Unless you are rich enough to afford the school on your own I don't recommend this school. As a child on a scholarship they treat you worse then all the other kids. The school only cares about you when you want to transfer out of the school, since then they won't get your money once your out. Only tried to take care of the bullying issue I had once I went to transfer out. As if I one of the teacher's didn't bully me. Mr. Albanese is his name. Picked me out of the rest of the class to make fun of and embarrass. I skipped his class most of the time because of it. Made me feel more unsafe in the school. You would think a school causing thousands of dollars a year would have trustworthy and helping adults. Now lets dive in to detentions, you can get a detention for any little thing. Being a minute late to class, chewing gum, drinking water in the classroom, sending a email during class, and my personal favorite being in the bathroom (they can think your doing something suspicious when your not). How wonderful is that and they can keep you until 8:00 pm. Now I completely understand them not wanting your phones out during school, however lets say you break that rule for some reason they make you sign a handbook which along the lines say they can keep your phone for THREE DAYS, how crazy is that they will take your personal property away. Ms. Bulone is a geometry teacher, not a bad one I must add, however she picks on students to embarrass every lesson (I was not one of those students but I watched it happen) she only had one favorite in the class I was in, but it was very obvious and definitely pointed out. I only had two teachers I could actually talk too. Which was Mr. Mackey and Mr. Hoefner, they were very good teachers and they made it easier to talk to when things were bad. And Mr. Hoefner helped when the bullying wasn't good. Mr. Mackey I spoke too when something personally bad happened to me and he gave me good advice to get past it. If you do let your child go to this school Mr. Turner is a great music and art teacher and will teach you everything. But with all of this I still do not recommend going to this school. Check in with the realties of the school before just listening to the lies the school feeds you.

The school really focuses on the children's development and my child comes home talking about different planets! The school environment is unbelievably welcoming to both students and parents and we both felt at home there immediately. Parents are invited into the classroom (for entire class sessions!) regularly to share the school full experience with their children--there is absolutely nothing to hide at CHMS! The entire school is immaculate and gorgeous--classrooms are spacious with tons of natural light streaming in and they feature the children's artwork everywhere you turn. Also, the children have weekly yoga and music classes in addition to art! The teachers at Children's Harbor are all Montessori trained and go the extra mile on a daily basis; they do a wonderful job creating a child-centered atmosphere that really makes students look forward to each school day (even my daughter who was not at all the type to want to go to school in her two years of preschool before attending CHMS), and they individualize the work so that each child moves at his/her own pace and on the appropriate level. The students learn through play--just the way they should at this age. I truly feel that this makes the children really soar! My daughter's teacher takes her personality into account when working with her and this makes all the difference. My daughter didn't have much of an interest in letters at the start of the school year, but now she has mastered them and is reading and writing beautifully. I'm astounded! I really can't believe that she is getting a true Montessori education for FREE because they offer UPK (now known as "Pre-K for all"). I am a teacher and have taught UPK at both private and public schools and have worked at a local college as a supervisor of early childhood student teachers in many different pre-k classrooms. These experiences have allowed me the unique opportunity to gain an insider's perspective on pre-k, and I can honestly say from experience that Children's Harbor really stands out among Staten Island preschools. It's a bit of a drive for us, but I don't mind it all all because I am so confident that my daughter is getting the best pre-k education possible and that this experience will have long-term positive effects on her attitude toward education. Children's Harbor Montessori School is a true gem!

I would say around 20 now and my outside family members have emailed and called multiple times to try to get my transcripts and she has failed every single time in emailing them and mailing them or doing anything every single time I'm on the phone with her. She doesn't know how to communicate or be organized. she can't even remember basic things like my first name when just told her it at the beginning of every single phone call.

I was also impressed by their approach to tackling the bi-lingual aspect and teaching the same curriculum in the morning in English and in the afternoon in Spanish or French, which helps them avoid mixing and confusing the two languages. My son was in the Spanish-English track and picked up so much of the Spanish in such a short period. I love how warm and inviting the space is and how extensive the resources are. It feels like nothing is lacking, and the kids have access to all of what Montessori offers. Atelier de la casa is also makes a point to take the kids to the local playground when weather permits, which was very important to me since I don't want my son to be confined to one space and a backyard for a full day. We are taking a short break for family reasons are the moment but can't wait to have Neo rejoin in a couple of months.
