So, its a Starbucks, that should be that, right? Wrong. More on why its so great in later paragraphs. This review must first start with the fact that before I moved out of America, I hated Starbucks. I. HATED. STARBUCKS. Now, don't get me wrong, I loved what Starbucks was before it became Starbucks. You know what I mean? I liked the little shop from Seattle that served coffee to regulars and started 'movements' in the community. These are the things I like, the little cafe, the family owned coffee place, not the huge corporate conglomerate. When I lived in NYC, there were actually Starbucks across the street from each other - CRAZY.
Anyway, about the Starbucks at Hauptstrasse 137 (yes, believe it or not, there is another Starbucks down the strasse! If you close one, Starbucks God, please let it be that one and not my beloved 137!), I like it because it feels like a local coffee place. I feel comfortable there. I can order my wants in my best Deutschglish (like Spanglish only with German) and they get me. They serve the coffee in mugs and the muffins on plates if you are staying (to go orders still get paper or plastic). They have a lending library in the corner where you can pick up a book and read it while you're there. You put it back before you leave but then its there, waiting for you when you return.
I even like the little things, like the fact that they've turned the receipt printer around to face me, the customer. If I want my receipt, its there for the taking. If I don't, they take it off and throw it away for me. These are the things that make me like Starbucks again! Thank you, baristas of Hauptstrasse 137, thank you! read more
