I was a little anxious in the morning and on the way to the hospital, but as soon I saw Dr. Knoll I knew I was going to be fine -- and he even had me in stitches before I was even under the knife. I was very comfortable and confident with Dr. Knoll from my first interaction with him. He was listed on the Washingtonian Magazine Top Doc Award list in 2008 for general surgery (one of five docs selected). I am not about to go try the other 4, but in my mind he would be really hard to beat. He is a wonderful doctor and surgeon and an extremely nice, caring and funny person. He took amazing care of me -- and all of his staff were wonderful as well. I can't imagine you would do any better if you ever find yourself in need of a surgeon.

He performed a total thyroidectomy on me a few years back and did an absolutely stellar job. He's done this procedure hundreds (if not thousands) of times, so you're in great hands if you need to have this procedure done. Even the scar healed nicely--and is only noticeable by others that have had the procedure. ;-) He also provides wonderful follow-up care. He's friendly, easy to talk to/joke with, and has a very good bedside manner. One thing that I dislike about this office is the fact that they don't call you the day before your appointment to remind you as a courtesy. I've asked the staff why they don't do this and they claim they simply don't have the manpower to do this. The staff seems as though they're overworked at times and may come across as cranky. Though, to their credit, they've never made an error in my billing or appointment scheduling, so they have that going for them. ;-)

I saw an orthopedic surgeon who took some x-rays and told me that I have small extra ribs in my neck (cervical ribs) and that I would need surgery to remove them to relieve my symptoms. Another health provider referred me to Dr. Fish. He agreed that I have cervical ribs but they were not the main problem. Dr. Fish said that the problem is mostly muscular and related to my work. All of the muscles in my neck, upper back, shoulders and arms had been overworked for a long time and now what I have what Dr. Fish called"Thoracic Outlet Syndrome". Basically the muscles in my neck and arms are so tight that they are affecting my nerves. Dr. Fish treated me with very deep (and sometimes painful) muscle work, ultra sound, electrode stimulation and dry needling. After a few months of weekly sessions my symptoms were gone. No surgery, and if I start to ache again Dr. Fish quickly treats and relieves the pain so I can do the job I love.

He's caring and well-informed about the latest research since we hope to fix the problem rather than just manage the pain. His PA, Deb, is amazing as well. She treated my spouse with respect and caring from the initial visit. They take the time you need and are truly dedicated to easing chronic pain. They've been responsive in urgent situations and work to find the right combination of treatments. The only thing we wish was better was the average wait times although yesterday we were seen immediately. But we'd rather wait longer to get the time we need.

On Thursday December 24th I had an appointment with Dr. Balint for the second time. After waiting…read morein the reception area, I was called by one of the nurses I guess who works there (an Asian Lady, no disrespect I do not know the name). She responded my greeting by a quick and dry hello (no smile whatsoever) and placed me in one of the rooms and left the room by saying Dr. Balint will be with you shortly. She did not asked any questions about how I was doing, also didn't even bother to check my blood pressure. Please keep in mind that I am a diabetic patient with high blood pressure. I waited for a long time in the other room and finally Dr. Balint came to the room. No handshake or warm greeting, didn't even bother to ask how I felt after receiving the first injection. After briefly sharing his opinion in regards to my latest MRI, invited me to the room that I would receive my second set of injections. Once again I bumped into the same nurse. For some unknown reason I had trouble walking and felt so weak in my both legs. They were both shaking and had trouble carrying my weight. The nurse didn't ask if I am ok knowing that was not my normal walk. Did not offer any help and just asked me to lay down on the bed and get ready for the injection. Shortly after that Dr. Balint with another lady walked into the room and started prepping me for the injections. These time both injections were extremely painful to the point that I couldn't stop crying and had trouble catching my breath while trying my best not to move. The entire time three of them were having a conversation about some event and once in awhile Dr. Balint was giving a short explanation about my injection. Not even once one of them asked me if I am ok and did not bother to check on me. Even after the injection was over all Dr. Balint said was he needs to do the next session within a month and left the room. Did not even to bother to say bye or ask me if I am ok (keep in mind that my tears were still coming down due to the pain as well as getting emotional due to being extremely upset for being treated so poorly). After Dr. Balint left the room once again I was alone with the same Asian nurse trying to get dressed and again no words whatsoever. Once again she didn't bother to ask if I am ok. I was so upset and disappointed with my experience that I could not wait to leave the office. Usually patient suppose to wait 20 minutes after the shot at the office in case of any reaction. I could not even do that. I had to leave and for sure I will never return back to that place. Is this the way a patient should be treated by the doctor or the other care giver at the doctor office? What has happened to customer service? Was I wrong to get so upset. Please keep in mind that as soon as I got home I had to check my blood pressure and my blood pressure was 160 over 98 which was extremely high. Anytime I went to any doctor's office or any clinic they always first check patient's blood pressure, don't you think the nurse should have done that as well?

