOT GET A GEL MANICURE HERE!! I bought a groupon for 2 gel manicures and they SUCKED! The first one chipped after only 6 days on multiple nails and I am not rough on my hands. The second one I got chipped on 2 nails and it was only 4 days later!!!! More are peeling up and chipping each day since... Every where else I have gotten a gel manicure it has lasted minimum 10 days before a chip occurred and the one at 10 days was only because I bashed my nail.... Usually lasts at least a full 2 weeks! The only reason I went back a second time was since I had bought the 50%off groupon for 2 manicures. I will never ever get my nails done there again. The color selection sucked.. I will go to the nail salons that specialize in nails from now on... They should just not even have the nail option at this salon. read more

They are amazing! I tried to do an at home kit and it turned out horrible. They made my hair look red carpet ready! Hadley did an extremely awesome job. Thank you again for all your hard work. 10 stars! read more

I am new to the area, so I needed a salon, ironically I found this salon via yelp. I made an appointment and had Tiah as my stylist. SHE WAS WONDERFUL! The overall experience was great. It was more than the basic hair cut and wax. She showed me around the salon, educated me on the do's and dont's of my hair and truly educated me on how to style my hair! Her work was exactly how I like it- she made sure I was happy with everything! Happy to say I found my salon! :) read more

I was very blown away by the costumer service that this salon provided. As many others mentioned, I can also agree that the lather lounge is by far the most relaxing experience I've yet to experience. Its very hard not to almost fall asleep with being so relaxed. The haircut done by Samantha was done perfectly to my expectation and not rushed. I also was able to meet and talk directly to the owner Heather and understand her commitment to customer service and creating a very relaxing and enjoying experience for her customers. I very much would recommend this place to anyone seeking a relaxing experience that cares about its customers and doesn't charge and arm and a leg. I look forward to returning soon! read more

Heather did my hair for my wedding and made me look like a million bucks!! Not to mention came through for the MOH hair & Bridesmaid(my sister) updo when the salon they booked with said they DID NOT have them down for an appointment! She's fabulous! I highly recommend her and her salon read more

I have been with this salon since the beginning. Since their opening, when only a few ladies on staff worked, they have only grown in the most positive way possible. It is apparent that this salon strives for customer satisfaction and perfection. I do not trust the health and style of my hair, with anyone else. Top of the line, no one can beat it!! read more

I got my hair colored there and I was almost late, due to the weather, and was told if I was more than 10 minutes late my appointment would automatically be cancelled and I would have to pay extra the next time I schedule. I was very surprised they were so non chalaht about the reason I was late. Being the roads were icy, and they would actually want me to rush there, risking my life and the lives of others over hair. I also didn't like how my stylist rushed through my appointment, like someone else had commented. Because she had another client waiting, she only did an all over color and didn't get to my highlights. She wanted me to schedule another appointment. I found that extremely inconvenient, as I had wanted my hair done for the weekend. Then it was extremely overpriced, over 100.00 for just a cut and all over color. And when I tried to change my mind about hair products I had picked out, another stylist who was in charge and checked me out, she was short and thin with blonde hair, refused to take no for an answer and rang up the products. I was so upset. I'm never going back there again. And nobody could see a change in my hair, including my boyfriend. :(( read more
