There are intercity trains and sprinter trains which are slower or quicker because of the number of stops I think. We needed the 11:13 train on platform 5a to Uitgeest. We were t hungry yet but if we had been, the station has multiple places to buy pastries or snacks for travel. We only had to wait on the platform for about 15 minutes. The seats were comfortable and had options for 2 together or 4 facing each other for families. The ride was very smooth with only 2 stops before ours. You tap out at the platform of arrival at a little tap screen about waist height there.

He was very helpful and friendly but they probably should have at least one other person working. They had a bakery here, a Starbucks, I saw a small market, of sorts, and another place called Julia. It is convenient to their home (not a far walk). If you visit Leiden, it is close to the medical center and university. Tons of trains arrive and leave here, so we never had to wait for very long for the train we needed. Dutch trains are very much on time, unlike Germany! If you need a snack or drink, there's a small Albert Heijn and a Backwerk on the lower level, as well as kiosks on the platforms where the trains are. Toilets in the train station do cost so have some euros for that.

The toilets are paid and not electronic. They tend to take your euros and the door still doesn't open, so be careful. There are some historic photos and murals on the walls. It's worth a trip from Amsterdam if visiting (All of Zandvoort that is). The train station is one reason I love Amsterdam so much, an easy 30 minute ride out to the ocean! From city to sand in 30 minutes for 3-5 euros. Love it. It gets REALLY REALLY crowded on hot days so be prepared. Not sure how they will handle it post-Covid. Trains are reduced capacity and I don't want to sit in a crowded, hot train with no ventilation with a bunch of strangers. Masks are required of course. I have never really seen any attendants working upstairs, inside, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. I usually don't walk through the main building, but take the stairs on the left. They have an OV Fiets (bike rental) on site. It's that little glass house and you need your OV card to get into the house and then work the kiosk. You will need to know some Dutch to work these kiosks. It's the only game in town in Zandvoort as far as the trains are concerned so either use it or take a bike or car back to Amsterdam or Haarlem. Sometimes the building is not even open and you have to walk up the side steps and the last time I was inside, the store space was under utilized. There is a ticket office onsite, along with a separate ticket kiosk outside of the ticket office. There is one fast food restaurant right when you enter the station, and a small coffee/snack/newspaper shop by the ticket office. (They do make a good cappuccino to take away.) You must take the stairs to the train platform, which was a bit difficult, if you have luggage to carry, with all the people hurrying to catch the train. I didn't see an elevator. There are a few seats that are surrounded by glass for those that want to get out of the rain, or wind waiting for the train. Also, a separate area for those that smoked. I was pleasantly surprised to see that not that many people were smoking at the train stations, compared to other countries that I have visited.
