It serves as a grand gateway to the heart of Florence bustling with locals and tourists, strategically positioned in the northwest corner of the historical center. Opened in 1935, it features a spacious entrance hall with a glass and steel roof. The station's main entrance leads directly to a large hall where tickets are purchased and information on several digital boards displaying train schedules prominently. There are 19 clearly marked platforms, and directional signs in multiple languages help guide passengers to their trains. The station houses several eateries, from quick snacks and coffee bars to sit-down restaurants. My partner, our friends, family member, and I waited here last Wednesday for our high-speed Italo train on our last leg to Rome. Andiamo!

It did not appear that large from the front of the terminal but after you have your tickets and start going through the platforms, you'll notice how large the station actually is. It's not overly complex and hard to navigate. It has multi levels downward-we went down two or three escalators to get to our platform for our train to Torin. Getting your tickets is easy: 1) you can purchase them on the app 2) the internet 3) and the machines inside the terminal. Since we took an intracity train, we did not see any entry kiosks to pay with your phone. We purchased our tickets online. Just check your departure time, get the platform number from the monitors, and proceed to the platform. After that, you will soon be on your train and off to your destination!!

And maybe it's unfair for me to compare this station to Verona, or Florence, or even Rome, but that's human nature, isn't it? While it has a lot of modern-looking finishes and several places for one to sit, on the day we were there the station gave off an overall vibe of dinginess and over-crowdedness. That "at capacity" feeling was at its worst that evening, when every bench, chair, open floor space was occupied by a human, waiting to find out where they should go to catch their train out. We were lucky to find an empty table at one of the cafes, after purchasing some drinks and snacks to tide us over for the evening. We weren't lucky enough to get seats with a view to the departures board, though, so we had to take turns walking over to the boards to see if our platform informaiton had been updated. And friends, I'm so glad we left as soon as the platform information populated because whooo, was it ever a trek from where we were to where we needed to be! I hadn't realized until that moment exactly how big a station Bologna Centrale was.

All you see is people struggling to go up and down 3-5 flights of steps I mean COME ON! Plus I know there are train bin changes spoken only in Italian which causes people to abruptly leave the current bin but for a non Italian speaker how the hell would they know grrrrr. Stazione di Pisa Centrale is a smaller train station and does not have the Pharmacia or coffee…read moreshops the train stations normally have. This one just has a couple vending machines, bus tickets & train ticket kiosks to purchase tickets from. Very close to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. About a 20 minute walk or if you take the bus, it is only a 8-10 min ride. There is also a closer train station to the Tower of Pisa that is only a 5 min walk. This station is a bit dated and older. It still does its job though. I was able to get on and off the train here just fine. When leaving to go back to Florence, originally it was supposed to be Platform 4, however, last minute got changed to Platform 10. We didn't know what was going on but lots of people who we waiting on the same platform with us starting running down the stairs and going to Platform 10. I feel like a screen stating the changes made in platforms for example would be great to have. Because, if we hadn't paid attention to where everyone went off to, we most likely would've missed this train to go back to Florence.

If you're heading to Siena, this is your stop…read more You'll find a little station with little to no amenities. I didn't see so much as a toilet seat here. It's outside of town, and I wouldn't recommend walking. Our group got lucky when we asked a taxi man how to get into town. He called a taxi for us, which you're apparently supposed to do because taxis don't sit at the station. Fortunately, the permitted cab came quick and delivered us to our hotel fairly quickly. It's one of those stations you just deal with for travel's sake. You're not going to have a picnic or shoot selfies here.
