This is a new train Station that just opened a couple years ago here in the Reeshof. It's great to…read morehave a train station so close to home that you can walk to in about fifteen minutes, but this one has issues. It's very new looking and clean with a good design, however, this station for some reason only has an automated machine that doesn't except credit cards or paper money. Therefore you either have to get an OV-Chipkaart and top up at another station or online before arriving OR carry a bucket load of change with you to purchase a ticket. If you haven't purchased a OV-Chipkaart previously OR only have credit cards and paper money you will find there is nothing else near by and you will have to return home and find another way to travel. If you do get caught out there is a bus stop down the stairs next to the road that goes to the city centre, but sure, it defeats the purpose of taking the train. Why any locality would put a train station in and then make it so difficult to pay for a ticket is beyond me, but that is exactly what they have done here.

As the town was a fortress at the time, the station born with attack in mind: a wood truss construction allowed to be dismantled or damaged with minimal waste. 1896, the original station was replaced with a large brick structure designed by Eduard Cuypers. Neo-Renaissance style, with a second floor for railway employees. 1944 than, during World War II caught fire and burnt down. Never rebuilt to its former glory. 1951, new life in a more modern way, designed by Sybold van Ravesteyn. Happy to be passed in the midst of history, see next time!

Platforms are clearly numbered and well marked, and the electronic displays make it easy to see exactly what's coming next without stress. What I really appreciate is how practical everything is. There are shops, food options, and services everywhere, from sit-down restaurants to quick takeaway spots. Even better: each platform has its own small kiosk, so you don't have to hike back to the main hall just to grab a coffee, snack, newspaper, or last-minute essentials before boarding. It's also a major international hub -- you'll see plenty of intercity and international trains heading to destinations across the Netherlands and beyond, which makes transfers pretty smooth if you're changing trains. Overall, Utrecht Centraal manages to be massive, modern, and efficient all at once -- not an easy combination. The one shop is "groundside" and yes, my ticket let me scan out and then back in a second time thankfully. The station is clean, well lit and needs more seating for waiting passengers. The cashier who initially served me provided great customer service, but her colleague was very abrupt, aggressive, and rude. When the system went down, I was unable to receive my train tickets. I also have a railway discount that I can only get at the ticket office. I was charged twice. When they first tried to give me a refund, I was charged again. When I brought this to the attention of the aggressive colleague, she did not seem convinced that I was telling the truth, even though there were transaction receipts nearby and one in my hand. When I asked if I could receive a discount at another station, the colleague became very aggressive, waving her hands in the air and telling me that she had told me everything I needed to know and that I wasn't listening. I replied calmly, asking her why she was shouting at me. She interrupted me again. I told her I didn't understand why she was talking to me this way. The aggressive staff member then said she had already explained herself and that I was not listening. She walked off. When I asked the original cashier my initial question about whether I could purchase a ticket at another station to receive a discount, she kindly explained that the system had gone down across the whole network, so I might not be able to buy another ticket at another station. I was not told the system had gone down, only that the tickets were not printing, which is why I inquired whether I could purchase another ticket from another station. When I first explained that I was charged twice, the reaction I got made it seem like I was lying, even though the transactions on my card were processed twice. The aggressive staff member needs further customer service training. She is very aggressive and has poor customer service skills. She failed to listen and acknowledge the issue and was very abrupt about the situation. I am a tourist visiting Eindhoven, and this type of customer service is not a good reflection on the culture of the station. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the staff member's name because it was not visible, and when I asked, staff members were not willing to provide it. I was also told there was no manager available to discuss further what had happened. The aggressive staff member was a white female with short hair and she wore glasses. This incident occurred between 14:35 and 14:50 on 26/07/24 at Terminal 3RLN64.

This was such an easy train station to navigate…read more Needed an easy way to get from Rotterdam to Paris. Booked a Eurostar train for an easy trip. Simply scan your ticket and go to the number two platform. Elevators and escalators available. Signage was clear. The ticket and tour office answered our questions. We had a great breakfast at our hotel, but lots of shops available if you need to pick up breakfast or a snack for an early morning train ride. Great way to travel from Rotterdam to the Paris Olympics on Eurostar.

It is convenient to their home (not a far walk). If you visit Leiden, it is close to the medical center and university. Tons of trains arrive and leave here, so we never had to wait for very long for the train we needed. Dutch trains are very much on time, unlike Germany! If you need a snack or drink, there's a small Albert Heijn and a Backwerk on the lower level, as well as kiosks on the platforms where the trains are. Toilets in the train station do cost so have some euros for that.
