Unfortunately, they demolished a gorgeous old building, which is typical of the city of Ede. I have yet to discover if they have also installed new bathrooms, always necessary when traveling, as sometimes you take more than two or three hours to get to your destination within Holland -- even with its excellent public transportation. Fortunately these days the trains are better equipped. Selfishly I would love to see an improvement at the station level as well. Parking is easy but a good five minute walk away. And free.

There are intercity trains and sprinter trains which are slower or quicker because of the number of stops I think. We needed the 11:13 train on platform 5a to Uitgeest. We were t hungry yet but if we had been, the station has multiple places to buy pastries or snacks for travel. We only had to wait on the platform for about 15 minutes. The seats were comfortable and had options for 2 together or 4 facing each other for families. The ride was very smooth with only 2 stops before ours. You tap out at the platform of arrival at a little tap screen about waist height there.

Such a bad boy. The year before I ran away to America, I went to stay with my Uncle in Holland for a second time. These were trips of a lifetime because I was a naughty boy and Holland was a naughty place. We'd buy rail passes (my brother and I), and would spend the days wandering around Holland. We went to The Hague, to Rotterdam, and to Amsterdam several times. Also Arnhem and Utrecht. The starting point was always Veenendaal, either the Central station, or this one in the West. My Uncle lived a similar distance from both of them. He now lives in Northern VA, but back in those days, he was in Holland, and we loved visiting him there. The trains in Holland were some of the best we'd ever experienced, and still are. This station is quiet, suburban, and perfectly safe for two little kids running around Holland with no adults watching them, doing things that kids would never expect to do. I've been back to Veenendaal and to this station as an adult and it seems so tiny now. That's what she said.

Even better: each platform has its own small kiosk, so you don't have to hike back to the main hall just to grab a coffee, snack, newspaper, or last-minute essentials before boarding. It's also a major international hub -- you'll see plenty of intercity and international trains heading to destinations across the Netherlands and beyond, which makes transfers pretty smooth if you're changing trains. It is convenient to their home (not a far walk). If you visit Leiden, it is close to the medical center and university. Tons of trains arrive and leave here, so we never had to wait for very long for the train we needed. Dutch trains are very much on time, unlike Germany! If you need a snack or drink, there's a small Albert Heijn and a Backwerk on the lower level, as well as kiosks on the platforms where the trains are. Toilets in the train station do cost so have some euros for that.

Bilthoven seems to be a fairly quiet village, part of the Utrecht municipality, and so it was a very small but busy railway station with only two platforms. I was there on a weekend, and the shop+cafe on the train station was closed. There were toilets, but they seemed to be locked. Entrance to the station was only thru one side, but there was a good number of turnstiles to enter/ exit. This was such an easy train station to navigate…read more Needed an easy way to get from Rotterdam to Paris. Booked a Eurostar train for an easy trip. Simply scan your ticket and go to the number two platform. Elevators and escalators available. Signage was clear. The ticket and tour office answered our questions. We had a great breakfast at our hotel, but lots of shops available if you need to pick up breakfast or a snack for an early morning train ride. Great way to travel from Rotterdam to the Paris Olympics on Eurostar.

It is easy to purchase tickets, and easy to find which platform your train leaves from. There is also a huge bike parking lot for those who want to park and ride. There are a few small shops on the platforms, and many coffee stands. Trains were on time, and no problems getting to my destination.

It's also in a good location in respect to the historic center of Nijmegen if you're coming on a day trip or visit. It's fairly clearly signed and walking distance to all the sights.
