As it turns out I was very lucky. I ended up needing a new AC unit - mine was 20 years old and had several issues. The technicians that came out were courteous, explained everything thoroughly, and showed me various reasonable options/brands, or possibly replacing parts instead of replacing system. They gave me a portable AC to get me through and then, 2 days later, the new HVAC was installed and is working beautifully. The installation team arrived early and on time, kept me informed throughout, showed me the finished product, told me everything I needed to know to operate and maintain it.
