Wow! What a predatory upsell business this is! As the advertisement shows, we wanted the 5 room for $79.99, knowing we only have 3 bedrooms, hallway, and stairs. We also have an area rug we were hoping to get cleaned to make up the 5 rooms. First, the owner starts talking about all his medical woes from all the hard work he has done over the last 30 years cleaning carpets. He has a long list of serious issues. Frankly, I don't believe any of it. I think this is a sales ploy to get his customers to feel sorry for him. Then he sits down with a written list of all the charges. The $79.99 cleaning has now morphed into over $600.00. See pics. What a dishonest business. I showed him his ad and said we want the $79.99 special as advertised. We don't even have as many rooms as it includes! Nope. He won't do it. You must buy certain extras. We fought back... I told him and my husband I would rather buy a new green machine and do it myself. (After 30 years, ours finally died). Frankly, if I had been home alone, I would have asked him to leave. This was one of the most unpleasant transaction we have ever had. If you are good with paying exorbitant pricing, then this company is all you need. It is a pure bait and switch. Predatory marketing, recommend you do business elsewhere! Their quoted price will not end up being what you pay once they arrive in your home. This company banks on the bait and switch marketing scheme to pressure you for the service once they are in your home. Check out their BBB rating, review here and case file with the Attorney Generals office. Clearly a business to be avoided. read more

I used a flyer made the appointment it was advertised as $12.95 per room, I had 3 rooms done , at the end I was charged $119 for a $40 plus tax job! They said they had to pretreat, i tolg them I didn't want any pretreatment! very disappointed in how the ripped me off with this additional $80 charge read more

I have no idea why I didn't check these guys out on Yelp! prior to calling them off their ad. Probably because I've never had people post actual prices in an ad that they don't want to honor. I must live in lala land or something as I somehow have the idea that companies post loss leaders to get their name out there and do a good job so they get referrals. Well I see that the only review on here for this company is back in 2010 and they seem to utilize the same deceptive practices so here we go with my experience: I saw their ad and coupon in the paper and saved it as I was moving soon. I called to confirm that the price was indeed $69.95 + tax for the entire house. The very polite woman on the phone said yes, they send the cleaner out and if there are heavily soiled areas they have an additional charge per square foot for pre-treatment, but the technician would take a look and it's only if it's needed. Being from Hawaii we don't wear shoes in the house, we don't have pets, and used area rugs so basically the rug was pristine - this was just such a great price that we wanted to use it vs. going through the time and effort of renting a professional steam cleaner from Home Depot or Lowes and doing it ourselves like usual. I figure chances are because the rugs still looked new there would be no pre-treatment needed and made the appointment. The coupon said it was good for 30 days from the receipt of the paper so I made sure with the person on the phone that the coupon would still be good the day we were making the appointment for. She said yes, just give whomever shows the coupon, and that we were good to go. The technician, James, came out and straight away said he was not going to honor the coupon and the price would be $147 + tax. What? Come again? He said $69.95 wasn't worth his time. Okay. I'm not sure how that works but NO THANK YOU. On his way out he gave his "last offer" of $130. He said it would be the best price we could find in the area. Because of the outright deceptive practice, we said NO THANK YOU. Did a little research and found Peaches and Clean. Called them up, got a quote, they came out that same afternoon. Total cost with tax? $114.75. And they did a great job! So if you're looking for a carpet cleaner that will come out and actually honor their phone quote *gasp* call (334) 277-6937 or check them out at http://peachesnclean.com/. Either way don't bother with Steam Clean, what a total waste of time - I have no idea how they haven't been shut down with their advertising practices. read more

I scheduled a steam clean and sanitizer for 2 rooms and stairs because of a water leak I had. When the technicians came out they could only spray a solution on the carpet to deter mold because the carpet was still too damp. They told my husband and put on the yellow service sheet that they would come back next week to clean but required half of the payment down. We paid $100. The day before they were supposed to come I called them around 5:00 pm because I had not heard from them and was told that there was a system glitch, which I don't believe, and I was scheduled for the next following week which made no sense to me because now my furniture now has been moved and house in disarray for 2 weeks and now they want me to do 3 weeks. I was told that I would get a call back first thing the next morning, and never did and I have been calling all day and no answer. This is the Montgomery location. I will NEVER recommend or use the company ever again BEWARE! THE ONLY REASON I GAVE THEM 1 STAR IS BECAUSE I HAD TO CHOOSE A STAR TO POST THIS REVIEW. read more

