That's how I ended up in here on Monday with a small fruit salad and a bottle of water that cost me over £4 (how?!). The staff were pleasant and it must have been approaching closing time as they were militantly cleaning up around the people still in here. They have wifi, they have seats and it's clean. They have toilets, these were also clean. I generally like the food at Eat although I only choose to eat here if there's nothing else around or I'm in a hurry. I always choose Eat at Glasgow Airport as it's the best of a bad selection but in Glasgow City Centre there's other places I'd rather walk to for lunch. This branch is close-by to quite a few other chains and they tend to be filled with tourists and people grabbing lunch. At least it was quieter around 5pm. I won't be rushing back though.

The soups are offered in different sizes which is a good idea if you just want a small bowl to accompany a large sandwich (or large bowl/smaller sandwich). Different breads available as well and everything so fresh a few vegetarian and even vegan options too. The coffees are lovely and the cakes look delicious (we didn't try any on that occasion!). The tables are small and square and stand on a wooden floor. There are no plates the soup is served in a bowl but the sandwiches come wrapped on a tray. The staff are cheerful and friendly and there are enough of them behind the counter to mean that there was scarcely any queue. Found in the pedestrianised area close to the Buchanan Galleries shopping mall and opposite Schuh.

Notes The city canteen has been here for a while now and based in the building where the business bread and butter also operate. I'm sure this is aimed more for office workers and passers by basically anyone looking for a cheap lunch. Food There is a choice of eight items to choose from some home made and well the rest is for sure frozen. Choices are Fish & chips, steak pie, macaroni, curry, lasagne, or jacket potato with various fillings and choice from salad bar. I chose to have the steak pie and it tasted better than most places in Glasgow charging twice the price downsides where that the plates where not even warm. Price You get a pretty good deal £6 for a hot meal & soft drink. Downsides are the selection of drinks available being only Coke, Diet Coke, lemonade, or cordial. Overall good choices available definitely a meal deal.

Today was the first time I knew they were doing this. It's just like school dinners. That's cool. And for £6 for dinner and salad, I can't argue. I had the steak pie. It was tender, but maybe sauce needs to be thickened as it was watery. Apart from that. I'd say, come along and enjoy. £6 guys. But you can't get Irn bru as a drink

To be honest, I've walked passed the alley that has signs on it for Bread + Butter and Chippy Doon…read morethe Lane but have never ventured down in to either. Well, this has all changed. My boyfriend and two of our friends enjoyed a day at a sneaker (yes, it was called a sneaker festival, not a trainer festival) in Finneston when we decided to venture in to the city for some drinks. Well, they drank, I had water, as I'm currently off the booze for health reasons. Anyway, we were looking for anyplace really that had seating and after trying a few of our normal haunts, we decided to check to see if we could get a seat here. Voila! We could! The catch was that the massive table we were able to score had to be back in a few hours time, which was fine by us. What an interesting concept this place. It's part cafeteria, part bar, part sports pub, part party hall. It really is a massive place with not a single style to call it's own, rather a few mixed in. Loads of family sized wooden tables and benches to sit at, as well as cozy chairs, stool and mini tables. A mixed crowd of kids (yes, kids), families, groups of women and men, and of course us. Three dudes and me. Ha! The lot of us really don't understand why pubs/bars are starting to cater to having kids in among all the drinking and the booze but I digress... The guys decided they were going to partake in the cocktails they had on their list. Mai-thai, and a DeNiro. The Mai-thai, they said was pretty boozy but good and the DeNiro was really sweet. The DeNiro was Jack Daniels, vanilla essence, coke and a piece of orange. They all agreed, instead of an orange, it would have been better with a cherry. I enjoyed my water just fine (boo!!)- but the waiter didn't seemed pleased about serving it. He basically threw it on the table, not even asking who may have ordered it. On top of that, even though I asked for a lemon, it came barely with any ice and no lemon. Oh well. Anyway, I think this could be a place to bring the girls back for a night out. The guys I was with weren't too keen on the music being like in a club and it just wasn't their style. The drinks are a bit pricey, but for one or two, it's ok.

The pizzas are a bit cheese heavy, (and that's coming from a cheese lover) and topping light, but for a tenner for 2 I won't complain. The base is thin and crispy, and always perfectly cooked. Service was fairly quick, and there's plenty of space and seating. I wouldn't choose it for a meal or evening out, but for an after work drink and munch it does the job.

We chose the Redcoat Café because they had several items on offer, and it seemed more casual than the table-service restaurant across the compound. As you walk in, you're face-to-face with several different options, but directly in front of the door sits the sweets bar. Devious placement on their part, and it totally worked on me. I went in seeking savory nourishment, and walked to my table with a piece of cake added on. Figures. The café offers both grab-and-go cold sandwich offerings and hot entrées. We went with the hot entrée - a haggis, neeps and tatties pie, which was served with fries and potatoes (overload on starch, lemme tell ya!) The dining area is quite large, so we had no issues finding a table. At that time, though, all the "good" tables - the ones with the spectacular views of the city - were all taken. Oh - tip! If you want water with your meal, and don't mind tap, don't buy bottled. They have a pitcher of tap water and a bucket of ice on a table near the silverware, which you can get for free. The food was pretty good, though very filling. I wasn't kidding when I said the meal we decided on was starch overload - we had potatoes three ways. But, it was filling, it stuck to our ribs and it gave us energy to finish out the day at the castle.

The baps were so dry we couldn't chew the bread. Not suitable for adults let alone kids. There was a seagull nearby, she enjoyed some of the bread so not all was lost :)

So, I've been in here a number of times, usually partially guttered upon entry and entirely so whenever I pour out. The thing to point out about this place is not the drinks (the usual generic mince), not the music (cheesy poppy, nowt to write home about) or the decor (think student flat turned into a club), it's mostly that this places appears to have a partial cloaking device which hides it from a large percentage of the fannies who frequent clubs on a Saturday night. Ok so you're not going to be able to avoid all the numpties, but in comparison to them there clubs on the street of Sauchiehall, this place is relatively fanny free. I did however have to whip out my 'I'm a Dad, you will behave in a proper manner young man' to a dude who tricked his way past me in the queue to the bar. The poor chap felt bad and ended up buying me two cans of Red Stripe... after that I wasn't angry or just disappointed in him. Aye. Hidden. Still cool. Sticky.

We entered The Buff Club and we were honestly a bit disappointed when we found the only people in there were a group of guys. It felt like social dancing back at school where no one actually got up to dance. It was the first time any of us had actually been to Buff Club. I discovered a staircase which I then found took us down to The Butterfly and Pig where there was a brilliant Jazz/soul/swing type outfit on and the place was bouncing! After they had finished up we went again to The Buff Club and the place was starting fill up and it was looking promising, we were busting a move, and then we discovered ANOTHER floor, and the tunes were brilliant. Stevie Wonder, Aretha Frankin and Tina Turner! Brilliant! The atmosphere was brilliant, everyone was so friendly and the place was just full of people who wanted to dance to some decent tunes. Drinks were quite expensive, but I suppose that's the price you pay for free entry and £1 drinks every other night of the week. I thoroughly enjoyed The Buff Club and I imagine I'll be there again in the very near future.
