Unfortunately, our family did not have a positive experience here. In feb we enrolled our son. The first few days was a transition but he seems to enjoy it. However the next week during pick up, his eyes were puffy and I could tell he had been crying for some time. He stated one of the teachers (with black hair) hit him on his arm. I immediately spoke with the director Kim who had him point out who did it behind the two way mirror in her office. He pointed to the lady "in the green shirt with black hair". She was disappointed and in shock. Told me she'd have a talk with that teacher and get back. After not hearing back, I sent emails and made calls to her. Finally received an email stating "we have a hard time believing this happened" and a whole bunch of other non sense. My kid was so scared of this one teacher he would shut down on the drive there. We finally decided to pull him out a week later since "nothing" happened. Ms. Brenda is a great teacher, and it's seems as if Kim the director runs the place very well- but I think she should've handled this situation more seriously. I have three children that currently attend Step By Step in the Corcoran location. They have all been full-time students from the infant room all the way to the school age program. My husband and I absolutely love the Montessori program, and we have loved seeing how the children embrace every aspect of it as they grow. The teachers there have been wonderful, and my children literally skip in the door every morning. The educational activities, field trips, and life skills that they offer here are second to none. I have been especially impressed the past couple of years with the infant room teachers. They are truly the nicest people in the world, and my daughter adores them. This has made the transition from maternity leave to working full time so much easier! My oldest daughter started Kindergarten this past year in the public school system, but she rides the bus back to Step By Step in the afternoons for the school age program. She has excelled in Kindergarten thanks in large part to her Montessori training, and Step By Step remains a familiar respite for her to come to after school. The staff here are very agreeable and accommodating, and you can tell they truly love what they do because most of the teachers have been there for many years. I admire what they do, and I go to work every day knowing my children are not only receiving excellent care, but they are also growing academically, as well as socially each and every day! read more

Couldn't pick a better school for my son to attend. The staff are wonderful and I've watched my son grow in confidence over the last 3 years. I am confident and excited to be sending him to the kindergarten program this coming Fall. read more

My super shy daughter started here when she was 20 months old. It was an emergency placement as her grandma (who was watching her at the time) had a badly broken leg and was unable to take care of her. The center was conscientious of her needs and let her acclimate in her own way. Drop off was always difficult but she would end up clinging to one of her teachers for 5-10 minutes and they would now only allow it but would incorporate her with whatever play they were doing with the children nearby. This only lasted a few weeks and things got better fast. When grandma's leg healed, we decided to keep her in the center because she was doing so well by then! We loved how she was not in front of a t.v. The teachers are all engaged with the kids at all times. There is no "group huddle" with the teachers in the playground like you see at other facilities. They really take their jobs seriously and they really LOVE those kids and it shows. Montessori is a great program on its own but what sets Step by Step apart is their teachers are taught in one of the two methods (international or american) which makes them unable to be accredited but gives the children a better balanced experience. I never see babies crying unattended as with other facilities. I have seen only once a child crying without being tended to and it was only because the teacher was finishing up changing a diaper of another child. My daughter just turned 5 and I have seen all the same staff all this time. VERY low turnaround. The support staff cycles around because they are highshcoolers and college kids but the teachers/facilitators are the same ones that have been there since she started. Oh, and everyone knows her. Even teachers from other schools. They are great. My daughter is now reading chapter books, is secure in who she is, is a social butterfly, knows who she is (for her age, anyhow), is not shy at all anymore, and is very happy...this as she's been through a divorce in her family. I credit the staff at Montessori for this. They have a very stable way of running their classrooms while allowing for personal freedom of choice in how the kids are going to learn their topics of choice. It's amazing to see them at work. Nice school. The staff stays in good communication with the parents. The school has a great playground with lots of space. Not the typical cramped preschool play ground. The teachers I have dealt with really want to help the children. read more
