Star Bar is a very average bar/night club in the Sydney CBD. It has pool tables down stairs and a pretty average night club up stairs. It is usually full of just turned 18 year olds and I don't know about you but I find these people insufferable! The drinks are cheap, hence the youngsters and the food is average.

Star Bar is one of those places you would probably walk past without looking twice. They usually have someone outside with a placard to try and tempt you in to buy what specials they got for the day. The downstairs is basic with a little outdoor area and a pool table. Upstairs has gotten a refurbishment in the past year and a new bistro menu. It's spacious and large upstairs with a dance floor. The menu begins with prices of about $10. Today I opted to try the $10 burger. I opted for the Swiss Moo burger. The burger was an Angus beef patty with cheese and caramelised onions on a brioche bun. The burger took 15 minutes to come out which was too long considering the place was pretty empty. The burger was very nice I will give it that. The BBQ sauce added to the combo and the bun was fresh. Service in this place used to be a lot quicker and the menu offered more specials.

Probably better as a cheap no cover charge nightclub on a Saturday night as opposed to a place you would want to have lunch at; well it depends on you. Good quality food and great service; however it might be more preferable to head to nearby Darling Harbour or Chinatown as this side of the city has a lot of cheap quality food outlets as it is. On the nightclub side, great cheap drinks; they don't put too much ice in the midori lemonade's thank goodness, and it is great to have a few games of pool with complete strangers and make good company if you are game enough to do this here. And their restrooms are quite clean, and there generally aren't any issues here. People are well behaved and their security guards appear to be switched on and on the ball in case any issues arise. Otherwise this establishment (formerly Planet Hollywood) does not have the wow factor, although a great cheap hang out spot if you want to go out and save at the same time. Think young people and uni students. Great service, however you can also do a lot better on the nightclub front too in nearby Darling Harbour: Clue: home for instance.

Chances are if you're of legal drinking age, you've been told to check in on this place for a few rounds of pre-drinks. Star Bar is usually the place you want to go to if you're pinching at the insides of your pockets, the drinks are THAT cheap. This place is pretty casual for these kinds of get-togethers so don't be surprised if this forms the beginning of a pub crawl or two. Downstairs has a nice lounging area for groups, with pool tables and flat screen TV's dotted around the place that make you forget about how dark it's getting outside. Good thing is if you do happen to overdo it on the pre's, you can always stumble easily enough to Town Hall station which is right across the road. (No I do not want to be charged for reckless endangerment of people that cross the road stupidly, so cross where you're supposed to!)

I came here for lunch on the 9th September, ordered the mushroom risotto, what I received was closer to Congee than risotto, watery & tastes mushroom & chicken stock, as a vegetarian I thought they would at least use vegetable stock making a vegetarian risotto, they're lucky to get a 3 from me, the recipe needs cream & white wine, quite disappointing.

Been to the Star Bar several times and have never been disappointed. Their cocktails are incredible and their food is reasonably priced and a consistently good quality. Notable mentions are the pork and parmeson meatballs with tooasted ciabatta and the sour apple martinis. Recently I ordered and pai d fornthe scotch fillet steak however realised it was actually the sirloin I received but I was too hungry and lazy to send it back so I can't really complain.

Although you can come here for party but personally I like this place because of their great rump stake , $12 it and you get a fresh lean rump stack with the best paper sauce, I know here for 8 years and the quality is still the same .

Couldn't get shots because Sydney's (dumb) lockout rules but still turnt up with mixed drinks
    Sanjev R.

Went here with my cousins back in November 2016. It's a decent spot but I had no idea Sydney has some stupid lockout rules so by law we couldn't get shots after 12 am. I went up to order a round of tequila shots for my cousin and our group and it was 11:57 pm on her phone but the bartender refused to pour the shots so we got mixed drinks instead.

Being close to where I used to work, I'd frequent this place quite a bit, and before it was a PJs it was a mates fave city pub so we'd catch up over a few here from time to time. There's a pretty good mix of people in the street-level bar, and PJs have converted it into more of a sports bar so there are plenty of screens for the sports nuts to check out their favourite teams prospects. PJs typically have pretty good fare. In winter they have two absolute cracking dishes. The Guiness Pie with mushy peas, and their signature lamb shanks which is totally unctuous. Why such a modest score? Price kills the place. It's not one of the cheaper places to get a beer as someone incorrectly states in their tips, it's easily one of the most expensive places to get a beer. You're paying over the top prices for domestic tap beer. A cheap beer is $5 for a Coopers Pale Ale, which you can get on the same street about 200m up the road... Also... As much as I enjoy a good pokie section, this one ain't good. And by that I mean the clientelle. It brings in the undesireable types, and sours what is otherwise a sweet pub. The snug, the downstairs den, has a great looking bar, and "snug" seating, but it's kinda pointless down there. It doesn't feel snug, it feels stuffy and claustrophobic - and the bar has never been manned when I've been down there. Now, if they moved the pokies to the snug, and then opened up the entire bar at the street-level to include the room vacated by the pokie section, you'd have something. But why would they do that when they can get by with what they have.

Being in the city, it can get quite busy very quickly and is a decently sized basement multi-storied pub. TV screens are usually are usually playing Fox sports or something similar. I order the Parmy, just to be on the the safe side. I wasn't too game to try the Pie which is supposed to be one of the best (as judged by Irish people I work with) around. The food is carefully prepared and you can tell the produce is quality and they've cooked it properly which some pubs sometimes struggle to do consistently... The chips were the standout side, crisp and crunchy! Definitely will be trying the stew or pie, that is if I'm brave enough to.
