In December 2015 I looked for a good dancing class and I found it on the internet. I tried it Friday night and really enjoyed it so I joined the group. The teachers are professional and patient. They take time to make sure we understand all the different steps. If we have difficulties, they break every movement down to insure we understand properly. They make us feel comfortable to ask questions or to repeat movement. These teachers are the most patient instructors I have ever met! The dancers group is friendly, and you feel part of the group very easily. It is relaxing; you have lots of fun and establish good relationships. I would recommend it 100% to anyone. My hubby and are were in Fort Lauderdale for 6 weeks Feb/Mar 2016 and being dancers we just HAD to find a place to make dancing happen! I did an internet search and very fortunately for us came across VERY positive reviews of Salsabor - Step and Dance! What a great find it was too!!! We are ballroom dancers but in January we were in the Dominican and had been introduced to Bachata. The basic was easy and with dancing in our background we just started to do it naturally. Of course with no training we had no style and limited steps. Hence my search for a place to learn this latin dance! After one class Tony thought we would be fine in the intermediate group class and there we were set to learn. What fun it was - the classes were certainly challenging for us - but Tony is an experienced teacher and he was able to get us up to speed with our learning. "It's those hands Tony - hard to believe we often had the right over the left when it should have been the other way around LOL - and you just don't end up as you should if you have that confused". I can't say enough about the group of students Tony has in his studio - after the first class we felt right at home. We were greeted by all with warmth and everyone there strives to help their fellow students to learn - no pressure just lots of positive feedback. That attitude doesn't just happen, it is a result of the messaging from Tony. I was recently visiting Florida from Canada for a month on my own (single, 52 year old female) and I wanted to take some dance lessons. I was intrigued to learn more about salsa dancing after I had met some people a few months earlier who went out salsa dancing on a regular basis and had invited me to join them. After a quick search on the internet, I contacted Tony to see if I could take a few private lessons from him (I was very impressed with his website and he replied to my request very promptly.) I took three very encouraging private lessons with him and he was SO patient and knew exactly what to say to me so I progressed rapidly. I then continued at his studio and took the group lessons. I came regularly for the few remaining weeks I had on my holiday and met some super nice people. The atmosphere at his studio is warm and inviting (no attitude at all) and I was amazed at how quickly I was absorbing all the information he taught as well as having fun learning and interacting with all the other students (of all ages, backgrounds, etc.) I HIGHLY recommend Tony's dance studio to anyone wanting to start doing something new and rewarding as well as meeting lots of nice people. I'm regular guy with no past dance experience. I took some classes at a different school before I was highly recommended to see Tony at Salsabor Tropical. Best thing I could have done! I was lost at the other school & started to loose hope. Right away I saw the difference in the way Tony teaches. He builds on the basics making sure you have a strong foundation. Guys are taught the importance of leading a girl from the start. Girls learn how to read the lead given to them by the guys. The women benefit from the fact that Tony can switch from male or female steps on the fly! It's really impressive most women are left jealous from his moves :) The guys benefit because the girls really learn how to follow with ease, making it easy on us. Tony has a passion for teaching. He has a great staff of assistant instructors that help him. But I've jet to show up to a class and not found him there waiting with a smile on his face. Often times the classes run into extra minutes if it doesn't interfere with another class. That level of dedication is rarely seen now a days. I've been to numerous dance studios in South Florida an attempt to find a dance studio that hones my abilities to learn Latin dances rather than drown me in promises of fast-paced instant gratification. I've settled into Step N Dance for the past two months and find both the instructor (Tony) and fellow students to be warm, relaxed and welcoming, and yet, teach and learn with zeal. If you are looking for a true community learning experience where the studio has a large and spacious ambience, the instructor watches over every student's dancing posture, technique and progress with detail, breaks down elaborate moves, concentrates on fundamentals, and treats you with utmost respect, and, fellow students are forthcoming, helpful and encouraging, this place is for you. The Salsabor Step n Dance school has entirely changed