Stazione di Pisa Centrale is a smaller train station and does not have the Pharmacia or coffee…read moreshops the train stations normally have. This one just has a couple vending machines, bus tickets & train ticket kiosks to purchase tickets from. Very close to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. About a 20 minute walk or if you take the bus, it is only a 8-10 min ride. There is also a closer train station to the Tower of Pisa that is only a 5 min walk. This station is a bit dated and older. It still does its job though. I was able to get on and off the train here just fine. When leaving to go back to Florence, originally it was supposed to be Platform 4, however, last minute got changed to Platform 10. We didn't know what was going on but lots of people who we waiting on the same platform with us starting running down the stairs and going to Platform 10. I feel like a screen stating the changes made in platforms for example would be great to have. Because, if we hadn't paid attention to where everyone went off to, we most likely would've missed this train to go back to Florence.

When I researched that hotel…read moreand how to get from it, via train to Venice and bought the tickets, I didn't think about using the Pisa train station. Turns out this train station is actually a little farther out of the way from Tirrenia than Pisa and once the train leaves, the first stop is in Pisa - So, if you need to go towards Firenze do yourself a favor and use Pisa's train station instead. As for this station, it looked decent, even though we got there at 4:30AM and there were homeless people sleeping all over inside it on the floor. It was a little scary being the only non-homeless people in there in the early morning darkness, something I probably wouldn't do again.

So we took a shuttle…read morebus from the ship to downtown, where we bought a bus ticket on the public bus and headed to Stazione di Livorno. There we boarded a train to Florence (about a 1 hour train ride) so we could spend a day in Florence! The train was really nice, clean, and comfortable. We were able to find a seat right away and were actually seated near one of the restrooms. We noticed a "cleaning gal" checked the restroom multiple times to make sure it was clean and stocked. We spent our day in Florence and then were able to take the train back to Stazione di Livorno. (There are several trains that go back and forth throughout the day.) We then had to take the public bus again back to downtown to board our shuttle back to the ship. Overall, it's a lot of moving pieces to get you to the train station, but not difficult! Well worth it!

It's a pretty dumpy little train station with no working elevators the day we were there. The…read moreticket machines seem super slow (and there is no ticket office) but it's very close to the Leaning Tower so it's a very useful station for tourists. It likely gets very lightly used by anyone that isn't a tourist. The only selling point is that it really is just a short walk from the Leaning Tower so it makes it a much easier day trip to visit Pisa via this station than Pisa Centrale on the other side of town.

This is a must see if you visit Montecatini! We knew it existed while we were staying in…read moreMontecatini, but we had a tour guide stress how much we should really experience it, so we luckily had an evening free to take the tram up to Montecatini Alto and have dinner. This was one of my favorite parts of our entire trip to Tuscany in the end. Such a cool way to get to the top and historically original! For 7.50€ round trip per person, it's a steal. Don't skip this if you're visiting Montecatini for sure. I'd give 10 stars if I could.

This funicular railway dates back to 1898 and carries passengers from Montecatini Terme up the hill…read moreto Montecatini Alto above, but is worth doing as an experience in itself, not jsut as a short cut upwards. The little red 'carriages' are the original (or at least look like it) with wooden benches to sit on inside or try to get an open one at the front or back, facing for a better view-if you are brave enough! The two carriages pass each other on parrallel 'tracks' at the half way point. The views as you travel are excellent and the old town of Montecatini Alto up the top makes a good place to stroll, with some panormic views, for a few hours before returning to the contrast of the grand spa buildings of the Terme below.