He diligently assessed my areas of issue and put together a program to begin treating the most inflammatory areas. Over time, the major pain receded and new areas of minor irritation surfaced, he worked with me to alter treatment as necessary. He has been a blessing and saved me from a state of near immobility. I couldn't even stand in one place for more than a few minutes without shaking in pain. I had gained 40 lbs from not being able to walk and was on a daily regiment of Advil. Since beginning treatment I now have no problems walking, standing bothers me only after a long time, I've lost weight and only rarely have to take Advil. He has given me back my health. I called him on an especially excruciating day and lucky for me he had a spot open the very next day for new patients. The first visit took almost two hours. He evaluated my posture, my habits, and lifestyle. He saw that my neck and head protruded far out from my head and was what was causing my muscle pains and discomfort. He showed me how to appropriately set up my work space so that I don't hurt myself further and gave me the rundown on good bags and bad bags for my neck and spine. He also recommended that I get x-rays but was able to do the first adjustment that day. I saw him twice a week for a month or so and then have lessened my time as I have become more "in line." He is a great listener, takes copious notes, and obviously cares about the well being of his patients. I would recommend him to anyone, he has literally changed my life and made it pain free.

I finally managed to find someone that is a) close to my house, b) accepts my insurance, and c) won't make me wait six months for an appointment. Dr. Match's nurse was very understanding of my situation, and managed to get me an appointment within a week of phoning. I arrived early to fill out new patient paperwork, and had to wait maybe five minutes to see the doctor. Before making me don the paper examination outfit, we had a nice chat in his office regarding my medical history, and what pills would work best for me. He seemed genuinely concerned, but wasn't overly chatty. I am ok with this, as I do not go to the doctor for social reasons. While I would have felt extremely comfortable asking him awkward questions about sex/diseases/anything that would start with, "I have this rash...," he's not my best friend. Let's keep it professional. Ladies, the exam room had an actual dressing room. And, Dr. Match was kind enough to warm the speculum under some running water before the exam. Really, it's little things like this that made all the difference. But this man is efficient; my entire exam, while thorough, lasted less than 30 minutes, from blood pressure to payment. I was handed a lovely tote containing two months worth of sample pills and a card that will help keep my birth control costs manageable. The nurse happily made me an appointment for next year, and I was on my merry way, to return only in the case of emergency prior to that date. I was asked numerous times if I had any questions or concerns, and would feel comfortable calling their office in the event that I need extra information. In a nutshell: He rocks. Go visit him, but only on Thursday afternoons in the West End office. Any other time, you'll have to drive to Reston.

I've been his patient since 2001 and wouldn't go anywhere else. He's professional, down-to-earth, and even mildly funny. I highly recommend him! For the reasons cited by the other reviewer, Morgan W., Dr. Match is a great pick for several reasons: 1) he accepts my difficult insurance, 2) his office is in a great location on M Street near my office, and 3) it's easy to make an appointment, although he's only in DC on Thursdays. I've never waited more than 5-10 minutes to be seen. He also treats his patients very well. His staff is also really nice. Dr. Match will take the time to talk to you about options, discuss your health and he will talk in his office with you about any concerns you might have. He's always very professional and genuinely seems to care. He takes the time to treat you like a person. I did learn last year that he is no longer delivering babies, as he is close to retirement and wants to start enjoying more of his free time. If you're looking for an OB, he would happily make a referral for you but probably won't deliver your kid himself. If you're looking for any other GYN care, I couldn't recommend him more highly.