The staff was pleasant but make sure you read all the small print at the bottom of the page about the $.28 per square foot for pretreatment. This cost more than tripled my base rate so be careful. read more

Be very clear about the services for which you contract with this company. The $100.00 "special" covers nothing more than a simple task you can easily complete yourself with a brush and vacuum. If you actually want a substantial duct cleaning service it will cost a great deal in excess of that "bate and switch" price! The final quote from the service person was closer to $1000.00 than $100.00!! I would not recommend this company mainly for the deceptive business practices. read more

Don't ever use this service. They are completely unreliable and the carpet is still dirty after they leave. They have Unprofessional employees that you would never want in your house. Don't use them. read more

Oh my goodness...are you kidding me??? Monthly I get marriage mail from Steam King with coupons. Several times I thought I would call because of the good deal ($59.95 for 5 rooms) which I called them yesterday. When they came today - I told them not to move the heavy furniture - which I figured would offset all the charges for the pretreatment. He immediately told me it would be the coupon price plus $12.95 plus pretreatment and my living room is very small but has a dining table in it (making it two rooms according to tech) so that would be an additional charge because it is a living room and dining room. WHAT??? I told him as long as it was not going to be $100.00. He said it would be well over $100.00 at which point I told him their ads were false advertising and I would not be needing their services. UNBELIEVABLE!!! read more

Steam King is a complete rip off with their ads. they are miss leading. I wanted the whole house was $79.95 but he wanted me to pay $180.00 this included $.28 square foot for pre-condition solution which my house really did not need. They do not honor their adds at I rate them 1/4 star if that much. My husband told him to get the hell off our property read more

We called them and discussed the service to be performed. They said may need to pre-treat a few spots if needed, which is understandable. The ad had a 5-room special and we measured carefully and made sure the footage matched the price quoted, and it did. So we scheduled an appointment. The ad clearly states 28 cents per sq. ft. additional charge pre-conditioning for heavily soiled areas, WHERE NEEDED. They came out and did a walk-through. Then they proceeded to inform us that they refused to clean the carpet without pre-conditioning the ENTIRE HOUSE. This alone cost more than the 5-area special, so it more than doubled the quoted price! NOT Acceptable! Would have been more than happy to pay for certain areas to be pre-conditioned, but NOT the whole house. When we refused the pre-conditioning treatment and asked for just the cleaning, he told us that it wasn't worth his time because he works off of commission. And to think, we were even going to pay them extra to do the stairs. Forget it, Steam King. read more

DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY!! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!! We are expecting our baby girl soon so we figured it was best to steam clean the carpets in our house. My Mom offered to make the appointment and set it up for us. She called and spoke to a 'nice lady'- like these other reviews call her. My Mom told the lady she just wanted basic steam cleaning with no preconditioning or spot treatments. The lady sat up the appointment and clarified that the coupon that came in the mail my Mom had for $40 would apply and be used for this appointment. This morning, I helped get a few things off the floor- but not a lot because the company said the total included them moving things to clean the carpets. *Last night my husband looked at these reviews on Yelp and saw that this company was known for bad business and false advertising and possible theft of personal items. So automatically, a red light went off in my head. I had determined that I wasn't going to be taken advantage of and was going to make sure they honored their word. The guy calls on his way here to my home and my Mom said 'I want to make sure that you are going to honor this coupon'. He says 'yes ma'am'. She says 'we don't want any spot or preconditioning'. He says 'it's mandatory. And it's going to be .28 per sq foot after the 9.95'. My Mom says 'I told the lady on the phone I didn't want that and she said she would honor what was agreed upon over the phone'. The guy says 'no ma'am. You have to have preconditioning and if there are spots, I will spot treat'. She says 'cancel this appointment then because that's not what is advertised'. She hung up and called the lady at the Pelham office. My Mom told her what was said and the lady acted like she never said any of that to my Mom. She says 'we have to precondition and spot treat'. That's not what was on the ad at all. So..don't use a company that puts their prices on a coupon in the mail. Especially when they tell you one thing and plan on doing the opposite. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT and they will be reported to the BBB. read more

