The station personnel were friendly and the shops had a good selection of items to choose from. If you have time stop and take in the station as it's very nice.

The difference is that the other station isn't actually a through station where as this one is. Fortunately you can actually walk between them, and it doesn't take all that long to get there either. It's pretty new, mainly having been built for the high-speed rail, the one that goes to England and also the one between Amsterdam and Paris. This train station also has a bunch of shops and vending machines around in case you want some candy, drinks, magazines, or phone chargers before you hop on the train. For the most part, this train station does what it needs to do, it looks fairly nice, was kept pretty clean, and I have no real issues with it. The only thing I will say is that they definitely don't have enough seating around, lots of people holding lots of stuff wanting to sit down. Overall, Lille-Flandres Train Station is a pretty standard train station and serves the city of Lille just fine and most importantly, you can't beat the location right next to the mall.

With the TGV rushing straight onto Lille, it's less likely that they'll arrive by train these days, which is a pity, as it has a wonderful railway station. Constructed in 1903, it's a grand building, built in a classical French-chateau style in an attractive creamy-yellow stone. The central booking hall is two storeys high, with large windows and an impressive mansard roof, and is flanked by two symmetrical office buildings. It's an impressive monument, even if, up close, it is a little in need of repair. The station behind is a little disappointing after this initial grandeur, with three platforms, only one of which has a proper canopy. That said, it has all the facilities you'd need for a local journey, including a cafe, ticket windows and information office. There is parking in the square in front and a taxi rank. Situated on the north-east outskirts of the town (about a 15-minute walk from the centre), it's served by the regular and frequent Boulogne-Lille trains and the less frequent Calais-Arras services. Both are operated by the TER (Transport Express Régional) service of the Nord'Pas de Calais region, with new, double-decker electric trains.

However it is somewhat larger that some of the other stations that I passed on my journey. Getting too the platforms wasn't all that difficult as they did have some working elevators, and there was also a kiosk here for a quick snack, though heading across the road to one of the cafes there tends to be a better option (unless, of course, your are dedicated to sitting on the platform just to make sure you don't miss your train). It was okay, and certainly serves it's purpose, but not as practical as some of the more major ones.
