I don't know how I am the first one to review Westwood Village Barbershop because these old dudes…read moredo the best fade this side of Camp Pendleton.
Well, let me back up a bit. Albert does the best fade, ever. I've been going to him since before he opened this shop, at least 15 years. I've graduated h.s., finished a B.A, received a M.A., joined the military, left the military, moved away for a PhD program, moved back to write my dissertation, and Albert has been there every step of the way.
It's a no frills shop. You wont find chicks with revealing clothing messing up your hair because they never learned how to properly fade at whatever flunky beauty school they attended. This is a barber shop and they keep it simple. You'll typically find the one and only T.V. on some sort of afternoon courtroom show or morning television show (they really like Kelly & Michael). They have the usual outdated magazines to occupy your time while you wait.
Albert and the other dudes have their regular customers. We will wait for our barber even if some dude brings in his three children ahead of you. That's just how it is. The thing I like most about this place is I don't even tell him how to cut my hair anymore, he just does it. That's pretty cool. Now, if I could just get my favorite bartender/bar to remember me like that I'll have lived a complete life.
So if you have long flowing hair that requires a lot of maintenance and specialty products from a beauty salon, I don't know what Albert and his crew can do for you. I mean, they're talented and I'm sure they can hook you up, but they seem more old school to me. If you're in the military and need a medium reg, Westwood Village is your spot.
Bonus: Albert will trim the eyebrow hairs that grow all wacky when you get older. Indeed, the first time he did that I was like, WTF, I'm an old man now because I have crazy, uncontrollable hair growing randomly.
Protip: Go early on the weekday if you can as it tends to get busy on the weekend and in the afternoon. They're closed on Sunday/Monday. And bring cash, no credit cards.
