The bread here is excellent. Great crust, great structure and chewiness on the inside. I believe they proof for longer at a cooler temperature, and the inside is magical. It takes a loaf like this to make you appreciate the art of baking.
If you search for bread/pastries in the Wellington area, Wellington Sourdough also pops up, very close to Starta, but they're the same operation. We actually started out looking for WS but couldn't find it!
The co-owner is a very friendly guy and seems to know most of the customers. He even gave us some tips for the Coromandel. Matt, if you're reading this, we didn't make it to New Chums, but will hit it the next time! We got "stuck" in Hot Water for a couple of days. read more
