There are some basic amenities here like a ticket stand, convenience store, and toilet. Prices into this station are thankfully cheap but expect the trains to get full fast and be fairly busy, especially on weekends.

Como is a pretty small city and I wouldn't mind staying a couple of days on our next trip to the area. I did see a train heading to Zurich from there as the northern area of Italy neighbors Switzerland. For a small town Como is pretty much swamped with visitors and with no airport the railway station is the main transportation hub. 4 star railway station that does the job close to the city which is very walkable.

[Just fyi, to reach the ferry, walk down the hill, take the steps to the right, walk toward the lake and turn left. You can't miss the ticket office. To visit Varenna (which is lovely) continue past the boat ramp, follow the waterside walkway and take a Contrada up to the main square or stay on the waterside to enjoy the shops and cafes there.] The train station is older and has 2 tracks. We take the regional train from Milan which returns on track#2. If you get to the station early there is a small indoor waiting area off the main platform with seats and arrivals board, or sit outside on the few benches available there. You could also enjoy a beverage in the bar but we aware: the bathroom, located in a separate building, is not a place for a lady. Bring your own TP and sanitary hand wipes and be prepared to hover. Honestly, the train bathroom is a better choice.

This train station is absolutely gorgeous, but it's also so easy to get lost within it. There is a…read morelack of signage and plenty of stores and underground levels. I had only been once before when I was a teenager and I wasn't doing the navigating. If you're arriving, it's an easy experience because you can hop off your train and get a nice bite to eat or explore shops. You can also easily hop on the metro to get to different spots in Milan. On our recent trip, we weren't leaving from this train station so it seemed a bit easier. The one frustrating part was trying to find a bathroom for my mom. The bathroom lines are long and an awkward €1.20. Besides this, I mostly enjoyed my time at this station. I loved looking at the large timetable of departing trains

We came by free bus using a pass from our hotel in Locarno. After touring the castle, relaxing…read moreoutdoors, and eating a fabulous lunch we saw we could return to Locarno by train midafternoon. The train station is easy to find and walk to. Train itself is clean and comfortable other than a bit hot. The station has public restrooms and vending machines as well as a COOP grocery store and some other stores on various levels.

This is where we arrived from and departed to Milan (and on Italian time). You can also go North and towards St. Moritz (yes Switzerland is close by). Tickets are best bought ahead of time and if you're short on these after arriving in Varenna, you can buy them at a Travel Agency (next to Albergo Beretta) a block away or Barilott further into town. As for in Town transportation, we walked here. It was a bit of a hike including some shared streets and a bit of an uphill at the end. For those not so athletically inclined, there's a taxi stand at the house next to the Station.

There are a couple of shops inside to get essentials or a snack/drink before getting on your train, and a Carrefour Express across the way for basic grocery essentials. The station is easy to follow, with the huge red posts being an iconic and instantly recognisable symbol of the station. Not too big, or exciting, but certainly does the job, even though it certainly can't compete with Milano Centrale. 3*
