Sunday night we called the Fire Department because our backyard was so flooded we worried it would…read moreget worse and enter the house. The firemen arrived within minutes and assessed our situation. They first told us we had another 12-16 inches to go before it was a big threat, and we could probably make it through the night. Then, after watching me try to get my hose to work as a siphon to help drain the water, they realized, we probably wouldn't sleep that night unless we figured out a way to lower the water level. Sure enough, they left, only to return about 5 minutes later with a sump pump for us to use through the night. Not only were we really grateful they came on such short notice- but we were even more grateful they were so willing to go above and beyond to help us feel safe. I slept that night... not well, but I did manage to sleep, thanks to our Fire Station #15! I have never been the type to call on the police or fire dept. unless it's a real emergency, and seeing that this could have been a way worse situation- we were really happy to know our fire dept. came through for us. It's nice to know these guys are just down the street from us, in case a REAL emergency happens one day. I should hope I never have to call them again, but if I do, I am certain they'll come through for us again! We love our Fire Department!!!

Last Tuesday, my father fell into a liver coma and they were prompt and professional in responding and tending to him, as well as compassionate and thorough in their questions and gathering information which I know is inpart to me, but kudos to them. They thoroughly searched our unit for everything in question. I am happy to say that thanks to them and the peramedics, he is doing well, has regained consciousness, and is definitely on the road to recovery with everything under control. Thanks again guys.!

We had a little excitement at the house a few days ago when my wife, suffering from severe stomach…read morepain that later turned out to be appendicitis, started hyperventilating. Scary stuff. Well, this led to my first 911 call... and I must say that I came away very impressed with the RWC Fire Department. Why, you might ask? Three reasons: 1. These guys moved fast. I heard the truck's siren coming our way while I was literally still on the phone with the 911 operator. Definitely not more than 90 seconds since I'd placed the call. 2. They knew what they were doing. In addition to several fire fighters who are presumably great at batting flames, they had a paramedic in tow who quickly diagnosed our hyperventilation, administered oxygen and had my wife back into stable, talking condition. 3. They were good folks. When my two year old got out of bed and expressed understandable concern about both his mother and the surrounding chaos, one of the firemen brought him out to look at the truck and left him with one of those plastic fire helmets as a souvenir. My wife did end up getting an appendectomy and recovered amazingly fast, so the story ends well. And most relevant to this review, I came away feeling both heartfelt thanks towards these men of the Redwood City Fire Department... and that I've never been more pleased with how my tax dollars are being spent. Hopefully you'll never have need of these services, but it sure is nice to know they're there.

Especially Christy who is the head of the CERT training. She is knowledgeable and shares that knowledge freely with people. We even got to see quite a few firemen coming down the poles. Woo hoo! :-) I've gained a lot of respect for these people and what they do each day. Thank you RCFD...you guys are great!

Took a CPR certification class here. The class is $40 for Burlingame residents and $50 for…read morenon-residents. I thought the class was going to be 3 hours of boredom but Joe was a great instructor. He kept us awake with funny stories and jokes. Even though it was his third class of the day and he was too tired to stand, he was still energetic and funny enough to keep us awake and attentive. You can really tell that they are providing this class to HELP the community, not for a profit. It's about half the cost of what I've found elsewhere. Also, if you take the class and ever want a 10 minute refresher, Joe offers free touch-ups. He told us that most heart attacks happen in the home, so $40 to save the life of a family member seems like a great deal to me.

There are times that her body succumbs to the complications and we require immediate assistance. The crew of three arrived promptly and were all very professional, courteous and treated us both with respect. My wife has collapsed veins from years of treatment and Ryan was able to become a "sharpshooter" and gain her IV access on the first try!! That is an impossible task that he did with good skill. The ambulance arrived and took her to the hospital, and we want to thank all the personnel for treating us so well. As a family member, it is the worse position to see your loved one suffer. When you know they are in good hands, you can breathe easier knowing good help is right at hand.. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH, Our community is very lucky to have such dedicated and professional first responders.

This falls in the "I never thought it would happen to me" category…read more Due to ski injuries, I have bad hips. Last week, I had hip revision surgery. The surgeon was so great that I've been up and around ever since. Meaning, I ignored all instructions to be conservative with movement. I paid the price for my ignorance. Today, I took my garbage can out to the curb. Tonight, I went out to retrieve it. Unfortunately, I tripped on my garage entrance, and fell on my knees. Thank the stars for cell phones. I called 911, and they quickly sent a crew of three men to my home. They got me up on my feet quickly, and helped me into my house. Very helpful, concerned, and professional. We've all seen the "I've fallen, and I can't get up ad." Dammit, now I'm in that bucket. These guys deserve 10 stars.

This was the nearest office for me at the time. I have learned my lesson to call the police at the time of the accident and to take many pictures and video of my interaction with the other party driving. A rear dash cam would have been helpful as well. In the panic of the accident, I also forgot to demand to see her drivers license even though I offered mine. She said she didn't have her auto insurance card. People are often not honest, cooperative, or responsible. Fortunately, I took a few identifying pics of her and her car and had her cell number. This Redwood City CHP office forwarded my report to the Oakland CHP office. Redwood City said to wait 7 or 8 business days before following up with Oakland.

They have paved paths for walking, a Japanese garden and rose garden, tennis courts, restrooms, and a jungle gym for kids. While I was there yesterday, the park was bustling since there was an event going on near the Japanese garden. If you go on Saturday, I believe 12-3pm, they have a plant sale. If you're planning to eat lunch like me and my friends, there are lots of benches and picnic tables, or you can even eat on the lawn. There are several metered parking spots on the street or you can park in one of their paid parking garages. If you don't want to pay for parking, there is free street parking farther out.
