Not sure if this is the place to write this, but NEVER buy a salvage car in Massachusetts. If you do, you'll have to eventually deal with a salvage inspection at the State Police barracks in Haverhill. Some guys are paid to wait in line for used car dealers, it's not their vehicles, time or money, so it's just a job to them. But, for the average guy that has to deal with it directly, it's a legitimate nightmare.
Personally, I have no issue with police or law enforcement. I've know and worked with many cops, most...most were honest folks just trying to help out. But God, these two (at the Barracks) were just awful. It got so bad that I had to write to their supervisor to find out what I had to do to get rolling. Oddly enough, I passed shortly after speaking with him (who was quite nice, by the way). Yes, I made a tactical error by getting a salvage car, but I never knew I had to pay the price by suddenly being intimidated by a sneering black dude, towering over you, spitting orders like I was a common criminal. Add to the fact that it's all done out of sight of the public (it's some kind of hanger) eye. Bring someone with you as a precaution. It was like a scene out of Cruising.
But anyway, lesson learned. Thanks to all the good officers that are out there in the deep of it. The bully ones are slowly learning that society has no use for them. read more
