And the co-working movement hits the North Shore. It was inevitable, really. Even an enclave of village-y feel and dyed-in-the-wool private-school and lunching-mum conservatism like the North Shore had to bow to the new world order eventually. There's a great setup here, from open plan work hall to private meeting rooms and the world's biggest bean bag for when it all gets too much and you just need to sink into cushy oblivion for a Pomodoro-approved 20 minutes or so. As Tim mentioned there's an abundance of events, many of which feature that staple of the startup community: free beer. read more
StartNest was quite cool, and looks like a really useful resource for those trying to get a business idea off the ground. While I am not in a startup, I had the opportunity to work from the StartNest office for a couple of days. It's easy to get to in central Crows Nest, is large, looks good, and has a range of spaces (desks, breakout rooms with privacy, tables with stools, sofa, etc). It's clean, spacious, relaxed, and professional-feeling. While there are several groups of people working on their own projects it's not a noisy place: it's easy to get your work done, though no one seems bothered if you interrupt them, say hi, and ask what they're working on. Best of all, the organisers seem to have regular events on: speakers who have gotten their own enterprises off the ground, or expert advise on related topics. Most of us need engagement and interaction from time to time, and two heads are always better than one. StartNest feels like a good place for tech startup folks to make this happen. read more