my life!!! Tony Duarte is truly a master at his craft and a unique teacher in this art. Step N Dance is an awesome studio. It provides a fun learning environment with great instructors. I took salsa and bachata lessons and it was a blast. The instructor is not only an amazing dancer, but he is also a great teacher. Tony is the MAN! His technique is admiring. Not everyone can do and teach, but he has the skill. He breaks down each step, catches every step you make, and helps you perfect it. He dedicates time to each and every single one of his students and he never hesitates to explain a step numerous times until you feel comfortable doing the step. During class you also have the opportunity to make friends, personally I know that the friends I made will be invited to my wedding for sure! It's that kind of environment. Tony Duarte is terrific. I have taken salsa with great dancers in New York, Houston, and Boston.Tony is as good as any of them. He's all about the mechanics of dance, breaking it down. For a guy (or a woman who wants to lead) this is so critical. He doesn't try to teach you a lot of flashy moves. He's about getting the basics right. No, that doesn't mean simply doing endless cross body leads. Rather, it's what elements and timing make for great elegance and pleasure in executing seemingly complex moves. All which makes it easier to have a good time - versus concern yourself with obsessing over outdoing yourself - and everyone else - on executing something nobody (including you) really understand. Great dancing for me means having fun and that starts with understanding where my left foot needs to go in connection with my partner's left foot, nevermind right foot, hands, etc. Again, Tony breaks it down. Why 5 stars? Well, for starters the school is just nice. Nice people, focused on learning and very friendly to clumsy newcomers. Understanding of poorly trained newcomers who think we're intermediate when we don't even know timing. Like me. Patient - not just the teacher, but the more advanced students - with dancers who can get stuck. Like me! Also, they have the right balance between encouraging you to circulate around and letting you stick with your partner if that's really what you're comfortable with. It is hard to turn down the unlimited classes - that's how you get to be good. The focus is on fundamentals but they get you into fancy turns and spins, don't worry. "Going between Salsa on 1 and on 2 can be confusing, but learn both, drill it in, pay your dues, you'll have more fun. Throughout my entire life I have always wanted to take dance classes and I am so honored to have found this studio. Step N Dance has changed my life! Tony is the most patient and technical dance instructer I have ever encountered. In additon, his psychology towards dancing is a rare approach that makes him stand out among other instructers in his field of work. With Tony is not only about the steps or the movement of the dance but also about the reason behind it, and how we as humans hold back so much for reasons beyond the dance. I've wanted to start salsa classes for many years, but never happened due to my busy work schedule, finally I was able to start looking for a dancing school, and am extremely pleased and lucky to find Salsabor Tropical Dance Studio, Tony and his instructors are GREAT! Tony Duarte is THE salsa guru! If you want to learn how to dance salsa amazing, and learn the right technique- go see him! I had never danced salsa on two and after a month with Tony, I feel I can get by on any dance floor. Tony is so patient and it seems like he has eyes on the back of his head becaus he finds time to correct you and still keep the class on target. I had a great experience with Tony! I purchased a group set of personal classes with him to have my Father- Daughter dance choreographed and taught to us. He is the most patient instructor that I have ever met! My dad had never danced before and it was awesome seeing Tony break everything down for him and provide him with the positive encouragement he needed. I have been going to Step N Dance for the past 5 years. It has been such a fun and enriching experience. Tony Duarte is an amazing teacher, he teaches great technique and he allows you to move at your own pace. I also really love Step N Dance studio because it is open to all ages, you really feel welcome there. I started by myself and later my 19-year old daughter and my 18-year old son joined me. They felt very comfortable there and truly enjoyed themselves. I am so happy I was able to share the joy of dancing with my children. When I started taking lessons at Step n Dance with Tony I didn't know any of the dance steps. Tony is a wonderful teacher and breaks down all the steps. He will take extra time with you if you are picking up the step right away. The unlimited classes allows you to go whenever you can and really get in some practice to cement what you learn in each class. I had a wonderful time, met some great people, and I can now go out dancing and hold my own. Circumstances have forced me to take a hiatus from class but I plan on returning as soon as I can.