Arrived and started setting up equipment before they had a complete/final understanding of the job. Let me start by saying that our carpet was full of pet urine and was badly stained. After renting the Rug Doctor a couple of times and getting no results, I realized it was time to hire a professional. My initial call went to them in the morning and I was fortunate to get an afternoon appointment. About an hour later they called back to say the appointment before me cancelled and that they would be there a little before noon. This didn't give me much time to clean, so I did the best I could. Chris & Tommy arrived about 11:30am and after measuring the house and figuring out which pieces of furniture we could and couldn't move Tommy came up with a price in addition to my coupon from the paper. I opted for the pre-conditioning because our carpet needed it badly, in addition to the deodorizer and the Teflon coating (I know my cats will pee on it, so I figured why not, let's see what happens since it comes with an unconditional guarantee). I also added the tile cleaning for our kitchen/dining room and laundry room since they were able to get that done the same day as well. After we agreed on a price, they began spot cleaning the many ink, cola, mystery and urine spots on all of the accessible carpeted areas. As Tommy would finish a room, he would ask me to check it out and if I saw something needing extra attention (like a heavy traffic area) he would re-clean it - no problem. As they were cleaning, they would find earrings or other items and bring them to my immediate attention, which added credibility in my opinion. Some red stains came up easily and some didn't come up even after multiple treatments - that's just how it goes. Our tile grout is dark, or so we thought. After they cleaned it we found out it was much lighter than we thought. From start to finish, it took them both three hours. Once the cleaning was completed, I was very satisfied with the clean carpet and tile in addition to the fact I didn't smell cat urine anymore. If there was one thing that I would like for them to improve on is to at least have a placarded truck, as they showed up in a plain white truck with no markings on it. I will call on them again. read more

This company advertises all the time in my area, so I decided to give them a try since they APPEARED to be more reasonably priced than the company that I usually use and there was the convenience of online booking. Nevertheless, the online booking quoted a price of around $175. When the technicians arrived (in a mazda suv with no markings and no uniforms), the price jumped to $600+. When I said that the cost was more than the online price, I was told that the online prices were "starting" prices. Then, the technician attempted to charge me for an estimation fee, since he drove over 2 hours from MONTGOMERY, yet they advertised in BIRMINGHAM. I refused to pay and had them leave my home. Long story short...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! False advertising at it's worst...smh read more

We had coupons whole house $69.95 with pre treat at 28 cents per square foot. With dogs and a cat this was fine. My 80 year old mother was here and when finished gave a bill for $351.39, this was the owner by the way. Charged for deodorizer and Teflon guard. She told them she would not pay for unauthorized product. They settled for $142.94. These people are con men, quote one thing and ask for more. Never will call them again. Stanley Steamer offers a $99.00 special with pre treatment free. I'll use them next time, they do good work and are honest, should have never called Steam King! read more

My 93-year-old mother was lured in by their $12.95 per room offer. You and I both know that no one is going to come to your house and clean carpets for that amount...but she didn't. She also can't see the fine print. Long story short, instead of the $50 dollar cost she was expecting last week, she paid $188. This is a woman who lives on Social Security. I called the Steam King office manager several times to explain the situation and she just condescendingly said, "She signed the contract." Turns out, the fine print charges something like .28 cents per square foot. Somehow all that totalled $188? Doubt it, but I don't know what the contract actually says because she has failed to email me a copy. Just avoid this business. read more

I was quoted one price per the ad and charged four times that amount. This is a total scam. Do not use this company.

