It's a small time hardware store with limited supplies....like one of many things....It took me awhile to compromise on what I was able to use for what I had to do, but they had it...lol of the four items, 2 were the only ones in stock....The people who work there are super nice and very helpful....This store has a bit of everything from usual hardware, to bicycles (there were two cool ass sun yellow crusiers on sale), lawnmowers, house flags (hpf...), cajun cookware, etc. It's not Lowe's or the Home Depot, but I still admire a local joint and try to buy local when I can. They had some cheap spray paint ;O that I may go pick up another day, but it looked a million years old......give it a look and always try to support local!

I feel lucky that I found Duplantier Framing and got to work with Ms. Bettye. She made a HUGE different in the entire project. I was clueless and overwhelmed by all of the different options. She took the time to really look at the art and came up with the best possible frame. It ended up looking great and was far less stressful than I anticipated. Ms. Bettye was an absolute joy to work with. I am happy that I got the framing done by someone as professional as the artist. Ms. Bettye really knows her stuff!

The customer base is probably 95% professional contractors buying large breaker panels and wiring and outdoor lighting. If you cant find what you need with the other guys, this is should be your next stop.

Before I get to the main body of my review, I want to mention their old location. Located on Camp Street in a very old building, the amount of history in that place was truly amazing. In their case were old police badges, old signs, etc. that they had made throughout the years. I was really sad to see them move from the old spot, but the new place is much more customer friendly. Now in Mid-City, there is ample street and lot parking. Inside the store is clean, modern and efficient. There are many items on display that show the range of things they can create. Everything from vinyl signs to super high end markers for mausoleums. The favorite piece of mine is the old wheelbarrow branded with the Ed Smith logo prominently displayed in the lobby. But looking at cool things is not why I come. I have had many different items made by Ed Smith over the years including name tags, desk name plates, office door plates and most recently self-inking stamps. The quality of their stamps is first rate. They even handled a difficult custom job for me that I picked up today. While not cheap, I have never seen a self- inking stamp so large or so clear. The staff are very helpful and even willing to deal with difficult customers who have unrealistic expectations (Me). I am sure you can go to some national company for these kinds of things, but trust me, Ed Smith is the best at what they do, and they are local.

The prices are varied depending on the artist. That's the good. The awkward is that the shopkeeper treats the store as her home...in a messy way. And that just feels uncomfortable to me. The great or terrible? There are 3 shop cats who have run of the place and they are huge. I enjoyed them, but my Mom would freak out and my Dad would go into respiratory distress by walking in.. In summation, go to find handcrafted Louisiana upscale crafts...but not if you're allergic to cats.