advertising whole house cleaning for $79.95. When they arrived I was told they couldn't do anything for $79.95 and the minimum would be $410.00. called another company, arrived the same day, got the stains out that Stanley Steamer couldn't, for $145 including tax. Do not waste your money. My online quote was for $112. When they came out it jumped to over $600, no lie. They cut a "deal" and charged right under $400 for my house. Beware of "bait & switch" with Steam King coupons! I booked online, for coupon $49.95 for 2 sofas, and $59.95 for 5 rooms - total about $160 + tax. Confirmation was quick, & I was called politely prior to their on time arrival. Bob informed us pretty quick the bill would be well over $500, and they would not clean without the pretreatment. Because we had already moved furniture, they did the work and did a good job, but I will use another company in the future. read more

Unfortunately, I did not read reviews before calling or fine print if there is fine print. I called the lady on phone said I would only have to pay online price 12.95 a room so basically $26 for my bedroom (lg) BUT if I wanted other types of add-on I could choose to do that. WATCH OUT FOR PRE-TREATMENT CHARGE .28 SQUARE FOOT Upon arrival, I was then given a price of $90 I didn't have that much so we finally agreed to $75...so disappointed that I was lied to. I don't know what the cleaning job looks like yet, still wet.. glad I went and got a towel for my hardwood floor because the water from the machine was everywhere. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!!! read more

Friendly guy but did not get all the stains out and I he said my carpet was only a 1 out 10 with 10 being the worst. Let water on the hardwood floors that I had to clean up and didn't suck all the water out of the carpet. Steam King and the technicians I encountered were ridiculous! I thought I "lucked up" and found a coupon for an upholstery cleaning of under $40. I called and asked what would be the total to add an additional piece of furniture (smaller than what I originally wanted clean). They told me the same price (under $40). I set an appointment and the range was THREE hours. They finally came 15 minutes before their 3rd hour time limit. We showed them the two pieces of furniture that needed to be done and they said it needed to be "pre-treated". This pre-treatment made my total OVER double of what they first quoted me. Of COURSE I declined, then they tried to "knock off 20 bucks". Still, the price was too high for me and then they finally offered us a "cash only" price. With this cash only price, I would NOT get a receipt, but I could "call" the technician's personal line if I was 'not satisfied'. The cash price was significantly cheaper, but they wanted an answer ASAP and I do not do pressure sales. Plus, I did not want a stranger in my home when the sun went down. I waited, what seemed like, all day for these people to come and when they do they try to sucker me into a ridiculous price. Another lesson in "what glitters isn't gold." I definitely will not waste my time calling these people and I hope no one gets suckered into their scam-- although this is a legit company, they are still scammers! I work in the business of giving quotes, but in no way should your actual price be DOUBLE + over your quote. I don't understand how these people are still in business. read more

These guys are definitely trying very hard to change the negative images that have been developed. They honored their price as a result of the warranty that was sold to us & went above and beyond. It was a very professional team and we will continue using them. read more

This is the worst carpet cleaning service I've ever used . I normally pride myself on checking reviews. If I had I would have taken my husband's advice and turned them away when they arrived changing the condition of the coupon.. They were late and receptionist lie and changed the time. My mistake I didn't get quote thinking they would honor the coupon. They were only to do carpets downstairs, one of the worker ended upstairs in my bathroom disposing of water making a mess. My husband picked up moved tables, large flowers, but missed one small trash can they cleaned around that small trash can leaving dirty carpet under around it. The room look like when you vacuum. They claim they do pre treatment stain removal that increase the cost 135.00. Don't let these rude bigots in your house. I will never use them again. Just as with other reviews (why by this time I don't check people out before calling), their flyer says 69.99 whole house. When I called, their message said to book the appt on their website. I had a coupon for $69.99 for 8 rooms. I agreed to pay $2 per stair. My total was supposed to be $96. Of course, when they came out, they said I had to have pre-treatment. I even agreed to have the protectant put on the carpet. It ended up costing $470!! In less than a week, I have had to have them back 2 more times to retreat, once with a de-browner, and my carpets now look much worse than before they ever came out. Their cleaner must have reacted badly to my carpet because it now looks like there was a dead body dragged around on it, bleeding profusely. The simple stain upstairs that they treated twice is now neon green/yellow instead of brown. It took forever to get him to call me back. He offered me $60 back. He later offered $125. While I am happy to get something back, that still means that I paid $345 to get carpets that look worse than before and 5-6 days of wet carpet. Please do not use them. read more
